Commandos 2: Men of Courage

Commandos 2 is an excellent game that made the conversion to the PS2 really well.
You control a group of elite commandos that are sent into dangerous territory to defeat the nazis and destroy any plans they have.
Gameplay is top notch, while some might think it's too hard, fans of the series might find it too easy, more on that in a minute.
Missions are wonderfully created and merge well into the gameplay. You control the Green Beret mostly, he's an expert with weapons and hand to hand combat. Other commandos are the Sniper, Snapper, Spy, Thief, Seductress, Diver and Driver. Every single one of them has their own unique abilities. For example the Snapper is used to place explosives while the Spy can be dressed in a german uniform and walk around freely.
The graphics are the best you can get for such a game, as the ability to zoom in on the map does give pixelated results, however zooming in is hardly ever maxed.

SUMMARY:
This game finally came out on the PS2 and is a great game for a good collection. Commandos 2: Men of Courage (C2:MOC), is the second in the series and has not let it down, through very fun, but hard stratgic gameplay, and how the game is so well put together.

C2:MOC is set in war time where you are a commander of an elite squad who is sent to stop the threat that is causing the war. Your commander is a Berre who is very skilled in what he does, you also get to be other people who know how to work with vehicles, defuse bombs, plant bombs, decode messages, disguise as an enemy soldier, and many things to help you along your way.

This is a very hard game that will really make you think, instead of the usual games where...

THE GOOD:
Graphics, Gameplay, Sound, Everything, ...

THE BAD:
Steep Learning Curve, Sort-of Difficult

SUMMARY:
Commandos 2: Men of Courage is the BEST strategy game for the PlayStation 2. Period. Play this game or you're really missing out on some of the BEST graphics/engine ever on a console. The gameplay is very addicting, and the tactics required to complete a mission will cause you to go crazy--in a good way!--when you complete just ONE level! You can set traps, tripwire, dig holes (trap), set mines, shoot bazookas, handguns, machineguns, drive tanks, trucks, boats seduce enemies with the ladys (not joking), feed piranhas, spear sharks, and then you can go and...calm down. The depth of this game is simply unbelievable, and the attention to detail is unmatched. The only way to top this games' strategy and coolness is to play Commandos 3 on the PC (hopefully C4 will be on the PS2--please Pyro?). This game is...

THE GOOD:
Range of options. You have 9 commandos each with special skills, and then you can use them as a team, and just sooo many ways to take out nazi grunts.

THE BAD:
maybe, just maybe, the pauses between interior and exterior

SUMMARY:
This game is a thinking players dream. The incredible complexity of the levels, and the myriad of ways to complete each is nothing short of awesome. The bonus missions are fun, and get you wanting to re do levels to find all the bonus pictures.

This game rocks.

THE GOOD:
The length of the game! One mission alone took over six hours. Then there are the multiple ways to achieve each mission. For instance, when entering a building do you sneak through door and hope not to be seen? Do you put a Nazi uniform on and stride in? Why not climb up the outside, through a window, and lower a rope so the rest of your buddies can join you? This game can be played stealthly or go in blasting.

THE BAD:
There are a few flaws though. There are pauses when spinning the area and entering/exiting buildings. Also the graphics can become a little indistinct when fully zoomed in. This is nothing to do with the game design but more to do with the limitations of the PS2 memory. Another minor flaw would be the speaking. Not only are the accents appallingly cliched but each commando only has a few word each and you'll get tired of them being repeated.

SUMMARY:
I was looking forward to this...

THE GOOD:
The graphics, the many many ways to go about killing and getting around Germans, the gameplay, 360 degree camera views

THE BAD:
the short pauses when you walk in and out of buildings or change camera views, the occasional lag when lots of stuff happens (but what can you do...besides its not big of a deal)

SUMMARY:
First of all, this game is tough. When you first start a mission, you really dont know where to begin or how to go about doing it....so if you dont like having to wait and think for long periods of time, then this game isnt for you....but if you like challenges that require you to actually use your brain, then this game is perfect.
I think one of the best parts of this game is the fact that you have, what seems to be a never ending way to go about things. I mean, theres a German standing there...if you have the green baret then you can go up to him and slit his throat, or you can knock him...

THE GOOD:
Strategic gaming at it's best. Fast paced at times but not overwhelming. Being able to save anywhere, you will need it and it does not spoil the flow of the game.

THE BAD:
Controls took a bit of getting used to, zoom in helps a little but the graphics could have been a bit nicer closer up.

SUMMARY:
Some of the mission objectives make my heart sink. "You want me to go where? And do what?!?" But if you enjoy a hard challenge then this is for you.

It does feel really good when a plan comes together.
