PS2 DRIV3R- Good Game, Bad Game? You Decide 4.0

THE GOOD:
Variety Of Missions
Interesting Storyline
Decent Graphics
Undercover Cop!

THE BAD:
Controls
Shooting/Aiming
Some Overly Difficult Missions
Just Not That Good After Playing GTA San Andreas

SUMMARY:
Once again a brilliant and gripping storyline. One where you see Tanner getting into all sorts of problems and also one where you see him getting out of them in very interesting ways.
Then you have the very good graphics, with most things drawn in very good detail, apart from certain boats. There are a few boats around which Tanner cannot drive, (annoying but fair enough) however when they make those boats look like some sort of square it looks very stupid. However the Graphics remain a cut above.
With the many missions there is a very good chance of the game becoming repetitive, this does not happen. The missions are constantly varying from you doing naughty things for the baddies!! Or for the good old good guys!! The fact you are an undercover cop through all this makes the game quite exciting. But then we come to difficulty; some of the missions are just too hard, not a good addition.
The controls are OK in themselves, it's just moving about. You are forced to use both analogue sticks which is fairly common. However, usually you use one to move and one to look around. In DRIV3R the left stick is used for moving forward and back but you can only strafe left and right with that stick. Which can become annoying.
You are forced to manual aim throughout the game and with the dodginess of the controls that becomes another annoying part of the game. This may be an attempt at realism but it definitely has not worked.
Then there is the simple matter of the game just not being as good as GTA San Andreas.
But this is my opinion. Good Game? Bad Game? Both? You decide.

THE GOOD:
Well, the graphics and car phisics are pretty good, the take a ride mode with cheats is really fun.

THE BAD:
Bad AI, The missions are crap, the aiming is crap, the phisics are horrible, the greaphics suck, the glitches are pretty horrible. some fun though. The fact that you can be underground in a building and the cops still see you when your above ground. The game defies the laws of phisics.

SUMMARY:
DRIV3R has been left in the dust, the driving the cars part was ok, unfortuanitly, its the best part of the game. When you walk you look like a high school brace face with a horriblelife, you jump like there is a anchor in your pants, And the cops see you as long as your in their white veiw on the map. too much time and money spent on lousy cinimatics, and poor gameplay. although the take a ride mode is kinda fun, but when your in the car, instead of affecting the car only, it affects your health too!!! thats just crap....

- I shoudn've have bought it

PS2 GTA's New Competition 3.4

THE GOOD:
-New Cars and Areas
-Better Graphics
-The ability to swim
-Now, you can get out of the car when Police chase you
-More guns now

THE BAD:
-Gets kinda boring
-Kind of the exact same thing as GTA
-Gun aim is bad!
-Missions are too hard and seem to be the same thing over and over
-Sound Effects aren't the best

SUMMARY:
This game is a very good game. It has alot of improvements from The Original Driver Series. It has alot of the same things that GTA has though, but it is a good thing for Driver.

Alot of things are better now, like the cars and areas. The graphics are great, unlike Driver 2, thewy are a bit better than GTA Vice City, but with San Andreas coming out, Driv3r shouldn't be around long. It does have a good thing that GTA doesn't, you can now swim. And the new thing to Driver now, you can get out of the car when the Police come, unlike Driver 2.

But it does have alot of flaws. The Sound Effects aren't the best, like when swimming, there are NO sounds for that, and when you start to drive a car, it makes a totally loud noise. The gun aim is hard also, you'll find yourself getting shot, while trying to shoot the enemy. The missions seem to be the same everytime and seem to be the same genre over and over. The game seems like a "Special Edition" Copy of GTA and the Game Overall gets boring after awhile.

PS2 Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. 4.5

THE GOOD:
Most things...
It's a great change when your bored of gta, and a good competiter too.
You can swim

THE BAD:
Glitches (although they can be truely hilarious)
Glitches
Glitches (I was trying to think of more but it turned out to be a glitch)
Too much detail in places that don't need it.

SUMMARY:
You either love it or hate it.
Personally I love it.

Driv3r could have been alot better in places, only in places mind.
I have a decent point to start with, it's pretty random though.
In each of the three huge and highly detailed levels there are a 10 'Timmy Vermicellis' which you have to kill in order to unlock different game modes and cheats, each 'Timmy' is dressed up to look like Tommy from gta, each Timmy wears arm bands, mocking the fact that in gta you can't swim. JUst thought I'd point that out.

The graphics in Driv3r are great, apart from ridiculous glitches that shouldn't have been over looked.

The cops are kind of stupid and will even brake the rules of gravity to get you, extremly vicious, I had one flying to get me.
If you steel cars the owners may get angry and have guns, or you just get the occational stressy-bum who'll just come running after you (it's not like thier cars wern't made to be stolen).
Take-a-ride mode is the mode in which you as an undercover cop can do whatever you want, see gta, apart from you can swim! Wooo!

This wasn't exatly a great review but you really need to play it to know.
Rent it more than once, I'd say about 3 times untill you know for certain that you like it or hate it. I know it has gotten some very good reviews indeed, although some reviews didn't give it such a healthy score. But for me, a nice 9/10 will do.

THE GOOD:
FMV Sequences. Creating a movie scene is cool. Graphics are good. Like the cities. And the soundtrack is unique and not boring such as some others, but it could just be that this is the only entertaining thing about this game.

