Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 Review by MLD | 4.0 0 comments |

I enjoyed NFS: Hot Pursuit for the Playstation when it came out. And when I heard about a sequel I was eager to play it. And it didn't disappoint me, except for the computer's way of racing. Which really isn't too bad until you get to the last levels of the game. I would of liked NFS: Underground, except for the street racing cars that are in the game turn me off. I didn't like the movie 'Fast and the Furious' and Underground has those types of cars in it. I'm glad that Hot Pursuit 2 has the older style race cars and some of the newer stylish cars as well. Presentation This game hits high and low spots for enjoyment. While some levels are perfect in length to complete, others are long. Some require you to do five, six, or more races before completing the level. The songs are okay to listen to, but soon you will either mute your TV, or turn up the engine noise way up, or just play a CD from your collection. Being able to be the cop and chase down speeders is great fun. This part of the game never gets boring to me. While driving you will have to deal with traffic, which is a challenge. Some of the cars like to drive off road, or just park in the road. The game has plenty of challenge to it, but some of the challenge is borderline cheating. The computer sure likes to win and does whatever it takes to do it. So when you beat the computer, you feel like a major accomplishment has been done. And it has. 10/10 Graphics The detail given to the cars in this game are wonderful to look at. The way the light reflects off the metal, the damage that is shown when you hit something. All of it makes it a sight to witness while driving. And the levels themselves are beautiful as well. The sunlight hitting your windshield at different angles, the waterfalls, sand blowing in the wind. It has a very realistic feel to the environments. 10/10 Sound There should have been more choices for songs in the game. The songs that are on the game become boring very quickly. And the songs are not even that cool. I think that the first NFS: Hot Pursuit had better music to listen to. But the background sounds and car sound effects are great to listen to while racing. 9/10 Gameplay This game is a great two-player adventure. Since a human can't cheat as badly as the computer. I messed around and had the computer crash and was behind me by about twelve seconds. But that didn't last long. The car was on my tail within half a lap. And I did this on a track that I have memorized front and back so I was driving perfectly. But let's say that I mess up against the computer and fall behind by say five seconds. It will take me about two laps to catch up with the computer car. Now this is cheating plain and simple. If I play against a human and make a mistake I can catch up with him/her in no time. Plus I can have a good-sized lead against a human player as well. I'm pretty good at driving games but since the computer isn't a challenge, (more like a cheater); the game gets me upset quite a bit. 8/10 Lasting Appeal There are plenty of levels to play to unlock cars and tracks (Over 60) and tons of cars to choose from. But the computer sure loves to cheat. And because of this reason I can only give this game an eight. If the computer couldn't always come back from any time deficit then I'd give it a nine. 8/10

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 | 3.4 0 comments |
by Ultimate Gogeta from Akatsuki HQ, , | Jan 14, 2004 |
THE GOOD: The great graphics, the hot cars you get to race as, the challenging opponents, a great selection race tracks to choose from and to unlock, reasonable price, that's probably about it.THE BAD: Back-up cops tend to "warp" ahead when falling behind, and cops get real hard to lose. SUMMARY: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2's a great game to play. With great rock tunes to get you pedalling to the medal, and the hottest cars on the globe the race in, this is almost a dream come true. The grpahics have improved drastically, everything looks stunningly real.
The opponents put up more of a fight, and can really kick your ass if you don't watch yourself. You also gotta watch your back since there are cops in this game.
The game is pretty much G so I don't see any hesitance to buy the game. Just be careful when your temper flares if you lose a race. The effort may be hard but worth it.
The game will take a trip to the boring games lsitw hen you complete it, and will jut have you wait for the next Need For Speed game.
Overall I recommend you give it a shot. One and a half thumbs up.

