THE GOOD:
Amazing space-based combat.
Easy to get to grips with.
Interesting plotline.
"Star Wars" characters from Episode II.
Adds a new layer of diversity to the "Star Wars" universe.
Force powers of mass destruction.
Unlockable extra features.
Slave One as a playable space craft.
Fun movie sequences.
Solid length.
Multiplayer co-operative and deathmatch.

THE BAD:
Functional but questionable graphics.
Some large-scale glitches.
Only half the score is from John Williams.

SUMMARY:
Spaceships blast by, lightsabers go "wum" and the villain has a scarred face... yes, "Star Wars" is back on the PlayStation2 with "Jedi Starfighter", the sequel to the first next generation offering from LucasArts that ties in to the storyline of Episode II - Attack of the Clones. The question, however, is this: does this recreate the magic of the movie, or are we looking at something to join "Super Bombad Racing" in the bargain bins?

"Jedi Starfighter" puts you in control of two space fighters during the course of the intricate storyline that involves an ally of Sith Lord Count Dooku creating a new bio-weapon and threatening to use it on the Republic. Firstly, the title of the game provides the opportunity to zoom around in the ultra-nippy Jedi Starfighter MK 1, flown by Jedi Counsel member Adi Gallia. As a Jedi, your secondary weapons include devestating Force powers that consist of a shockwave, lightning burst and slow-motion jiggery-pokery for you to play around with. Secondly, when other battles need to be fought, "Starfighter" character Nym returns in his Havoc bomber, alongside his motley crew of renegades who just happen to hate the evil Trade Federation, who themselves just happen to be allies with Count Dooku, who just happens to hate the Republic and therefore hate the Jedi... see where the plot is going?

The space combat itself is wonderfully executed, with waves of Droid Starfighters and Saboath Squadron attack ships pouring onto your screen accompanied by an impressive frame-rate (one of the major niggles of the first "Starfighter" game). When your laser cannons just don't cut it, secondary weapons are available, ranging from the aforementioned Force powers that Adi Gallia can use to the energy bombs, guided missiles and remote mines that come as standard on the Havoc bomber. Fast, frantic action make up the varied missions: at one point, you could be blasting missiles from the sky before they level a city, and the next flying inside a ground base owned by the Trade Federation to bomb the reactor core... think the Death Star on a smaller scale. Two missions even cross paths with Attack of the Clones towards the end of the game, seeing Adi Gallia in orbit around and in the atmosphere of Geonosis, helping the Clone Troopers decimate the droid factories and start the Clone War.

However, the graphics seem to have suffered as a result of the smooth frame-rate. While clear and functional, there is little spit and polish visible, and some ground-based missions have the biggest faults of all: as you peel off into space, you can see a wide black expanse where the horizon ends along with the programming. Having dragged this up, it should be noted that this is only visible on two or three missions, as many take place in space where everything is black after all! But it can detract from the experience, especially after a cracking battle where you've only just pulled through.

If the missions start getting a little challenging for just you and your faithful R2 unit, you can opt for the co-operative mode in which any mission can be played out with two space craft instead of one. Tactics can be formed between friends, and when all the 'playing nice' on the single player gets boring or completed there are some perfectly reasonable deathmatches to be had... one even taking place back (or is it forward?) in the original trilogy universe between an X-Wing and a TIE fighter. Unlockable they might be, but it's worth the effort, as is all the other unlockable secrets that include extra single player starships, that include Jango Fett's Slave One, and fun outtake movies created specially by the nice people at LucasArts. Musically, the John Williams score is recognisable and very welcome during intense dogfights, but is often interrupted by tacky tunes created for "Jedi Starfighter" alone: the mismatch of techniques feels uncomfortable, but only until the classic blast of orchestra kicks back in and you're away chasing some poor sap in a Saboath attack vessel.

"Jedi Starfighter" is amazing space-based combat of the highest degree. The last time a space-based shooter came this close to perfection was "Star Trek: Invasion!" on the PlayStation, and so despite coming from a different universe, "Jedi Starfighter" works as the next generation upgrade that has been a long time coming. Before I slip into backwards Yoda talking, I will just say that this game is wonderful fun... dear oh... go, here I...

