Excuse the borderline blasphemous MLK allusion, but liberty truly echoes through every aspect of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. From the fundamental mechanics to the lesser influential aesthetics, an unprecedented amount of unbridled control is placed in the hands of the player.

While not the most important facet managed by the gamer, one of the most notable and interesting is the branching, nonlinear storyline. It starts with a bang. A really big bang known as Armageddon, courtesy of a cult who has deemed our conception of reality outdated. Now, you're smack in the middle of a realm inhabited by demons and deities, forming factions out to mold the husk of the dead world into a new one shaped by their philosophy. Normally, when a game starts with such a traumatic event, the still sane survivors band together to figure out what has happened and what they can do about it. However, the exact opposite happens in Nocturne. Your classmates leave you and begin their own campaigns to...

well,I assume you're reading this review because you didn't play any SMT/Persona/Majin Tensei games before.if you did..I suppose you already finished this game.what?you played previous games and still didn't buy this one?go and get it,no questions.

STORYLINE absolutely not like any typical story.it is itself absolutely not like ANY other rpg,and besides,it proceeds absolutely unusual.modern Tokyo,one dude performs the "conception" aka the end of the world.you,a teenager is a sorta "chosen one".besides you and a couple of other teenagers noone survives.and now,you have to choose your future-the world that you wish to create.you will have several variants-from simple human ideas,to an idea of absolutely new world-World of Demons.
the story has plenty of great,absolutely non-cliche sense.rather mature and complicated.you will be in a very cool,dark atmosphere throughout the whole game.

GAMEplay you won't have a usual party of characters here.it will instead...

SUMMARY:
(markup doesn't seem to work for these user reviews... originally this looked nice and pretty, but whatever)

Final Fantasy VII (Squaresoft) vs. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (Atlus)

Blasphemy? PerhapsÂ… but then again, maybe the dominion of Final Fantasy has finally come to an end. SMT, while not well known in North America, is almost as popular as Square's crown jewel over in Japan. In any case, I think this comparison is warranted. Incidentally, I realize FFVII was made almost eight years ago and I am taking that in account for this review. I realize that an early PSX title can't compare to a late PS2 title in terms of graphics and soundÂ… that will all be factored in. Winning a category gives one point to the given title; in the event of a draw, both titles receive a point.

For quick reference:
FF = Final Fantasy (generally)
FFVII = Final Fantasy VII specifically
SMT or...