THE GOOD: Some good graphics and playabilityTHE BAD: Too many menus, not enough cars,no garage, very few tracks,no oval or straight track,no track designer, police in Mediterranean sound like from Dukes of Hazzard, some video bugs. SUMMARY: Not much else to say, EA could have some great games if they would just start listening to us who buy and use them. I for one have bought my last EA racing game till I see some long overdue improvements. |

THE GOOD: . Great selection of cars . Great tracks . Good graphics . Good multiplayer . A lot to unlock . Amazing handlingTHE BAD: . Maybe not enough cars . erm........ SUMMARY: Some people say this game is well behind Gran Turismo 3. GT3 is a fantastic game, which is difficult to beat, but NFS2 does! The handling of the cars are inch-perfect, with amazing slides around corners. Damaging your car can affect the handling though, and that can be annoying when your are trying to get away from a gang of cops, as they drop bombs from helicopters, and put spike-stripes down. You can get booked, and if you get caught 3 times by the police, you get 'busted', and you have to retire from the race! The graphics are pretty good, clean, but a bit...chuggy. The cars look fantastic. And the different cars are brilliant, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, Dodge and other supercars, what more could you want. And you can change the colour of most of them! Also (despite me not liking it) the music is great, and for rock fans this is a must. This game has almost everything you want, and i thouraly recommend this game. It's a must. |

THE GOOD: Excellent Graphics, Interesting racing physics, very good sound, incredibly challenge.THE BAD: Incredibly challenge, to the point that made you sweat. SUMMARY: I didn't buy this game when it came out because I found it to challenging. I have to say that I play video games for relaxation, not because I have a lack of challenges in my life. Most of the races on this game are to the point of losing control of what you are doing keeping you on the edge. And it do keep me on the edge of liking it or not like it.
Other than that this game is incredible on the sounds and feel of true extreme sport cars (The Ferraris do sound like music to my ears!)
I think that for $50.00 is too annoying and hard to swallow, but at $19.99 is a most have if you are serious about Racing video games.

THE GOOD: Racing is fun, the courses are good, the graphics are nice, and good cars.THE BAD: The songs that play on the radio... To many curves....the side walls... SUMMARY: This is really the only racing game that I have ever liked,, I love this game because of the fast pace racing, the course were nice and plotted, I liked the graphics and the slow motion scene is a good feature. And the choices of cars are good but I think that 49 cars aren't all that much, I was hoping to have around 100 and something... But the bad things on it, after listening to all the songs over and over..it gets really annoying..:laughs:, plus to many curves...I wish they would have put more stairt aways....And another pain in the neck is the side walls...when going around the curves the walls can hurt your speed.... |

THE GOOD: - The graphics are the best thing ever. - The game play is wonderful. - Lots of cool cars to choose from and now they have loots of Poilice Cars also. - THE BAD: - There is nothing about the game. SUMMARY: This game is one of the best racing games that I have ever played. There are lots of levels and they are big. Also there are lots of little secret passage ways in the levels. The graphics are great. Every thing is very detailed. There are lots of cool exotic cars and fast police cars to choose from. After crashing into things you are going to see your car to start to smoke and ither cool effects. The game is at medium level but the game can get pretty hard sometimes. Now the cops have choppers which can get kind of enoing because they drop some bomb things but they can also be fun. I dont know what else to say but the game is great and its totally worth buying because of all the fun that the game has. |

NFS: HP2 | 4.6 0 comments |

| I have seen much improved graphics from the PS1 and PC versions of the old games, much better damage details and nicer cars, now lets get to the bad aspects of the game, you still cannot tune your car and customize it, you can only chose a color and a track, there still isn't enough cars to fullfill the racers dream and the realism just isn't there, therefor I am taking .4 points off the games total score. That is pretty good for a game created in so little time. |

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 | 4.5 0 comments |
by Jet Black from , Illinois, "United States" | Mar 27, 2003 |
THE GOOD: Sheer feeling of speed and control, customizability of preferences, lots of tracks, lots of carsTHE BAD: Framerate at times SUMMARY: Although I've only played this game for an evening, I feel the need to submit a review for it. I have owned the original NFS: HP for PS1 and was attracted to the new title because of that.
This is largely an arcade racing game with licences from many car manufacturers. There are 49 cars available in the game, and the ability to customize different paintjobs makes it a lot cooler. To me, the amount of cars available was overwhelming.
Another thing that really adds to this game are the environments. I've heard people complain that the graphics are too grainy, that there's some jaggies...sure, NFS isn't a graphical masterpiece, but it's a great looking game, to me. On ONE TRACK, I went through a desert, backroads, jungle, mountains, and a full-blown city. This was amazing. One trait I noticed the game picked up from the first NFS title was the way the tracks are simliar, or have the same graphical parts (like a bridge) this adds to the confusion but not to the fun. A great game! |