PS2  Best Star Wars shooter you'll find outside of Rouge Squadron 4.5

THE GOOD:
- nice graphics
- cool co-op multiplayer modes
- the unlockable ships are so cool(the X-wing, Slave 1, just to name a few)
- fun missions
- the cut-scenes are pretty cool
- the targeting was good

THE BAD:
-more force powers would've been nice
-the enemy AI is weak
-more bonus ships!(theres quite a few, i jsut want more)
-The game is too short
-too mnay escorting missions(though they are fun, i just want more missions where you dont have to worry about failing a level cuz some transport blew up)

SUMMARY:

This is one of the best star wars shooters ever, second only to the Rouge Squadron series. The missions are rally fun, usually i have escort missions but in this game, they are alright. The bonus ships and levels are cool. its nice to fly around in a TIE fighter in a game that takes place around Episode 2. theres also 2 player co-op for all the story missions and even some death match bonus levels. The force powers were good, i jsut want to see more than 4 of them. Theres only 15 story missions, i was expecting alot more. Despit its flaws, this is a great star wars game!

THE GOOD:
-The Force Powers
-Unlocking Ships
-The cut scenes
-The objectives

THE BAD:
-Way too short
-Sometimes Frustrating
-A tiny bit repetitive

SUMMARY:

I hadn't bought the original Starfighter but I heard that this game was good, I bought it and found that this game is almost too addictive. The missions interact with eachother very well, you start with young Jedi Adi Gallia testing the new prototype Starfighter, she then befriends Nym and all his alien buddies and goes on group and seperate missions. Adi has a set of 'Force Powers', some special moves that she can perform helping her with her task (Force Shield, Force Lightening, Shockwave etc.). The game is a bit too easy but but good value for money, doing bonus objectives unlocks classic and new ships such as the X-Wing and Tie Fighter. The cutscenes, although few, have beatiful graphics and are cunningly crafted to fit in with the game. I'd recommend this game to anyone who finds the least bit of pleasure in space games.

PS2  Good Starwars game. 3.5

THE GOOD:
-force powers
-variety of characters
-lots of unlockable ships
-cooler ships then in Star Wars:Star Fighter
-better multiplayer then Star Wars:Star Fighter

THE BAD:
-short
-more multiplayer levels would be cooler
-more ships would be nicer

SUMMARY:
Jedi Starfighter is a pretty good Star Wars game. it has more ships and better multiplayer than the original Starfighter, but the game doesnt last long enough for you to truely enjoy it. The addition of many more unlockable ships is a great thing(they have an X-Wing, a TIE Fighter, and even a Clone Trooper Gunship). The force powers are probably the game's best feature, and you'll beging to really enjoy using force lightning on anything that moves. Even though it is farely short, i still recommend that you buy it. you will come back to it everyonce and a while and it can provide some good fun when everything else just wont do.

PS2  Better than the first Starfighter 4.4

THE GOOD:
Force Moves

THE BAD:
Still too easy
Still too short

SUMMARY:
This game is almost the same as Star Wars Starfighter, except now there are new levels and force moves. There still is no radar, just the red arrow. The game is still easy due to some bad AI, and the game is still too short. I had some fun with this game, but it didn't last long. Unlocking secrets added some replay to the game. I would recommend this to fans of the first Starfighter

Bottom Line:

If you liked the first Starfighter get this game.

THE GOOD:
Craft variety, weapon variety, levels, characters, gameplay, sound/music, graphics, and of course: THE FORCE!

THE BAD:
Not enough levels, you finish, then you need MORE.

SUMMARY:
The game is really great, there are so many options you can't complete it all in two months (if you are as avid a gamer as me). Its links and ties to Episode two are so...so...enticing, it doesn't help thsoe who are eager enough to see the movie already. And if you've played Starfighter1 for PS2, this one is so much better, you will not believe it, or maybe you will...you'd have to get the game, though...

THE GOOD:
Nice graphics, use of The Force, cool multiplayer.

THE BAD:
Nothing, really.

SUMMARY:
Well, if you must have something to do with Episode II before it is released, then buy this. Hell, if you wanna burn around a starship, buy this! An entertaining multiplayer game, perfect one-player and The Force! Pushing away a Scarab Fighter with a Shockwave while pouring hot laser into another is definatly the way forward. If the film is as good as this, I can't wait!
