BackgroundWhen the Horseman of War is punished for triggering the End of Days and bringing about the destruction of Mankind, the eldest of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Death, sets out to prove his brother's innocence. Tasked with restoring humanity and undoing the ruin brought upon by War's errors, he must travel to the ends of Creation in search of the answers -- and the Well of Souls.
Death doesn't fight alone in Darksiders II. On his journey, he is accompanied by his horse, Despair, and a raven guide by the name of Dust. A more agile fighter than his brother War was in Darksiders, Death also comes armed with two scythes as his primary weapons, though he can also equip a variety of secondary weapons as well. Players can create any combination of weapons to fit their preferences, effecting numerous factors in combat like range and attack speed. As Death gains more experience and levels, his stats will increase, along with his overall effectiveness in battle.
Darksiders II also features more traversal options, most notably the ability to wall run. The smoother and more varied navigation further reflects Death's agility, while allowing for more vertical environments and a wider range of puzzles. Over time, Death will acquire his "Death Grip" grappling hook, the "Voidwalker" teleport, and "Soul Splitter" and "Interdiction" for controlling multiple characters.
The plot of Darksiders II runs parallel to that of Darksiders, as War is still on Earth trying to discover the truth of the Apocalypse. Death, in the meantime, must find a way to restore the human race. Along the way, he will discovery a wide-reaching conspiracy that grips both Heaven and Hell. The other two Horsemen, Strife and Fury, do not make an appearance.
