Terrible control over aircraft, lousy gameplay
SUMMARY:
Don't buy it - rent it MAYBE... Ace Combat for PS2 is soooo much better. I played Topgun for about 15 minutes. I rented Ace Combat twice and then bought it.
Topgun's main problem is aircraft control. No throttle to speak of, you have to ride afterburners and brakes constantly just to avoid crashing or loosing your way. Trying to line up a target while concentrating on that is lame. The feel of the aircraft isn't there either - it's wishy washy, loose, turns like a pig.
They start you on an F-14 and one of the first missions in training is a ground assault which the F-14 doesn't do well with in real life and even worse in this game.
There's a lot of bitches about the interface/menus too. One thing that's really frustrating is if you crash it goes to loading... to show you your replay - then asks if you want to restart - then loading.... I spent half the hour I played it watching loading....
