THE GOOD: Improvements from the old version: -nicely detailed combat animations -more pilots from MSV and the infamous zeon ace corps -more user friendly map -nicely implemented command points to plan invasions -extra suits and some new designs (The all new gyan krieger, and high mobility "stuffs" anyone?) -free scenario mode (create your own faction)
THE BAD: -they got rid of some pilots (Nimbus Schterzen is one of them) -less mobile suits (some msv designs didn't make it) -the plot for winning the zeon scenario is a little different (in-consistency?) -only spans up to one year war (unlike the old one)
SUMMARY: General idea
This game is really challenging in normal mode and pretty much you have to manage all aspects of the factions (R&D, fleet management, and yes you have to deal with your citizens who wants peace or your troops will stop moving one battlegroup by one battlegroup) This is taken from the japanese version of the game. I will presume that most people have played the older version instead of explaining the whole mechanism ^^;;;
Gameplay I consider the gameplay has majorly improved over the old one. the main interface is nicely drawn, and the map overview in the old game has been replaced with just a newer map; basically it's and overview of strategic points you have to take over and defend. the spying goes a little different. and now you can only attempt to steal a unit from your enemy, instead of stealling a plan and rebuilding an army of them. colony relations still goes the same except the relation with one colony will go down if you go for the other one, it's rather tricky but challenging. and now you also have to deal with your own people (the congress). you now have to plan your assault and set up entry routes. the neat extra point for this game, is the ability to intercept incoming fleet if you know, they're coming that is (intelligence div. anyone?). and now you have the ability to organize a battle group insted of just picking random units and move them across the world map. the battle map is still the same hex based one but they put new battle animation sequences. and YES you can upgrade your units so it can at least buy some time against some of the utterly powerful enemy units
Graphics
the graphics it self is not bad considering they had to store all the 3d designs into ONE dvd, but i would say this deserves an A. especially the interactive enviroments for example; night fightings, at first you will see only a bunch of mono-eyes walking into the fray, and then everythings lit up with a flare. this kinda gives me the actual feel that the battle still goes on even at night time. the mobile suits and vehicles are pretty well drawn. And the overview map did get alot of improvements.
Sound/Music
The background music for the game is nice, and it has been updated. the zeon background music is mostly from the zeonic front video game, and the fedies is mostly from the DC simulation game (0079 White Dingos: where the colony falls). the sound effects themselves are really nice. and yes in this version they actually recorded the people gathered in a field in tokyo yelling for the zeon speeches.
Movies
movies is kinda ok, the new cgs worked on some points but sometimes, it just looks plain cheesy. it is up to you to decide but i like the new colony blast.
Hopefully this review works out for you. but i really enjoyed this game just because the almost limitless scenarios. hopefully more people are going to like this game. Thanks
Krieger Ps: i am not a gyan fan.
