THE GOOD:
New weapons and items
New Very Hard Difficulty
Compatible with DW3 maps
Keeps everything that was good in DW3THE BAD:
Have to change discs when you switch the PS2 if you want to use new things on old DW3 maps SUMMARY:
This game in my opinion is the best in the series. This is the one game out of all the ones I own that I can go back and play time and time again and get the same enjoyment from. The Xtreme Legends games come under a lot of criticism for not actually changing anything too much, but for me I found this game more than worth the money I paid for it.
One of the strongest points of this game is that it keeps the old gameplay from DW3, which many consider the best in the series. It gives new missions for the 7 unaligned characters that you couldn't use in musou mode in DW3. It does use the old maps and just moves the soldiers around on it, but nevertheless the new missions are refreshing.
My personal favourite thing from this game is the new Very Hard difficulty. It provides more of a challenge without being cheap, if you get beaten it's not because you are being hit from nowhere. The characteristic archers are still there (and in some levels will have more health than you) and can still fire through people when you have your back turned, but for the most part they aren't quite as annoying as in DW3.
There are now 5th weapons for every character. In some cases these are vast improvements over DW3 (Yuan Shao's 5th weapon gives him the fire element, attack and defense that his 4th didn't have) but some of them are worse (Gan Ning's 5th weapon loses the electricity and the musou charge, which was invaluable). Other people's are just as good as their 4th, but trying to get 5th weapons requires you to play on the Very Hard difficulty and require you to do missions varying from getting 1000 kills to killing people in a certain order or saving someone.
For the cynics among you, there isn't really terribly much new. The maps are all the same, just moved around, there are no new characters, some items aren't all that handy, some 5th weapons aren't great and the game is still basically a hack and slash.
To get the most out of this game you need to have DW3. When you start DW3:XL and load up your data, you will have all the characters, weapons and items that you had before, and also to get most 5th weapons you need to do it on a DW3 map. Only the 7 unaligned characters, Zhang Liao and Zhang He's 5th weapons are available to get on just DW3:XL. So if you don't have DW3 it's not really worth getting this game.
Having said all that, this game has a certain "X factor" in it which I can't quite pinpoint. This is the only game that I play time and time again no matter what mood I'm in, that's why I've given this game 5 out of 5. |

THE GOOD:
this game is basically the DW3 game, only with a few new features, so let me say what I said for DW3, and then I'll add the things this game added. This is easily one of the best games ever made, and since it's creation it's been incredibly hard to be improved. The story (a true story mind you) is incredibly good, and exciting. The Characters are as different, diverse, and unique as they come each one is extremely cool. The Fighting is some of the best I've ever seen. It's really easy to just pick this up and play a level or two in a few minutes, while still having tons of fun. The levels are all different and fun in their own ways. The graphics are incredible, and the fmvs are all fun to watch. The voice acting is moderately good too. and also, the music is superb. Above all this game has a certain feel to it, that can't be described easily, but is very easy to see and feel. This game added to all that by includine the ability to play through the stories of the characters in the "others" catagory, and while maybe this isn't enough of an improvement to convince some people to buy this after already having DW3, it still makes this a great game on it's own.THE BAD:
Like before: Eventually the levels and characters become boring, but by the time they do, teh next DW game comes out, and it's time to switch, this game's sequel took a while to come along and save us fans, but on it's own, looking back, this game really was great. But at least this time there is a bit more than in DW3, meaning it takes longer to get bored of it all. SUMMARY:
Like before: This is a superb fighting game for anyone with a PS2 to enjoy. Nothing about this game is terribly complicated, making it easy for any kind of gamer to try it out. Give this a shot if you've got the green. And this time there's more to it, making it more replayable. |

THE GOOD:
just about everythingTHE BAD:
Just the way some of the characters vanish and the game kinda slows down when you and a second player do a muosou attack. SUMMARY:
This is one the best games and most additve games on ps2 i have ever played. Playing this and you wont want to stop. But sooner or later the game gets a little boring if you play it too much. And if you dont have dynasty warriors 3 disc then you cant bring out the full potential of the game. The graphics are great the sound is great as well. The game is challenging too. Ttrying to get the 5th weapons is really hard. The only problem is the way people just vanish when your fighting them. It gets annoying when you're fighting a general and they vanish then the appear behind you and hack your back up. This game is a 5.0 but without the dw3 disc its a 4.0 |

THE GOOD:
-5th weapons !
-New combo system tests your skills
-Very hard mode for those who think they master the arts
-New items to expand the horizon of DW3
-Less than your average PS2 game, only $30 !
-New musou modes for 7 more unaligned charactersTHE BAD:
-Little bit of FPS slow down
SUMMARY:
KOEI did a good job with the new musou.They added comedy to some musou modes and suprises to keep players into the game.Overall, if you have DW3 you will have alot of more fun. |

THE GOOD:
More/Better story line, More Weapons/Items, New!! (Very Hard and Very Easy) only 29.99 bucks hard to raise Bodyguards but stronger. (3rd and new weapons for Bodygaurds). THE BAD:
Too Hard at times. (Very Hard not reccomended to begginers) 5th weapon are sometime impossible to get.
Also have to put in the dynasty warriors 3 disc in everytime to play.so if possible dont turn it off! SUMMARY:
This Hack in Slash game has taken the story line of a ancient Chinese writer and read the the book I really recommend it but just playing the game will tell you a lot. except the fact that you need Dynasty Warriors 3 to actually play this game I say this game i almost perfect. Also according to the gamers and Koei Dynasty Warriors 4 will be coming soon at end of March so try not to waste your money and wait but if you cant wait like me and a lot of people then go out there and buy it. Also graphic hasn't changed much Oh!!! New clothing for all characthers!!! highlight and press L2 or R2. |

At times, almost too challenging. SUMMARY:
For a lot of mainstream gamers, with the attention span of a knife handle, this game won't put much of an impression on them. Although, for those of us who are true diehard fans of the series, this game will serve as a way to make the weeks go by like days, KO after KO, until the next installment's release in March. |
