Good in one way, bad in other way | 4.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: -2D gameplay is back. -There is no annoyingly frustrating music. -Good graphics. -Good storyline. -New navigators. -Ability to create Chips and use them. -Lot of hidden items.
THE BAD: -Some old characters are cut out. -Game is really easy, even if you play on Hard and it is too short. -Sigma is annoying and he is again back. -All that thing about Lumine is interesting and about that new world, but it didn't last for long. -Some levels and powers were just copies of previous X games. SUMMARY: This game is really a good thing if you look at this way: Game creators didn't focus after X6 on Virus thing and that stuff. This story is all new and it really doesn't have connection to previous ones. New navigators, new enemies, intermissions, metals, chips, that's really awsome. The energy bar, although, reminds me of a X1, X2 and X3. The music is really cool. It fits levels really. It's not annoying. X has again new armor and he can power it up. Zero has cool moves and cool weapons, I really like D-Glaive. I can't say anything for Axl, except I like some of his weapons like Ray Gun and his White Armor. If you look at it this way, buy this game, really! But if you look at this way: I personally miss Virus thing, because it was really interesting to fight Zero in X6 and again get him back. MMX8 really jumped from that story. I'm really sad because of that. Don't count MMX7, I really think that game shouldn't be published. They could merge it with MMX8 so game could be really long and with lot of stories. What happened to Dinamo, Life Saver, Douglas, Gate and Isaac and all those people from MMX5 and MMX6? They just banished. There are no more Hunters to save in here and actually that was some simbol of MMX games. Some weapons are just copies from previous X games. Like Zero's weapon of Dark Mantis. You could use that power in MMX6. X's powers of Burn Rooster kinda reminds of power in MMX5. Primrose level is just a copy of level in MMX5 where you can also change gravity. After all of that, I think creators knew they are going to cut off some characters to create a new story and they just put Vile back so people can think game isn't really that different. It is. So, if you think like this, you could buy this game, but I think you won't enjoy it.
I think game is really cool. I like it and I'm glad I have it. I just feel sorry because some characters no more exist. |

The X series makes a comeback | 4.5 0 comments |
by Epsalon X from Draygonia, , City of Dragons | Feb 16, 2005 |
THE GOOD: Graphics, Music, storyline, characters. 3D game-play is removed Challenging, but not frustrating Lots of hidden items and unlockables Unexpected plot twists New Navigator SystemTHE BAD: Nothing really. Its everything that MMX7 wasn't. SUMMARY: What can I say? This game improved and fixed all of the problems and annoyances of Megaman X7.
No annoying voices. The game uses the same voices from Command Mission. Axl is greatly improved upon, and is actually given unique skills and abilities so to avoid making him another copy of X. Zero is much better utilized in this game as well, and can use a number of unique weapons, as well as the Z-Saber. X himself, has two new armors, where he can interchange the parts, and use the best abilities of each.
Lots of new characters and plot twists (one of which being Vile's return). New feature to choose between three different navigators (Alia, Layer, and Pallete) to find all of the secrets within each level.
No more annoying reploid rescuing. Now you collect metals and rare metals, and buy all of your upgrades for each individual character, as well as others for use by all three. Plenty of secret unlock-ables as well.
The game's graphics and music are really smooth and well used. The game is overally challenging, but not at the point of annoyance and frustration like in other X games.
Overall, this game could easily be one of the best games in the X series yet. A must have for any Megaman fan. |

Back and Better | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Side scroller - no awkward 3D parts Lots of extras Good Replay value Get to use all 3 characters right away (no searching for zero etc.) Cool weapons and enemies
THE BAD: Boss voice overs are pretty crappy Some of the bosses are very similar to old ones or ones from other games...
SUMMARY: This is a great game. The characters animations are sweet and the graphics are good. There are a lot of weapons you can get for axl and zero, and the new armour system for x is cool. If you liked the old megaman x games, you'll definitely like this one. The 3D bits of megaman x7 are gone... guess ppl didnt like em. The return of Sigma is probably the coolest part... enemies with swords are always fun to play.
This game will last you a fair bit of time, as long as you try to get 100% |

The best Mega Man game yet. | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Vile is back
Good graphics
Axl is better in this game than he was in X7.
The gameplay is normal again. The gameplay in X7 was too slow.
Burn Rooster and Lumine. The coolest bosses in this game.
Good replay value
Good musicTHE BAD: To tell you the truth I didn't really find anything bad about this game. SUMMARY: Difficulty: Easy
You know I can't believe some people actually like X1 and X3 better than this game. I found them both to be the worst games in the X series but I still somewhat enjoyed them. I know alot of people hate X6 and X7 but this game is a big improvement upon them. You get to find rare metals to discover new powers in this game. Zero can even get Sigma's Blade once you beat the game!
Mega Man fans please buy this game or atleast rent it. This game deserves a perfect score of 5/5 or 10/10. |

