Star Wars Super Bombad RacingTHE GOOD: Nice graphics and weapon effects, cute characters, nice track design and cool secret characters.
THE BAD: Arena mode, four-player.
SUMMARY: A very good game here, and the first Kart racer on the PS2. It does the job, and is great fun for Star Wars fans and 'normal' people alike. The range of weapons available is impressive, and the nine tracks are well designed and full of shortcuts. The secret characters Darth Vader and Boba Fett are a nice reminder of the 'old' Star Wars films, and have some of the best special weapons.
OK, so what's the catch? It's a good Star Wars game, and it's not on the PC. Something has to go wrong, right? Well, not as much as you might think. The Arena battles are fun, but only for the first two or three times. It gets repetative and boring. The four-player, well, there is nothing wrong with having four players, but the juddery graphics are annoying. The one and two-player graphics are nice, but when the screens become so small, the graphics can't handle it. Ah well...
Another nice little point is the Mirror and Challenge modes. Mirror reverses the tracks to make them that little bit harder (you think your spinning out) and Challenge allows you to race, save your player and the way you won, and race yourself later to get better and progress.
It's an amazing game that shows off the power of your PS2, but with a few little niggles. But then, what game is perfect (and don't say Metal Gear Solid 2: that's one exception)?
