To those of you that have no idea what this game is like or how it works let me explain:
Your in control of what looks like a little ship (it's not a ship but that's the best way to descibe it) going along a road (it's not a road but that's the best way to descibe it), on the road is a song laid out in 8 different lanes, each lane controls a certain aspect of a song ie, vocals, guitars, bass enz. Using 3 buttons on the controller you must hit the beats at the right time. After completing the chain in one lane you press left/right and complete the chain in the next lane. Which will result in the resemblence of a song. You get points for chaining lanes together, the more you get without missing a beat the higher your multiplier gets.

What lets this game down though are the songs. There are some well known songs in it like David Bowie. But most of them have never been heard of.
Also after completing one difficulty you unlock the next difficulty which contains all the same songs again with just one extra song.
Another complaint would be the lay out, Frequency has the excellent 'tunnel' layout but in Amplitude they've opted for a straight road which hinders the visibility of the lanes to the side.

All in all though Amplitude is still a great game, it might not have songs that you know but it still has the addictive gameplay and the cool feeling when you complete a song.

THE GOOD:
Quite original.
A lot of fun.

THE BAD:
Too hard once you get to a certain place.
I have heard of 0 of the songs, which are apparently "well known".

SUMMARY:
This has to be the best music game ever. It is. But there are a few flaws as well.

Gameplay
You basically go down a lane blasting blob of music. If you get a certain number in a row right, it sounds cool. Mess up and the tune dies. Sounds pretty simple.
8/10

Sounds
The apparently "well known" tunes are like this. Some are unknown songs form well known artists. Others are just unknown.
7/10

Difficulty
It starts off easy, but once you get so far, most of you will probably just give up, and go make some toast.
6/10

Replay Ability
It has 5 difficulty levels. Each time you do a harder difficulty, there is a whole (count them) 1 new song.
8/10

Multiplayer
Has a few good multiplayer modes, however, most of your friends won't play them, as they are under the impression that "All you do is press 3 buttons".
6/10

Overall 70%

THE GOOD:
Great concept.
Innovative.
Tests your reflexes.
Just one of the best PS2 games.
Some nice songs...

THE BAD:
...and some bad ones.
Overwhelming visuals.
Needs more songs.
Also needs ones that are more familiar to the general public.

SUMMARY:
Before I get into this fantastic game, I will attempt to describe what it does. You control a little ship that flies slowly along a musical highway. Each lane represents a different music type, such as drums, bass, vocals, guitar, etc. Along each lane are little capsules contaning bits of music. About 3 or more are connected by a neon strip. You must use your ship's blasters in the correct places at the right time to destroy the capsules. When you do, that music fragment will play. Complete a string and that part of the song will play for a while, allowing you to focus on other lanes. If you leave a part of a song too blank, your energy will steadily drain. Complete multiple strings without flooping will earn you multipliers for bonus points. Miss a beat and you will lose a small segment of energy. Recover energy by competing strings and passing through checkpoints. Powerups are also collected if you shoot a certain number of different-shaped capsules. THIS HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE GAMES I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!! The games gives you a total of 25 songs, which is a decent amount. I just wish that more songs could have been included. Also, while I have heard of Blink-1-8-2, Papa Roach, and Pink, I have never heard of Weezer, David Bowie, and those heavy metal jokers in level 3 (or 4...)! Maybe they should have included songs that most people have already heard of. I love the game's graphics, but the backdrops, while very amazing, are too heavy on the eyes. Millions of screens blaring colors and your freQ (basically their answer to Tetris World's Mino) combined with truly innovative but busy backdrops are sure to leave you in a dizzy trance. Only invincibly strong eyes (like moi) can look at this game in action for more than 30 minutes. People with a histroy of epilepsy should approach this game with caution. This game is still one of the best games on the PS2, and should provide hours of enjoyment.

General/Summary: I'm so impressed. Not only this is the sequel to Frequency, but it's also the best game on my most-wanted list. They put a combination of music genres such as trance, hip hop, rap-rock, house, electronic rock, and more. I'm a little disappointed because the songlist is 25 songs in one game, that's BOGUS! But the good news is that there's a great soundtrack mode where you can play the game's songs in original form. I love that. The graphics are sweet but too distracting when playing insane mode. The sounds of blink-182, David Bowie, Mekon (a familiar song of mine), Weezer, Pink, and returning artists like Freezepop, Akrobatik, Symbion Project, Komputer Kontroller, BT, and more. The remix mode is a nice break, you get to make your own mix of the song, change the BPM of the song, whatever. Just deal with the boredom of your creation and before you know it, you're done. The control is classic, Square, Triangle, & Circle. (Or L1, R1, R2 if you're using the triggers) The game flows like an audio/visual overload just like the original. It's a little hard trying to know where you're going because you can't get to the next instrument in time. That's also bogus. All in all it's still the most awesome game ever to be seen, minus the flaws.
Gameplay: It's classic square, triangle, circle control can get yourself wrist cramps and frustration when there are too many notes on one music track in BT's "Kimosabe", Manchild's "Nitro Narcosis" and further songs when playing in insane mode. That's my negative thing. And on the positive side, the camera follows the track's route like a rollercoaster. Cool.

Graphics: My most negative thing is the graphics. When you're playing a song in insane mode, The animation gets frentic. The FMV sequences are top-notch without the pixelation when seen up close. That is distracting.

Sound: P.O.D. with The Crystal Method, Garbage, Quarashi, Pink, BT, DJ HMX with Plural, Freezepop, Symbion Project, Weezer, Mekon with Roxanne Shante (familiar), Dieselboy, Papa Roach, Slipknot, and other artists really fill the music with only 25 songs. And the soundtrack mode is all original recordings of songs from this game. A Huge A+++
