RE: Outbreak, First-ever multiplayer online RE game | 4.5 0 comments |
by mharbenedict34 from Quezon, , Philippines | Jun 20, 2005 |
THE GOOD: You could play multiplayer in this RE game while using online. They are 8 new characters with their own styles and techniques of survival. You can also be a zombie on online to kill your own teammates. You have a large arsenal from melee weapons to heart-pumping guns like iron pipe, scrub brush, submachine gun, rocket launcher and more. You also have 2 comrades (offline), which will help you throughout the game.THE BAD: You need online to play with more than one player. I guess, RE Outbreak would be better if they allow 2 players or multiplayer without using online and, the zombie thing is available in offline. The loading is poor especially if you’re going through from one room/area to another.
You’re teammates are dumb in offline, but not in online, of course. SUMMARY: All new 8 characters, including a reporter, security guard, a subway employee, etc. You can also use several NPC (Non-Playable Characters) in the game to add the thrill and greatness in the game. There are also some new kinds of monsters to fight with like Thanatos and Leechman.
Overall, I rate 4.5/5.

Resident Evil: City of Bad Communication | 2.5 0 comments |
by DarkKnight from Blue Springs, MO, USA | Jan 31, 2005 |
THE GOOD: Takes place during Re 2/Re 3, Online, Zombies, 5 scenarios, Zombie mode.THE BAD: Same Tank controls, No decaps, 5 minute Zombie, Bad communication. SUMMARY: I decided to do my review of Outbreak just because I wanted to do so for a long while... so here it is.
Resident Evil: Outbreak (Known as Outbreak from here on) Takes place in Raccoon City, remember it? It starts off right when the virus infection was in the early days and there were many survivors around. You are able to choose from eight ordinary civilians and fight for your lives, Not that old stuff like taking down Umbrella. You can pick from a fellow RPD cop who is having a bad day, a big security guard who looks very much like Carl Winslow, a Plumber who was probably some kind of murderer, and many more. The first scenario takes place in J's Bar where the characters get attacked by zombies that surround the bar. From there you branch off into different scenarios such as Birkin's Lab from Re 2 or the Hospital from Re 3. But the biggest reason to buy this game is because of Online play, yes online play. For once you and three others must work together to survive or every man for himself to make sure no one will turn into a zombie and kill your ass. During the entire game you have an infection meter, remember these are ordinary people so they are infected. The infection will rise always but at a slow rate, It increases when your character gains damage and is hit to the ground. Luckly you can slow it by using herbs and new items called pills. However once it reaches 100%, your character will turn into one of the many zombies in the city.
Lets get this bad stuff underway. This is Resident Evil so that means your character move like a tank. This Resident Evil also took out Zombie Decaps when using the shotgun or magnum which is a bummer. The zombie mode is awesome but only being able to use it for 5 minutes with limited control was a bad move. And the communication in the game is very limited so its hard to tell your teammates to go somewhere when all your character says is "Go" "Over there!" "Hi!" Also the scenarios are short, average of 30 minutes if you are slow. And playing the same ones over and over make them boring since everyone knows the puzzles and runs laps around you.
There is also Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 coming soon... Expect my review of it when it hits stores. |

THE GOOD: Well, the graphics are ok, but they don't rank anything near Halo 2, but I still like it a fair bit, I mean it does take a while to creat a game of this calibure!THE BAD: Frustrating, the zombies, and the leech thingy. You can't kill that thing with any of your basic weapons, only that heat room thingy, and the zombies are hard to kill, it takes 5-8 shots with the handgun.
Also, I found that the last level is a little over the top with the zombies, their are soo many!
I really hate that part, GRRRRRR! SUMMARY: Well, the graphics are ok, but they don't rank anything near Halo 2, but I still like it a fair bit, I mean it does take a while to creat a game of this calibure!

