THE BAD: 1.Graphics 2.Insanely Frustrating at times
SUMMARY: I tried Pixel Junk: Monsters only because it was available for free as a demo on the PS3 network. In the demo you get two levels. A tutorial level and an 'Easy' level, after which you are asked if you would like to purchase the complete game for $10. I DID!!!!!
Pixek Junk is such a good game I would have to be paid to not recommend it to anyone. You find yourself as a dancing turtle building three main weapon types:
All-Which hit both airborn and walking enemies.
Ground-Which does heavy damage to only walking enemies.
Anti-Air-Which does heavy damage to flying enemies only.
Now as an onslaught of enemies ranging from small slow moving insects both ground and flying to fast moving spiders/bats to tough as nails rock monsters. You must decide which weapons to build first, then where to put the weapon and lastly it is your job to dance your ass off inside your newly built weapon to incease it to its max power making killing enemies easier.
Your reward for killing these monsters is usually gold. Some monsters will drop Gems, and if you collect enough you can go purchase more powerful weapons to help in your cause of destroying the enemy.
Once you think you've got a hang on the game you start moving up in level difficulty. You have the basic easy levels which can be beaten obviously pretty simply. But then you start moving into the Medium and Hard levels. To be honest sometimes it's hard to tell the two apart. Once you reach these levels you start to get stronger enemies with less weaknesses. Plus you will notice that it is more common for enemies to come from all sorts of areas in the later stages. Definite strategy is a must for the later stages, and you will find yourself running from one end of the map to the other.
While this may not sound all that excited it honestly is some of the best fun you will have. With the pressure of trying to get a perfect score by not allowing one single enemy to make it to the base you will find yourself yelling at your tv, pulling out your hair, and yelling 'naughty' words. And yet after letting that one MOTHER *bleep**R get to the base all you want to do is restart and beat the level.
Like I pointed out about in the good section the replay value is wonderful. You learn special skills and get newer weapons as you progress into the game making you want to go back to the levels you couldn't get that perfect on and beat it all over again. Co-op is easily my favorite. Invited my buddies over to have not one but two dancing turtles try to beat the level takes the game to a new level. This game is in no way to easy or way too hard. It's a great mix of learning as you go, and knowing that even though you lost the level you now know what you need to do to beat it.
With all that said this is a PS3 game with some mediocre graphics. It is in HD which makes it looks pretty good, but don't expect to have your jaw dropping anytime soon with this game. On the plus side though the game seems to come with one sick sound track. I find myself humming along to most of the tunes and have found myself searching the net for mp3s so I can turn some songs into my ring tone. If you are like me and you want a perfect on every level you will find it extremely frustrating from time to time when you find yourself playing the same level over and over and over and over again. With each time 1 enemy getting by your defence and getting to the base. But this is just minor.
So seriously people. If you own a PS3 and have yet to buy one of the most downloaded games from the PS3 network you might as well do it now. I mean the pure pressure has got to get to you sooner than later so why wait. Call up a friend of yours, have him/her pitch in $5 and sit back and enjoy countless hours of one of PS3's best games out right now.
