In Silent Hill 2, James Sunderland receives a letter from his dead wife asking him to meet her in their "special place" in Silent Hill. James travels to Silent Hill with letter in hand hoping to reunite with his wife (Mary) and along the way he meets a few other people with problems of their own. His own guilt starts to manifest into personal demons as he struggles with a downward spiral of guilt and torture - are they his own guilt or the guilt of the people that he meets? Or perhaps, the town is really haunted. Silent Hill 2 includes the "Born from a Wish" mini-campaign that was included with the Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams released originally on Xbox. Players get to play as Maria and relive her story before she meets up with James. Along with the original voice actors, Silent Hill 2 has an option for an all-new voice track with new voice actors that was not in either the PS2 or Xbox version of the original game.
Silent Hill 3 is a sequel to the story of the original Silent Hill. Heather Mason is suddenly preyed upon by demons that seem to be conjured from her own memories. Heather meets a woman named Claudia who appears to be an insane cult member from Silent Hill that tells Heather that she is to birth a god. Silent Hill 3 has the constant theme of loss of innocence and Heather faces many horrors that she faced in her past. Heather eventually learns her connection to Alessa from the original game and how that impacts her present self.