A good story-line in the series, but not the best... | 4.4 0 comments |
by CloudStrife7709 from greeley, PA, U.S.A. | Dec 10, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Gameplay, Graphics, Music, Sounds, 2 partners in single player mode, on-line with 4 players in a server, story-line, 8 playable characters Kevin, Mark, David, Jim, George, Cindy, Alyssa, Yoko, hidden characters, costumes, sounds, BGM, pictures, and videos to buy.THE BAD: Frustrating of the zombies, and the leech man. You can't kill the leech man with your weapon only that heat room thingy, and the zombies are hard to kill, it takes 5-8 shots with the handgun, 2-5 with the shotgun. weird huh? SUMMARY: This game is great, ppl should buy this game it rocks. Sad, because no voice headphone like the Xbox. This game should be like about 30 or 40 bucks to buy. I can't wait for Outbreak File 2. This game makes a good story-line in raccoon city. |

The zombies and other kinds of creepy creatures like Leech man ( THE MOST ANNOYING ENEMIES ON EARTH!!).....................THE BAD: The Leech man, the Leeches, All of the stages are very hard solve the puzzle except the stage Outbreak scenario. The most annoying character is Jim. ( ~_~ why cant he keep his mouth shut and calm down like David) but david he's a very quiet character. but i must say this must have cooperative teams (you know... i player and 2 players or 3 and 4 players WE MUST WORKED TOGETHER!!!!) "I Can't Open The Door!" | 4.2 0 comments |
by SerialZero from Pumpkin Falls, AZ, United States | May 15, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Unlockable Bonuses, Multiple Player Characters, Partner Feature, Challenging Gameplay, Amazing FMV Cut Scenes, Nostalgia Value.THE BAD: Slow Loading Time, Strange Glitches. SUMMARY: Capcom once again proves that they can blow us out of the water with the Survival Horror genre. Outbreak is a credit to the series, boasting new features never before seen.
The FMV's are asbolutely beautiful, making you feel like you're playing "Resident Evil: The Movie: The Game".
Outbreak takes place back in Raccoon City sometime prior to Claire and Leon's romp from Resident Evil 2. There are two scenarios where you can completely re-explore previous RE locations, bringing a pleasing sense of nostalgia to the experience. Players will find themselves exclaiming, "Holy crap! I know where I am! This is so cool!"
The partner feature is a new twist, having two AI characters or up to three Online teammates makes for a much more interesting run through the game. This, combined with the real-time inventory selection process makes it that much more true to real life.
The array of selectable characters and unlockable secrets is astounding. Players won't find themselves getting bored anytime soon, despite the limited number of playable scenarios.
The only downfall to this game is the slow loading times in between cut scenes, and the occasional glitches related to specific characters. All in all this game is excellent, and belongs in any hardcore Survival Horror fan's game library. |

A great addition to the resident evil saga | 4.5 0 comments |

Resident Evil Outbreak is the first online RE title capcom has released. It is a very enjoyable game but it is not as impressive as it should have been. When I think of an online RE title I see a huge open ended city, massively multi player scenarios, and a huge in-depth story-line. Yet what we got was a game with linear scenarios, 4-players, and a very little story. Don't get me wrong I love RE Outbreak just like I love the rest of the past RE titles I just expected more. Anyway the good parts of this game are strong gameplay elements, a ton of unlockable content, unique and innovative characters. RE outbreak has amazing graphics and is all around a fun experience. So go buy this game, just don't expect an epic story.
If you are an RE fan then you will love it regardless. |

