THE GOOD: Over 50 characters spanning from both the Marvel and Capcom universe. This adds to the overall value of the game. With this many how could you get bored easily?
Up to 3 on 3 battle, a first (for it's time) in a Marvel/Capcom game.THE BAD: This game is out of print so it's very hard to come by. I still have this from when it first came out and it was one of my best game decisions ever on not to sell it.
Characters require lots of points to unlock (about 800+) and during battle you only gain about 10 points so it takes a long time to get enough points for characters, stages, etc. SUMMARY: This game has no real plot as it combines to company's characters into one. Of course there is no real main character either except for the major characters of each side I would say. I prefer it that way though, with this many characters it would be very tough to keep track of everything that happens story wise.
The major characters I say would have to be Ryu, Ken, Bison, Guile, Megaman from the Capcom side. From the Marvel side I usually think there is more of them for some reason but they are Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom, Silver Samurai, and Magneto. Most of these characters are my preferred ones because they are easy to use and can pull off some outstanding combos.
It's a 2D fighter so you can basically expect what you've seen before. Most players, me included, prefer the 2D fighter over a 3d. Simply because you don't have to go through the complicating task of side stepping and what not. There aren't to many things that will make the game complicating as well.
I would have loved to see some type of online mode for this game. Usually online modes don't appeal to unless it has some sort of online mode. Sadly this one does not. I can see why though, this game was an early one so it's reasonable for not having such a mode.
It gets kind of annoying for me not to hear to much audio or voices from the characters. Seems to me like I'm just looking at a muted TV during gameplay. And the tunes aren't to good either, they just don't seem to be good sounds for a fighting game since I usually like more fast paced sounds to accompany my fights.
About the tag teams, these are great because you can mix and match teams to try and make the perfect one. You can even combine all three finishers from your characters during gameplay! I really like that feature because if your in a tight spot they can get you out of it. To bad they don't have mixed names like in Marvel vs Street Fighter though.
I'm not to fond of the controls for this. If you're more of a Street Fighter/Capcom you'll see why. The keys you have to input for finishers don't match up with those of the real fames so it gets annoying trying to learn new combinations.
For a 2D fighter I'd say these are good graphics. I mean they have all the real elements such as shades, colors, etc which makes the game visually appealing. And of course my favorite part about the graphics is the backgrounds. They are designed to move and are more graphically updated which means they are better looking but they match with the character's graphics so it looks perfect.
This game is somewhat repetitive because all there is to do are VS modes and the Arcade mode in which both you can earn points unlock the characters and extra stages. Though the inclusion of the extras as I mentioned earlier make it all the worth while.
The game can last you a very long time if you try to go for unlocking everything by fighting and not just leaving on your PS2 for "lazy points". Plus the 50+ plus characters will keep you busy up until the point you have learned all of the finishers combinations, combos and basically just mastered a few of them.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good fighting game. But beware of it prices, even Gamestop sells it for about $50 so only if you truly want this game should you get it. If the prices weren't as they are though I think everyone should be going for it. It just has a very fun fighting style and it is hard to put down. |

THE GOOD: Music fits in for the gameplay and some of the levels, a LOT of characters to choose from, many different difficulty levels, everything else is fantasticTHE BAD: Err... since its a fighting game, it gets a bit boring after a while, but thats solved with multiplayer capability SUMMARY: Wow. This fighting game is very fast, amazing, and just overall.. a VERY Fun game. I would seriously recommend this to any fighting game fanatic, or just if you’re a regular fan. There are a good 56 characters to choose from, there are many, many unlockables, the one player mode is still really great, the hyper combo’s are seriously breathtaking, and I wont even get started on the Triple-Hyper combo’s. As you can see, there are many great things about this game. One being that I think that it is quite possibly the best 2D fighting game that was ever created. Another point is that it deserves a lot more publicity than it gets since its 2D, and quite underestimated.
I would say get it if you’re a fan of fighting because it’s a really great game. You wont be disappointed that you bought it. |

THE GOOD: Flashy graphics, Smooth Gameplay, Lots of CharactersTHE BAD: The Music!!!, Replay Value a little low, Skill Level Low SUMMARY: I never really was that into fighting games until recently so this review may help someone out thinking of buying this game.
I bought this game looking for a new fighter that I could sink some hours into and have some tournament battles with friends. My initial reaction when I popped this game in was it seemed pretty cool, then I watched the lame intro while I read the move lists in the manual.
When I first started playing the game I thought the skill level was way to low. Any moron could beat this game. Any moron can win here. That can be good and bad. Good if you want an even matchup with all yur friends, or bad if you want a game that requires skill and brainpower.
Keep in mind I played this game after sinking some decent time into Capcom vs SNK Pro. A great game I might add. C vs SNK Pro requires skill. This game requires very little.
But enough bashing this game because it does have some strong points. The best thing in this game is prolly the 50+ roster. The game actually gets some replay when you have to earn points to buy Characters, new costumes, and Art in the built in shop. Thats whats keeping me busy anyway.
Another strong point of this game is the crisp graphics and the easy flow of the game. Good luck playing the comp on hard with turbo on. It can get frustrating. I get off track dont I?
Well anyway, the bottomline I guess is should you buy this game or not? If your new to fighters pick it up and even if yur an avid fighter fanatic pick this game up. The $40 price tag isnt bad, but if you can buy it used that'd be even better. If this game was $50 bucks I would rent it or play it at the arcade. So everyone give this game a shot.

THE GOOD: The chaos, speed and the varietyTHE BAD: the misplaced music, and cock-eyed method of buying characters. SUMMARY: if you like those old fashioned 2-d fighters like streetfighter, then this is the game for you, particularly if you played it in the arcade. one thing though, go into the options screen, and turn the music off, because it will make you hurt people... not characters, but whoever may be standing next to you, its really that bad. so if youre looking for seizure- causing speed in a game full of bright lights, 99-hit combos... and huge guys with massive guns that pop out of little red riding hood's basket and subsequently beat the other guy to a pulp, then buy this game. |

Well I am a huge fan of the first. I used to go after school, before school, even ditch school every day to play it with my friends. Once I play part 1 on PSX I was a little disppointed but still enjoyed it. So my interest in part 2 was at a high.
First thing you gotta talk about in a fighting game is the fighting. I was very disappointed. It is all hyped up to super speed and no real skill is involed. Many times I found myself beating some of the best guy at a arcade and losing to the button mashers.
Next is the characters. his is probably the stron point. Every character you could want is in this game. Many of them are really cheap but for a beginner that would be a good thing I guess.
Music is good. Noting to brag about but it does get you in the mood to kick a$$.
The controls are average. Again the super high speed makes it weird at first plus with up to 6 players in battle at once it can get hectic.
Overall this game is okay. Not a whole lot of replay value and only fun with friends. Really I suggest going to the arcade rather then buying it. |
