Elder To All RPGs | 4.6 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Elder scrolls is a stunning RPG made by Bethesda. It is set in a fantasy world with numerous races and locations. The world of the elder scrolls is vast, those who have played previous titles in the series such as morrowind will know this. If you are completely new to the elder scrolls however you will find the concept of the huge world it is set in to be daunting. Oblivion offers players a very easy to start character creation. You choose from one of the ten playable races including the magical Bretons, the brutish Orcs and the mysterious Argonians. Instead of having classes like many of your normal RPGs you choose seven major skills from a total of twenty one such as: Blade Wielding, Alchemy, Heavy Armour skill and Marksman. Training your major skills will ultimately gain you levels which will make your attributes stronger.
Your character plays a vital role in the world of Cyrodiil and YOU decide whether to mould them into a lawful hero, a dark assassin or follow one of the many other paths, or if you are not satisfied with just one, follow them all!
There are hundreds of quests in Oblivion, some being fairly simple whereas others can require a lot of thought and consume a healthy amount of time. Apart from questing and training your skills there are dungeons scattered all over Tamriel which you can search in at your leisure.
The plot to Oblivion is quite simple but in some places can cast players into confusion. The emperor of Tamriel is growing old and is being plagued by his mysterious dreams. You are imprisoned in an imperial cell when all of a sudden the Emperor and his guards step into your cell. They are being pursued by assassins and there is a secret door leading from your cell to the escape route. You are told to step aside but the emperor seems to think YOU are the mysterious person in his dreams and tells you to follow him and his guards. Minutes later the assassins do catch up and kill the emperor, but before his death he entrusts your the Dragonfire amulet, a treasure of the emperor and tells you to seek out his secret son and make him emperor and so you begin your epic quest.
There are four main factions in Oblivion, the Fighter's Guild, the Mage's Guild, the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood. Each offers a chain of quests as you progress through the ranks in each faction and in doing so will benefit the character financially and will satisfy the player's need to complete the game fully.
The graphics are pretty good for a next gen console. There may be some dodgy looking NPCs but can forgiven as it was a 2006 release. Every NPC in the game has their own voice and pre set dialogue apart from some guards and shopkeepers.
You will be playing Oblivion for many hours and if it's not enough the Game of The Year edition includes both of the brilliant expansions: Knight of the Nine and Shivering Isles, which include many new quests, dungeons, NPCs and you will be able to explore the strange and mysterious world of the Shivering Isles.THE BAD: THE BAD: There are some very rare bugs to be found in the game such as being stuck between two objects but apart from that it runs quite smoothly. The actual fighting is hacking and slashing mixed with spellcasting which could prove to grow dull but if you have a wide variety of spells and have learned different methods of fighting you won't find it repetitive.
Some NPCs can prove to be a bit of a flaw in the system. There are not enough voice actors to cover the huge cast of NPCs in Oblivion so some improvision is used. One example is when speaking to a beggar, if you ask him one question he could reply in a feeble voice but if you ask him another he could reply in a fierce or noble tone. It doesn't effect the game much but can be a little bit annoying. SUMMARY: SUMMARY: I can easily say Oblivion is a must buy RPG for next gen consoles and for the PC. It will keep players enticed for hours on end and with so many differet paths to follow it is guaranteed to kill any thoughts of boredom.
Be warned though, without a walkthrough the best kept secrets in Oblivion will be kept secret so make sure you check your surroundings thoroughly.

THE GOOD: +1st and 3rd person perspective are amazing. +Excellent graphics, lip-syncing can be seen during conversations. +Great music well produced. +Great replay value, 150+ hours. +Runs smooth, better than the 360. +Very large, 16 square miles.THE BAD: -Enemies level up with you, which can be a pain in the butt. -Leveling-up system could have been fine-tuned. -Not many voice actors more could have been used. -Overwhelming at times. -Voice glitches, mainly beggars. SUMMARY: Plot : There you are, a prisoner lying in his cell for a crime, which bears no cause. It is on this day that Emperor Uriel Septim VII embarks on a journey to escape his assassins from fulfilling their duty and allowing Mehrunes Dagon to cross into the world of Tamriel. This journey inter-wines with your destiny and puts you on a quest to stop The Daedric Prince of Destruction from crossing into the province of Cyrodiil and destroying mankind as you know it!
Features : Travel through the world of Cyrodiil, a lush and vast territory that spans through miles of diverse territory full of caves, cities, forts, landmarks, mines, shrines and townships for you to explore.
Embark on epic quests which can earn you fame or infamy and gold or valuable loot. Quests can be done in almost every city with a few exceptions out in small settlements or daedric shrines.
Join various guilds such as the Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, or even The Dark Brotherhood. Each guild comes with its own benefits which could earn you fame or infamy, not to mention gold or valuable loot as well. You also get access to the living quarters of your guild with every item up for grabs!
Build your own character, choose from over 10 different races either male or female. Each race comes with its own bonuses and disadvantages. You can choose your own skills from a list of supplies classes or by creating your very own, not to mention you get to choose a birth-sign which can give you additional bonuses.
Level up by increasing your majors and fine tuning your minor skills, keeping in mind efficient leveling. Also don’t forget that enemies will level up with you, so don’t expect it to be a breeze.
Learn and cast powerful magic to use on enemies and allies alike, magic plays a big role in Oblivion unless you prefer a more warrior based theme. Note that some magical attacks can also be done from a distance.
Choose different combat styles, do you prefer being a marksman and attacking from a distance? Do you prefer sneaking up and driving the blade of your sword into an unsuspecting marauder? Do you prefer fighting bare-knuckled? Make the choice from a variety of combat styles to suite your fancy.
Interact with NPC’s all over Cyrodiil, you can see actual lip syncing with each person you interact with. Occasional glitches may occur with beggars when you interact with them.
A lot more things can be done throughout the world of Cyrodiil that are a little less minor to be covered, this game is so large with almost endless possibilities…
Gameplay : Simply amazing, there is so much you can do to customize the game to your enjoyment. Score : 5/5
Graphics : Superb, some of the best on the PS3. Score : 5/5
Sound : Excellent with only a few small glitches that occur when you interact with beggars. Score : 4/5
Value : Top notch, well over 150+ hours of gameplay to keep you busy for most of the year. Score : 5/5
Tilt : Solid, 1st and 3rd person perspective are nice but the camera could have been a little better. Score : 3.5/5
Final Score : 22.5/25 or 4.5
~All in all The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is an excellent game that shouldn’t be missed by any PS3 owner. If you haven’t played this game yet then buy it now!
