THE GOOD: I really like the whole idea of being sucked into the world of movies and trying to save your girlfriend, as it gives a fresh take on the save the damsel scenario. The cell-shaded graphics were absolutely wonderful. The cross between 3D and 2D really worked for this game. The game is definitely replayable, as you can unlock secret characters and harder modes.
The variety of moves and such you can buy from the 'Power-Up!' menu really made the game fun. The Slow, Zoom and Mach Speed abilities were great for experimenting. Mach speed was pretty cool because you could set items and enemies on fire, which provides a great feeling. Zooming in and spin kicking a hoard of enemies just looks awesome. This allows the otherwise mindless enemy grunts (which themselves come at you in a variety of flavours) to become interesting targets to unleash all your powers on.
It wasn't very hard to get viewtifuls, as chaining together attacks in slow-mo was not only easy, but it made you feel like ...
THE GOOD: The fact that VJ is both a 2d and a 3d at the same time makes it really original and addictive. Its really action packed cuz there are lots of different things to do and lots of enemies that you can fight. There are also different 'modes', where you can make time speed up or slow it down, providing really cool matrix-style gameplay. You can also unlock a couple other characters as well.
THE BAD: Sometimes you can get sick of the way he moves, because he often does really go a bit slow. If you aren't really a good puzzle solver, then you might have a bit of trouble on it. Thats about it for bad things.
SUMMARY: Overall, Viewtiful Joe is really an awesome game. If you dont have it by now, then you really need to go out and get it, since its a really fun and addicting action/adventure game. Its not that short, not that long when it comes to the story, but it will certainly last a while, since some bosses can be a little harder than others, requiring extra time on them. The puzzles...
The ability the make the gameplayer slower or faster
And almost everything else
THE BAD: The graphics suck.
SUMMARY: Difficulty: Hard
I rented this game today and I must say this game is better than I expected it to be. This is the best beatem up game on the Playstation 2 well that is if until I play Viewtiful Joe 2 which could be better. Viewtiful Joe 2 is going to be my next rental. In this game you play as a superhero named Joe to beat up the bad guys. It's pretty cool to do especially in slow or fast motion.
If you like beatem up games then this game shouldn't dissapoint you. I suggest you rent or buy this game as soon as possible. I don't know what else much to say. This game is just awesome and you should try it out for yourself.
THE GOOD: Cel Shaded Graphics Old-Skool 2D gameplay Class moves and set pieces It's got Dante in it
THE BAD: Cel shaded graphics Old-Skool 2D gameplay May be too difficult for some May be too difiicult for most
SUMMARY: Remember when games were games? Give a great big nostalgiac sigh and hark back to the days of feeding ten-pence peices into hulking arcade machines in your local chippy....
Viewtiful Joe harkens back to those grand old days of 2D sprites and ninja-precision gameplay. You control The Joe of the title, sucked into the world of B-movies in search of Silvia, his kidnapped Sweetheart (The game even has an old-skool plotline). He achieves this end, not by stealthing around a military base, or roaming a sandbox-environment, "Living and breathing" cityscape, or even by 40+ hours worth of tedious levelling up and "Character developement", but rather by the simple convention of running and jumping across the screen, left to right, pasting the living daylights out of anything and everythin...
