THE GOOD:
Plot, music, characters, voice actors, twists, combat, varity, upgrades, puzzles.

THE BAD:
Even more frustrating cliffhanger!

SUMMARY:
As a fan of the Soul Reaver pair, I highly recommed this to anyone who likes a game that makes you think and second guess along with lots of action, upgrades, beautiful graphics, intense moments and stunningly crafted cutscenes with expert voice overs.

The plot thickens in this sequal that will continue to twist your brain inside out and take back anything bad you may have said about previous characters! Leaving you once again with another mind numbing, controller hurling cliffhanger and new revolutions.

After completeing the game, you are given extra options on the start screen to see bonus material such as concept art and the history of Nosgoth.

**Play this if:**

You like dark, folklore vampire features, enjoy puzzle solving and hack and slash. Like taxing your brain, enjoy games with deep involing plots and have already completed Soul Reaver.

**Don't play this if:**

You haven't played Soul Reaver yet! (pc version cost me £5 so its worth it!), if you didn't enjoy Soul Reaver, or if you have no interest in this type of game, hate puzzles and don't like to think too much. Also not one to get if you hate cutscenes or one off games.

THE GOOD:
FANTASTIC storyline, good graphics, good voice acting (especially Kain's voice), and everything else in the game.

THE BAD:
It was too short, the battles were a bit repetative, not much exploration allowed. But apart from that, it's a GREAT game.

SUMMARY:
This is my SECOND FAVORITE GAME in the whole world.
Basically you play as Raziel, who is a little blue demon-thing.
He was Hell-bent on killing his maker, Kain. But after travelling back in time he realises that there is more to worry about than killing Kain.
Throughout the game Raziel meets lots of interesting "people" and goes to lots of interesting places.
But evil forces are against him and he and Kain must team up to destroy them...

Personally, I loved this game. The game was pretty short and I beat it in a few hours. But the story is so detailed, that you have to go back and play it over and over again. The graphics are good and so is the sound. There are lots of enemies to kill and there are lots of ways to kill them (heh heh, FUN)
And there's an unexpected surprise at the end...
Soul Reaver 2 is definalty a must-buy.

THE GOOD:
Great graphics, sound, voice acting, storyline, and music

THE BAD:
NOTHING!!! lol

SUMMARY:
Even though I have seen better graphics(like in Final Fantasy X) but you still gotta hand it to them, it is better than alot of PS2 game graphics I see out there.
Even the movements of the characters are believeable and fluent.

The sound is amazing, from the sound of Raziel's wings flapping and his feet pounding the ground to the noise of swords and poleaxes colliding.

The voice acting is superb(even though I do laugh at good ol' Mobieus and the Elder their voice acting was great)

The storyline may be a bit confusing at first, with all of its twists and turns. So you might be better off playing Blood Omen(1 and 2) the Soul Reaver before playing Soul Reaver 2/

The music is the best I've seen, it sounds truely Gothic and fits with the game.

THE GOOD:
the storyline can be a little interesting, if you've played other installments from the Legecy of Kain series. otherwise, very confusing and dull.

THE BAD:
everything else: i know thats broad, not very helpful, but thats all i can say

SUMMARY:
I went out on a limb buying this game, and it was a BIG mistake! I'm here to try to rescue others from making the same error.
Soul Reaver 2 is just flat-out awful. The plot, the characters, the music, the graphics, the puzzles, and above all else: the combat system, are terrible.
Eidos was on drugs when they made this piece of crap. And not good drugs that inspire creativity, but bad, bad drugs...That's what the whole Legacy of Kain series is: a horrible drug-induced bore.

THE GOOD:
Raziel wreaks havoc!
The graphics kick ass!
The Soul Reaver
Some cool cutscenes

THE BAD:
The story gets super convoluted - some things become twisted and Kain is a ?????good guy????? huh??? WTF???
Short, but not without some confusion
A little on the unfun side

SUMMARY:
If you've played and loved the original Soul Reaver on PS One, you will like this game. You may not be as enamored with it, though, as you were with the original. This game feels as if it were hastily thrown together, and the story line seems as if they got it from a choose your own adventure book.

You are Raziel, and apart from some really cool flashbacks to you as a Serafan knight, you are the good guy in this quest. You were murdered by Kain when you where a vampire, before that you were a knight who killed vampires, and you want to avenge yourself on Kain and are now being thrown about through time and space by a time bender named Moebius. Seem confusing, don't worry - it is. Oh and did I mention that you have a sword molded to your wrist, that comes in handy for sucking souls. Seems nice, doesn't it - good thing dead guys don't masturbate, though.

The whole game seems really epic from the outset, as you cross time streams, get jacked up in the process, and overall fight some nasty interstellar/dimensional demons. Plus you have to avoid the machinations of Kain and Moebius - the true master of evil, or wait did I get those confused, perhaps it is the other way around. Well, I've beaten the damn thing and I am still a little confused, you will be too, unless you wish to sit through it again, which in this case you probably won't.

The game just isn't its predecessor, it doesn't have the grip or the awe that the first game did. The graphics are very much improved upon, and there are some cool cathedral scenes, but then you get to some real gloom, that continues on and on and on and on and on and on. Plus, I got lost for two hours and wandered not knowing where I was supposed to go. I still ended up beating the game in like 10-11 hours which means it is very short. It is also pretty easy, except for the confusing parts.

The part that really sucks, if you'll pardon the pun, is the soul sucker itself - the reaver. Your reaver gets new powers in this game, much like Raziel did in the first game. Those were cool, though. These are not. You have to go through numerous large - did I say LARGE side quests to light the different soul fonts. Then you can travel through time, etc, etc.. But this time around your sword doesn't disappear like in the first game - it just sucks your life away. I find it very odd that a game can change its very motivation. Seems weird to me, and it doesn't detract that much, but it makes the reaver less cool than it was in the first game. And, gimme a break - the game is called soul reaver, not limited power soul reaver - gas up now.