Finally, Relief from the crap of X6 and X7 | 4.7 0 comments |
by Smoke N a Pancake from Sacramento, , USA | Dec 29, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Much better than X7 Tons of secrets High range of difficulty Weapons are fun to use Vile is back Lot's of replay value if you want completionTHE BAD: Crappy voice acting, most of the time Sub plot can be a little irritating at times like other X games, it's very short SUMMARY: Finally, some relief from the crap know as Megaman X6 and Megaman X7. Megaman X8 is finally something that fans of the series can rejoice about, and leaves us wanting for another in the future.
X8 has many secrets and features that you couldn't find in the previous X games, and the gameplay is a large steup of from the choppy 2D/3D mix in X7. Vile has finally made his long awaited return to the series, and it's always fun to beat up on him like old times. There's two new navigators to help you along your way, and if you plan on playing the game to completion, you'll have to use all of them at one point in time or another.
Despite the not so good voice acting, the characters are generally more tolerable than in some of the previous games, and although I'm not a fan of some of the sub plots, it's a little relief to some from the storyline at times.
The game also has a new innovation called intermissions that you can find while playing the game, although you'll have to play the game through a few times to get them all. Intermissions add a little more fun to the game, and give you something to do if you even get bored.
Level design is much better than in the past, and it's not difficult to the point where you can't complete a level without having at least one of your characters die. the new double attack feature is nice, and is pretty appealing to the eye for most.
All in all, due to the many secrets in the game to uncover and the fun in each level, the game is great for the hardcore X fan hoping to get some relief from the mediocre games recently released. (Megaman X: Command Mission is also a great buy!) 4.7 for a fan of the series, and maybe a 3.7 for someone who hasn't played a Megaman game before. |

THE GOOD: 95% 2D gameplay Increased difficulty Characters are balanced Decent voiceovers Awesome level designs Best sidescroller game for the PS2 No more reploids to rescue!
Not anything like Megaman X7 (which was crap)THE BAD: Game tends to slow down on certain occasions The levels with the ride chaser need to improve and can get annoying. The storyline isn't a masterpiece but understandable. SUMMARY: It's been a year since Megaman X7 was released, and I was not looking forward to X8. I had very low expectations for this game as the "X" series seemed to by dying more and more every year. However, Megaman X8 brings back what we all missed in Megaman X1-6: decent gameplay and 2D side-scrolling.
Like all Megaman X games, you start with the introduction level and must defeat 8 bosses who are blocking your path to the evil Sigma. You can choose from 3 characters (X, Zero, and Axl), two of which you can take to a certain stage. As you defeat the bosses, you receive weapons and techniques similar to their's. These weapons can be strategically used to defeat other bosses and uncover hidden items. Hidden items (such as armor parts and rare metals) are hidden all over the different stages. The good news is, finding them is optional and not required.
The speed of the game has had major improvements since Megaman X7. The characters are now fun to use. The voiceovers are great and not annoying like the ones in Megaman X7. You can now turn on the volume on your TV when playing. The replay value of the game is outstanding for a Megaman game, as the first time through will most likely take you 8-15 hours to complete. However, the fun doesn't stop after that. The desire to buy all chips and upgrade your characters to the fullest will keep you interested in the game.
New features:
Double team attack New currency system where metals collected throughout the game can be used to buy chips, which have specific functions to upgrade your character. Combo system
Overall, Megaman X8 is great game. I would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of Megaman or who loves classic side-scrolling. It brings back old memories of the first four X games. It's been a long time since I played an X game this good. |

the blue bomber gets a face lift | 4.3 0 comments |
by megatron from in a house, , over there | Dec 19, 2004 |
Okay, lets take a little trip down memory lane to the old days of the snes. Those were some cool years. thats when megaman x first amde its debug. People loved it. coming in to the late 90's X gets a face lift to the ps1. With a great megaman X4 success and then the fall with megaman X6. capcom didnt learn anything from its past mistakes and launched megaman X7. Wich pretty much sucked. Then, they went back to the drawing board and made the game good this time. Yes my friends, thats megaman X8. The game starts out with a cutscene that looks hand-drawn but at the same time computerized. Looks starge, good and satisfying. Some of the story line is revealed in that first cutscene. And you will probably notice that it is better than last year's story. Now, lets talk about the gameplay, The controls respond nicely and run smoothly. Except in the 3d vehicle stages wich controll cheaply. The graphics are well excecuted and the character design rocks (as always) Nut the main characters suffer from some polygons. not too pretty. But the level's scenery is nice. Especially in the sigma palace level. The difficulty of this game is pretty harsh but its nothing compared to viewtiful Joe. This is the annoying kind of hard. But still makes you want to try over and over again. After you fight the boss youll find that its not so hard. But the game is a bit tricky at some points. Since you can choose only 2 of 3 heroes you need to choose wisely depending on their abilities. and yes, you can copy the boss's weapons and zero gets starnge named moves from them like the raseteusen. Final grading: Graphics:6.7/10cool, colorful but a bit outdated and litterally square. Gameplay:8.8/10 The controlls respond nicelly but hard to use and the vehicle levels screw it up. Life Span:5.2/10 After you beat it its not so much fun anymore. good for renting 2 or 3 times. but only buy it if you are a true megaman X fan.
