Playsets (sold separately) unlock new campaigns for the the main Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition game, and successfully completing these will unlock their characters and items for use in the Toy Box mode. Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition features larger open-world environments in both Playset and Toy Box modes which can players can explore on foot or by the new flying movement.
With the sequel, producers have aimed for greater variety in characters especially given Disney Infinity's collaboration with Marvel which began shortly after acquisition of the company by Disney. Characters can gain new abilities in-game using a new freeform skill upgrade tree. The character level cap in Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition has also been raised from 15 to 20.