This game is probably just a weekend rental, unless you feel you must have it. I won't part with mine, because I love the first one. However, I am not stupid enough to buy Kain's second one. If that story continues, oh well; I guess I'll have to miss it and hope the next one is a heck of a lot better.

THE GOOD:
Graphics
Gameplay
Combat System
Story

THE BAD:
The game was a bit slow, so people with low patience wouldn't last long.

SUMMARY:
This game was the best game I'd played for a long while, Everything about it was spectacular. The sequals aren't usualy as good as the first games in terms of story but Sould Reaver 2 was! Not to mention the great graphics and audio. The combat system seemed a bit boring at first but with a little practise, like most things it gets better! Not much else to say realy, if you like long complex and insome cases confusing games then this is the game for you. If you dont have patience or want an all action game then get Devil May Cry!

PS2  Great Sequel 4.0

General/Summary: "History abhors a paradox," so says Soul Reaver 2. Indeed, this game is suffused with history throughout, as you the gamer take on the role of Raziel, and are propelled through cycles of time in the epic mythological story of the world of Nosgoth. While Soul Reaver 1 was a dark, gritty, undead fantasy adventure, SR2 feels much more medieval and Biblical in nature. The Sarafan Stronghold looks like a medieval Gothic cathedral lifted right out of 13th century France, while the ruins of the Darkness Forge reminded me of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and the setting of the Light Forge reminded me of ancient Greece with its soaring white marble columns, and the Air Forge ruins were reminiscent of a cross between ancient Mexico and the civilization of Egypt. I was absolutely blown away by how realistic some of the settings were. It was like traveling back in time and unearthing ancient secrets of lost civilizations. Needless to say, for a history buff like me, this game was extremely fun to play.

There is a marvelous continuity between the first game and the sequel. All of the voice actors are back, and their dialogue simply has no peer in the world of video games. This is voice talent of the highest order, and it shows through time and time again during the game. Some people were put off by the excessively rhetorical diatribes in the script, but to me I thought it was so well done, that I couldn't get enough of it. This is the best story I've ever encountered in a video game. Soul Reaver 1 was much the same, the only difference was that there wasn't as much dialogue as there is in the sequel. The character of Raziel is fleshed out in great detail, as we see him in various emotional states while interacting with the other characters. Raziel was much more one-dimensional in the original game - he came across as dark and brooding, and very solemn while he hunted down and destroyed his renegade brethren. In SR2 we learn a great deal more about the character of Raziel and his destiny in the world of Nosgoth.

Soul Reaver 2 picks up right where the first game ended, with that horribly short and abrupt cliffhanger. You can immediately notice the difference between the two games - SR2 has far better graphics, more wide open spaces, better special effects, and much better sound. If I had to sum this game up in one word, it would be "epic." Better than any other game out there, this game gives you a sense of vast, epic proportions, as the very cosmos at times seems to get involved in the story. You feel like you're part of something that literally transcends the world of Nosgoth itself. The epic story, the huge, wide open spaces of the ruins, the towering architecture, just the colossal scope of things, gives this game a unique feel. I haven't seen too many games that tackle the philosophies of history, free-will, predestination, the nature of evil, and resurrection after death, yet SR2 covers them all, and then some. Its easy to get lost in the maze of details, but the developers included an extremely useful timeline that charts the complete events of Nosgoth, starting from Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, all the way up to the present. If you get lost in the story, you can refer to the timeline to sort things out, or go back to the Dark Chronicle, a copy of all the dialogue in the game. This is a quality game through and through, and certainly worthy of a purchase. Its one of the best games of the year.
Gameplay: The gameplay is very good, however if there was one weakness, it would be the combat system. The combat system is essentially unchanged from the first game, except that its a little more detailed and offers more moves. This was an area of concern for many gamers who played the demo this past summer, and while it has been improved in the final version, it still doesn't quite feel right. The clanging of swords sounds pretty tepid, and some of the attacks feel extremely weak. However, combat isn't one of the hallmarks of this series, so I can overlook the shortcomings there. In the second version, Raziel has all of the abilities that he gained in the first game. You can climb walls, swim, phase through gates, and call up the Reaver at will. There are no additional abilities to be gained in the sequel, this time around you gain various Reaver Elements that help you progress through the story. The gameplay is fairly smooth, and is easy to learn.

Graphics: This is one of the strong points of this game, as the graphics are simply gorgeous. Raziel looks much more detailed, and the environments are just superb. This game is really a work of art, as the bonus materials in the game attest. You can see how this all starts out in the imagination of an artist, and then they use computers to translate the artwork into video game images. All of the settings are extremely convincing and accurate, and nothing seems out of place. The world of Nosgoth has an inherent logic to it, and the various areas fit together like the pieces of a puzzle, despite the fact that you're traveling through time. Everything from the city of Uschtenheim, to the Sarafan Stronghold, to the floating, magical motes of light in the Swamp, are exceuted to perfection. They look like their real life counterparts, and the quality is apparent from the outset.

Sound: As I mentioned above, the sound in the game is phenomenal. The sound effects are top-notch, and they change with the settings. There's nothing to complain about here, as the sound is simply outstanding. Overall, this game is amazing. While the ending may again leave you shaking your head, I only hope that it leadfs to another installment of Soul Reaver. The series has distinguished itself with a deep and complex story, beautiful graphics, excellent voice acting, and an engrossing experience. Do yourself a favor and don't let this game pass you by - it stands out as a precious jewel in the world of video game.
