Maximo "Ghosts to Glory." | 1.0 0 comments |
by alfsaliens from Portsmouth, NH, USA | Feb 22, 2004 |
THE GOOD: The price 19.99, The games title and then goes down hill from there. THE BAD: Camera rotation blows. Story is lame. Too much Maximo dieing and not enough armor laying around. Save system is attrocious. What are all those coins used for? and why can't I kill the stupid , skeleton hands coming out of the ground. What is that all about? If they were attempting a Zelda like game or a ghosts and goblins kind of game, they failed worse than miserably. SUMMARY: Don't waste your time OR your money. If you recieved this game for free, use it as a drink coaster. Why do video game companies put out crap like this? What are thier play testers thinking? Look, If Capcom reads any of these, and they won't because they hate the truth, give me a job. I'll play test all of your manure laden video games and tell you what they are really good for. |

THE GOOD: Nothing....THE BAD: Everthing! The gameplay, the graphics, the stupid humor, the characters.... SUMMARY: When I first heard about this game, I heard that it was going to have the enjoyment and puzzles of what Zelda had but boy were they wrong!
I found this game boring and unenjoyable due to the fact that it was repetitive(very repetitive) and the levels were very uncreative as were the enemies.
Overall Outcome: Rent It! |

This Game is a Total B*tch | 2.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: is there anything to mention? it's even barely a worthy sequel to Ghouls 'n' GoblinsTHE BAD: Game's Bitchiness, screwy character design, bland story. SUMMARY: Excuse my language but this si the biggest bitch since the prostitutes in GTA3, you have to pay 100 coins to save (suppose you have rush to some important business and you're a coin short), continue points increase in value as the game progresses (the grim reaper needs you help for god's sake, why is he asking for more and more coins? they're already tough to get), I wouldn't waste the valuable time of my life on this crap load, Jak & Daxter is alot more fun than this |

Not the Maximum in enjoyment | 3.2 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Graphics Sound Design of levels The look is awesomeTHE BAD: Controls Camera The look is better than the game itself The save system sucks SUMMARY: This is not your average platformer. You are Maximo helping Death(you have to, you are now dead) to get revenge on Achille(the bad guy) while saving your girlfriend and the four sorceresses.
What is really successful in this game is the presentation. It looks cool, and the cartoony graphics are amazing. The look is the capstone of the game, and that holds it together. The playability of the game is somewhat marred by bad camera and controls. It is really hampered by the lack of save opportunities. Even the checkpoints have to be specially struck by your sword if you wish to start off somewhere other than at the beginning of a level.
This game is loaded with challenges, however, and the 100% gamer will find plenty to occupy his/her time. Most casual gamers however, will be turned off by the game's not so user-friendliness. You can customize Maximo's attacks, once you've earned them, and occasionally you'll find power-ups along the way. These die out after a bit and usually when you need them the most. The battles are hard and the difficulty level of this game is quite intense, especially because of the lack of save opportunities. Once you get the hang of it, though you will probably play for a couple of hours, then put the game down for a while.
This is one of those games that you play, then play something else, then play again, but it won't consume you. It might take you months to beat, because you'll get tired of doing the same thing over and over, trying to conserve your Death Coins (you have to pay Death in order to continue.) The difficulty can be aggravating at times, small children will probably be advised to avoid this frustration.
The cutscenes and story are cute, along with the characters. This is very good, but the game could have been cute as well, not just in look. Some minor game redesign would have helped this game, because where it lacks - it sorely lacks. Wait until you can find this game for cheap before you make a purchase. Otherwise, rent it, and if you like it, go for it. |

Maximo | 4.3 0 comments |
by Someone1125 from Cleveland, , USA | Jul 31, 2002 |
THE GOOD: Overall gameplay, challenge, music, extra challengesTHE BAD: camera, might be to hard for mainstream gamers SUMMARY: Maximo is a good overall game for most gamers. Though it may be a bit tough for newbie gamers Capcom has done a good job of bringing this game back from the past.
The music was not bad but not something would want to download on the internet and usually fit the setting.
The graphics were on par with most other games though no special CG graphic movies were in this game they were pleasant to look at.
The stroyline was very well written kept me entertained most of the time. |

Good old fun in glorious 3D | 4.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Graphics, maniability, fun all round, challenging, entertaining combat systemTHE BAD: Laughable camera system, maybe a little tough for newbies? SUMMARY: Based on the old Capcom hit Ghouls and Ghosts, Maximo offers a challenging but rewarding platform package, full of skeletons and zombies to slash.
The scenario is best left ignored, kill-baddies-to-rescue-princess, but despite its simplicity, the game acts like some sort of drug to the player: just one more go before bedtime...
You'll sure need quite a few tries before seeing the end of Maximo, as the saving system is a little harsh. You have to pay to save, and only at the end of a level! With only 4 lives to start with, it's tough being a ghoulbuster! Luckily, by collecting souls throughout the game, you'll be able to buy "Continues", making it a little easier.
The combat system is a real gem. Equipped with a shield, you'll be able to block most attacks (that is, until he's broken), and your sword allows for a range of cool blows. Every enemy has his weak points, it's up to you to find them, and it adds a little variety in the game. You have a wide choice of enchantments and power-ups for your gear, making you more powerful.
Scattered all along the area are buried chests with all sorts of goodies. When you have finished a level, you are informed about the percentage of completion of the level. When the game is completed, trying to get 100% on all levels is a new challenge, bringing back several hours of life in the game. And you might even get a bonus when everything is finished...
One main flaw in the game is the camera system: you don't have much control, and the view only returns behind the player when you press L1. R1 is a sort of first person view, but it works badly, especially of rotating platforms. It would have been nice to be able to use the right joystick to rotate the cam freely... Maybe in the sequel?
All in all, a really great game, for all ages (no blood or offensive parts) as long as the kid is born with a paddle in his hands... because it is quite difficult.
But worth it! |

THE GOOD: Action, controls, story, puzzles.THE BAD: Ok, not really bad, but it might be just a bit better, music. SUMMARY: I am really enjoying this game. My previous favorite was Jak & Daxter. The most recent game I finished was Baldur's Gate.
But I really like Maximo. The players in my house tend to the extreem. Myself, I am a detailed player, trying to get everything. My son is the opposite, playing the minimum to get through a level. We work great together. He is also enjoying the game tremendously.
It's not quite a slick as Jak & Daxter, but very close. The controls work nearly perfectly. There's only one time, crouching, that I find doesn't respond quickly.
I don't mind repeating levels to build lives... I know there's tough challenges on each higher (in some cases 'lower') level.
I think the bottom line, if you liked Mario 64, and Jak & Daxter, you'll get your money's worth from Maximo. |

THE GOOD: The good is the graphics, the control, sounds, and I like the storyline...THE BAD: The bad is you don't have anymore weapon just a sword and you can only have power ups, and sometimes you loose them when you die... SUMMARY: Well the game was really cool and I really liked it... Its sometimes hard to jump platform to platform... And the game is to short... Well the game rockss... thats all... |