They fixed the controls! Huzzah! | 4.7 0 comments |
by Rrogjenks from , , | May 2, 2004 |
Well, here it is-- the one we've all been waiting for: Resident Evil has finally gone online! Is it worth the hype it's recieved, or is this Resident Evil merely good enough to keep ya busy until 4? Read on to find out...
GRAPHICS (10/10) This game is undoubtedly one of the most goregeous-looking on any console in the history of the world. Character models and animations are realistic, zombies are terrifically detailed, and the levels are astounding.
SOUND (10/10) Moaning zombies, creaking floorboards, and firing shotguns (among other things) add a truly terrifying aspect to this game. Couple that with the equally scary musical score-- the BGM for the opening is cinema-worthy-- and you have with you a wonderful score for the Sound department.
CONTROLS (8/10) The most annoying complaint I recieve when I show friends Resident Evil games is, "The controls are so wierd! Moving my character is like driving a boat!" Well, I can now confidently say that the movement issue has been fixed. Using the left analog stick, whichever character you choose can now be moved in the direction you push (as opposed to the traditional up = forward, down = backward, left/right =turn in said directions scheme, although, if you play with the d-pad, that control style is still avalible).
ONLINE PLAYABILITY (7.5/10) If you have read any of the other reviews, you have probably seen a lot of complaints about the communication system Capcom set up for the game. Although, at times, not being able to say "Okay, now, you go that way, and I'll go this way, and then we'll meet on the roof!" can be a bit annoying, the pre-set system works very well. Using the right analog stick, you can bark out commands such as, "Go [in the direction I'm pointing!" or "Follow me!" or, my favorite, "Help!" Pushing the [square] button allows you to begin a causal conversation with one of your survival-horror partners ("Find anything yet?" "Nope, nothing.") If you ask me, I think that the communication system makes the game scarier. When playing through a survival-horror game such as Outbreak, the point is to become so immersed in the situation that the game becomes your own world, which is much harder to do when someone is shouting (via headset) "Dude! You suck, you fag Nazi pedo noob!" The pre-set system immediately eliminates this problem.
REPLAY VALUE (8/10) Despite the fact that there are only 5, easily-memorizable, (about) 1 hour missions to go around, the replay value is surprisingly high with this title. After each mission, points are earned, which can be used to buy things with a Mortal Kombat: Trilogy-like store system. Among the purchasable items are alternate costumes, music, and pictures. Naturally, the higher the difficulty, the more points earned. All in all, a good system.
CLOSING REMARKS... Resident Evil: Outbreak is definately worth the hype in every way imaginable. This is one game that'll keep you busy for days on end-- just don't forget to eat, sleep, and pay the fee-- oh, wait: there is no fee! The only fee you'll be paying is to your Internet Service Provider (i.e.: AOL).
Oh, and don't get too scared. |

THE GOOD: Graphics, sound, replay value, spanning RE 1-3, unique new characters, inclusion of AI or other team members while online, melee weapons, Physical interations and fighting (ie ducking, playing dead, shoulder rush, kick, etc.)THE BAD: LOADING TIMES!!! Camera angles at times, controls need to be tweaked a bit SUMMARY: The game everyone has been talking about is finally out!! I've been waiting a long time and I said many moons ago this would be the next logical step. I'm good!
The gameplay is awesome, bringing new twists and turns to the RE saga. The inclusion of character AI while alone and team members while online is a great new addition but it can become a pain. The character AI isn't the smartest crayon in the box constantly running into zombies and enemies as I'm chuggin along. Saving them becomes a pain especially in the middle of a good fight.
8 characters to choose from each with their own unique abilities is great. It adds a whole lot more to the game while adding in new things like being able to buy the videos for points as well as other costumes for characters making the game unique again. Adding new skins was one smart addition.
The only problem I've come across is the loading times. Once you leave one room into another it takes a bit to load. It's a huge pain!! Using the HDD is supposed to help this out but it's still annoying noe the less.
The controls aren't bad but you do run into problems once in a while. I found the worst part is coming out of a door. Sometimes you'll hit the direction you want but your character edges back towards the room again. In pops up the loading times again. almost every door you walk into brings a loading time.
Camera angles aren't as bad as before, now taking a better view of the playing area and leaving you to see a bit more. They can block what you need to see sometimes though.
The inclusion of all new enemies and tactics is a real plus. Enemies like the Leechman is new and looks good. It's a brave new twist in the RE world. At the same times you see some of the older characters you've seen throughout the games.
This game is definately worth the price tag, RE fans will love it. The online play isn't bad but new people watch out, some people aren't so friendly. And rememeber when your online to skip the cinematics during online play if you host the room! |
