THE GOOD:
Around 100 ships, Graphics, Replay Value

THE BAD:
Simple Levels, Terrible Mini-game, Hard to unlock

SUMMARY:
Ahh R-Type brings back memories, I remember the old days of Super R-Type on the SNES, Good times...

R-Type final is the final game in the series, for those who are in the dark; R-Type has you piloting a spacecraft in the future, Its a sidescrolling shooter and along the way you pick up powerups and a machine thing to latch onto your ship for better attacks. In this game you can pick your ship and we've got a big selection for it too! 100 ships. You are allowed to change what color the ship is, missiles or bombs, and a machine partner. You fly through 6 levels and fight a boss on each one. The shoots from your ship are nice looking and amazing, Its fun to pick different ships to see all the firepower effects.

The bad part however is the levels are easy and short, There is a terrible mini game where you just...

THE GOOD:
there are many good points about R-Type Final.
for instance the fact that there are over a 100 ships to unlock in this game each one totally different you can even customise these ships (to a point) so that it meets your preferance. the things you can change are the colors some ships may have different weapondry.
there are many levels to complete in this massive game some levels are hard to get to though because of certain situations or a certain ship you may have to use.
the graphics in this game are beautifully desingned and will impress. the explosions are amazing. there are also many other unlockables to unlock which will keep you busy for a very long time especially with all the different difficulty levels!!!

THE BAD:
there are some problems with this game. the difficulty levels at the start are fine... but when you get to the harder difficultys you may encounter some problems trying to complete the game fully and get all the ships....

THE GOOD:
Huge variety of ships, classic R-Type gameplay

THE BAD:
Some excessive slowdown, interface problems

SUMMARY:
if you've played an R-Type shooter before, from the 15-year-old original arcade game right down to the recent PS1 R-Type Delta, you know what you're getting here. Final doesn't mess with the formula, it celebrates it:the force pod you can attach to your shit for extra defense or fire off to attack on its own, the different levels of three laser power-ups, the gigantic pattern-based bosses, even the "big-ship stage" where you spend a whole level attacking different parts of one gigantic craft. All that under a fresh coat of pain is fine with me; shooters have hardly improved upon the R-Type template in the last decade.
What Final does add is some variety. Along with five difficulty levels, the different characteristics of the 100 ships you can unlock--each with its own power-up effects, missiles, and other options to...

THE GOOD:
side scrolling, great sound

THE BAD:
side scrolling, no online capability

SUMMARY:
I really liked this game. The sound is excellent. The explosions are brilliant. Enemies are diverse (you collect data on them), control is good. 99 ships to collect! Finally somebody realized that sidescrollers are still fun! This game reminds me of gradius on nintendo without the mind-warping framerate bog and a thousand times better sound and graphics! If you liked those old sidescrolling shooters you should get this. I can't rate the vs mode as I haven't played it yet but, it does look interesting. I don't know why there are no online features though. At this point, just about every game should have some online features. Did I mention how much fun it is? The stages feature multiple variations that can be accessed. I liked the wide variety of fightercraft and the many weapon options. Even weapon modes are customizable and i love the classic...
