INTRO
NFL2K2 is a decent Football simulator complete with all your favorite NFL teams based on the 2001/2002 season. As with most Football games you have the ability to assume the controls from one of the many teams offered as well as create your own team from scratch while ultimately trying to win the championship.
GAMEPLAY 7/10
The gameplay in NFL2K2 is ok in that the controls handle well and you do not need to be a rocket scientist in order to learn the different moves and plays. You can play several different modes including Exhibition, Season, and Franchise mode which allows you to build a team from scratch as well as handle all the daily activities associated with running a professional football team. There is also a Coach mode where all you do is call the plays and watch as you team attempts to execute them without your control of the actual players. Also you can select several different difficulty levels to match your abilities so that even a first timer can pick up the controller and whip the computer 107 to 3. The plays and routes that you have access to are relatively easy to learn and execute. One drawback is the lack of player moves. Sure you have juking, spins and stiff arms but there should have been some more variety added in even if it were restricted to just these moves. Also it would have been cool to be able to choose your own victory poses after scoring a touchdown.
GRAPHICS 7/10
The graphics are pretty nicely orchestrated overall in the sense that there is a great diversity of sights and effects. The weather effects look realistic and the light gleams off the helmets in a cinematically picturesque way. The players however are a little blocky at times and there are very few players that even remotely resemble their real life counterparts. The different stadiums all look relatively realistic and the replay feature is slightly above par.
CAMERA 7/10
There are a few different camera modes available in NFL2K2 but there is nothing extraordinary worth mentioning here except that the replay angles are the most enjoyable ones. Unfortunately there is no ''Look Back'' angle when running with the ball so you never really know if there is heat right on your tail or not.
SFX 7/10
The SFX are very well done in general and the announcers are similar to your average ESPN anchors in that they break down the game/teams beforehand and add their commentary throughout gameplay. The player comments are decent but not mind blowing and the referee sounds realistic and explains the rules behind the flags which is a nice touch. There is also the reporter who gives injury updates and that is one of the cooler features in the overall sound department. Hits and collisions all sound good.
REPLAY VALUE 7/10
Replay value can been quite high depending on how much you personally like the game although in my opinion it becomes repetitive relatively quick. If you have a second player however then obviously the life of this game should gone on much longer than otherwise expected.
OVERALL 7/10
Overall NFL2K2 is a good game in the sense that it is easily learned and played and you have several different modes to mess around with. The game is realistic enough to captivate your attention although after a while it tends to be repetitive. If you are considering purchasing this game then I would recommend you rent it beforehand and if after two days you still love it then go buy it.

THE GOOD:
The detail in the game is unbelievable.Its qiucker gameplay and real to life player sizes and attributes make the game slide way past madden 2002.Back to detail you can see the stichingsin the turf hows that for detail.When a player grunts the mouth moves when aplyer gets it his is shuts and his face scrunges in pain. Now thats detail.THE BAD:
the game is BAD ass SUMMARY:
its great the commentary is alays talking neverhearing the same things over and over and the player chatter is hilarios with some of the things they say and the 1 thing thats great is that the players look exactly like the players in real life unlike maddens fake faces.EX #92 Strahan has a true to life gap |
