THE GOOD: Since it comes with two games thats two for the price of one, not only that but the games themselves range from 30 to 40 hours to completion and each game has great replability. Not only that but the gameplay is extreamly original.THE BAD: If you really care the graphics are really sub-par, they are in 2d and when it shows something in 3d it goes from ok to bad. SUMMARY: When you look at the title you will probably think "Nice title but what does it mean?" Well this inparticular game comes with two actually, Growlanser 2: The Sense of Justice and Growlanser 3:The Dual Darkness. Both of these games in my opinion are equal in greatness and both deserve to be on my number 1 list. Oh and by the way Growlanser 1 is a Ps1 game that neve made it to the US for some stupid reason unfortuantly. You can still get it but it will be in japanese.
The stories in the game are very well written and very creative(though I found the third ones story to be slightly more suspensful, not to bring down the other one in amy way though) In number two you are a Cadet on your way to becoming a knight. You are Wein Cruz, his weapon of choice is a Scythe. Now in the game people can equip rings, these rings turn into weapons which obviously allow you to fight. You can equip diffrent rings to raise your stats and such. Also you can equip certain gems that will allow you to achieve certain feats, such as attacking three times in a row instead of one, health regeneration, magic enpowerment, etc.
Unfortuantly there are certain rules you must follow to equip your little gems, first every ring will have 3 numbers in a decending order, meaning from the greatest number to the smallest from 0(useless)to 9(the best). Now each gem has a certain level, from lvl1, to 9. The higher the level the more useful it is. If you have a ring with lets say 3-2-1, then you can put a gem from lvl1-3 in the 3 slot, a lvl1 or 2 gem in the 2 slot and only a lvl1 in the 1 slot. If this sounds complicated it really isnt.
The gameplay preety much stays the same for both games, its also preety unique, I have never seen this style of gameplay before. In battle you have six choices: atk(attack) def(defend) tech(technique) mag(magic) mov(move manually) eqp(equip)(this changes to item in number 3, it allows you to use recovery itmes during battle instead of numer two which allows you to change your equipment during battle) When you click atk, you can select an enemy and your guy(or gal) will immediatly try and dispose of him/her/it with his/her attack. Now during battle you cant move freely but you can tell them where to go with a line that can branch of in four paths.(it sounds complicated but it truly isnt, its just kinda difficult to explain) Anyways when using magic it will ask you what level you wish to use the magic in.Depending what level you choose it will determine how powerful it will be and how long it will take, the more levels the more power. but also the longer it will take.
In Growlanser 2 you can move your character on a world map but other than that you really cant move the guy manually. He can only walk on the map from town to town. But in Growlanser 3 you can move the main guy (Slayn Wilder) like in any other rpg, its a preety big leap form the other game. In Growlanser 3 you are this Amnesiac boy(deja vu) and everything around seems to be shrouded in mystery. Its preety damn intersting. Each game has multiple endings. Growlanser 2 has numerous but Growlanser 3 has about 6. I recomend using this sites walkthroughs to aid in getting the ending you want.
Well overall I thought these games were masterpeices, with an intersting and fresh new kind of gameplay and plots that will have you guessing till the end, Zero and X gives this game his highest repects and says to buy it now if your an rpg buff! |