THE BAD:
All the rest. Glitches are everywhere so don't think you are getting into a car without a person walking over your head, literally. Um let's see, oh yeah everything you pretty much wanted in the game, they don't have. And lest us not forget about the 25 cars limit per level. I mean c'mon you could at least have tried to get it to mach the girth of Vice City's 120 car limit, but this is sad, real sad.

SUMMARY:
Buy it used. Save your money for GTA San Andreas, and GT4. If you buy this game new, well you are gonna kick yourself in the, well you know. And save yourself the embarassment from going into the store and asking for this game.

PS2 Frustratingly frustrating.... 2.0

THE GOOD:
FMV scenes, great sized cities

THE BAD:
Well, where do i start....

SUMMARY:
I bought this game like many others in the hope that this would be similar to Vice City but better - how wrong was I.

For a start, so much for the car's being realistic in handling and i'd like to thank god that Atari don't build motor vehicles as we'd all be dead by now! Now I pride myself on being able to drive well but the car's in some missions handled worse than a jelly on a three wheeled skateboard, there wasn't ONE car I felt confident in when it came to turning a corner and on the last but one mission, I fishtailed for about 10 seconds before being able to regain control of the car! Before you all think this is about the vehicles, i'll move on.

As mentioned in other posts, the FMV is fantastic but difficult to understand who is who and you get a vague objective of the mission and where it is all leading. I finished the game in just under a week and realised I was following a gang of car theives all the way to Istanbul - and that was it as far as the depth of the story went.

The Undercover mode is very linear and to be honest the chase's were very difficult at times and i've never in any game had to try the same chase sequence more than 5/6 times before completing it unlike in this game. I know the game is called "Driv3r" and I expected good driving skills to be involved but when the car's don't handle it makes for a very frustrating time indeed.

......Oh yeah, and just when you think you're doing so well, these so called realistic handling cars always seem to be attracted to lampposts? Surely I wasn't the only one to suffer such cruelty in a chase mission!

Other gripes about the game are the glitches but I think every game has a few in so not much to moan about there. The cities were vast but unlike Vice City, i didn't feel the need to roam about (in Take A Ride) and explore as it all seemed, well, pretty boring, and it didn't make me feel submerged into the atmosphere of the game. I hated the fact that when I blew vehicles up and killed police etc (just for a bit of a rampage) you were all alone and no cars or police stormed to the action but when you drove off, the police were all over your tail.

WHAT, NO MONORAIL TO RIDE ON?? Ok, well maybe they didn't want to emulate VC but what is the point of putting it there if you can't utilise it?

I can't see what all the fuss was about with this game, ok, the car's have realistic damage and you can swim to survival if you can't distinguish a freeway to an ocean but lets not forget - this game is a wannabe Vice City and it never has or will live up to it's expectations.

In summarisation, i'd say that this game is living in the shadow of V.C to this day even though V.C was out last year - GTA is original and refreshing and unfortunatly Driv3r is poor in comparison.

Bring on San Andreas - peace out.....

PS2 Disapointing...but not completely 2.9

THE GOOD:
- Beautiful Cities
- Amazing Graphics
- Realistic car handling
- Take-a-Ride mode
- Indoor locations
- Gameplay

THE BAD:
- It's no GTA
- Terrible storyline/cutscenes
- Glitchy
- Game freezing (occationally)
- Lack of character information/background

SUMMARY:
DRIV3R is no GTA, or even Getaway for that fact, but it is still worth a look, or rental if your undecided.
The major downfall of this game is the terrible cutscenes and storyline. There are major gaps in the story line, and although the grphics in the cutscenes were awesome, the lack of dialog made mission transitions confusing, and difficult to follow. Also the lacking is character information and background makes the cutscenes hard to follow, because (atleast for me) half the time I didn't know who was actually in the cutscene. It doesnt help that only 4 out of the 10 or so characters are in the game manual included with the game.
DRIV3R does have several good points however, but unfortunately they can't out weight the bad. The take-a-ride mode is detailed and will keep you playing the game past undercover mode. Almost all (and then some) of the indoor locations you visit during missions are open for t-a-r mode (see my guide on t-a-r locations) which makes it interesting. The addition of Timmy Vermicelly's and secret cars will also keep you on the hunt. Unfortunately, for those who liked the addition of turn signals in Driver1, they have been removed (yes, I know its stupid, but it was fun)
The graphics and gameplay match, or even beat that of VC. With the exception of game freezing (rare, but it has happened to me...twice) and glitches, the graphics and gameplay certainly out do VC.
DRIV3R also out do's VC in the ways of swimming ability and 18-wheelers WITH trailers.
Overall this game has its major downfalls, which unfortunately aren't small enough to overlook when your playing the game, however it does have many many good features, and is certainly work a look, or second look if your thinking about buying. And if in doubt, rent the game and decide for yourself.

THE GOOD:
i thought that the take a ride was alot more fun expecially as you could use a lorry with a trailer. when you go on nice there are alot of small windy roads which can be alot of fun more so when you have the cops on your tail

THE BAD:
the only bad thing in this game is that if you take a ride and choose the lorry (45ft) there are no other units if you smash yours up so you have to start again.

SUMMARY:
i found that some o fthe missions were quite difficult but i cmopleted the game in one week. i found all the hidden cars within an hour. take a ride was alot better than driver 2 well what i can remember about it. if you like a good drive around to smash cars, cops chase you, alot of firepower than this is the game for you.
i never used cheats on this game but if u need them then neeoseeker is the sit for you driver 3 is now the best good/bad cop game but wait till gta4 comes out then we will see!

PS2 lame sequel, could of been tons better. 1.5

THE GOOD:
~Great movie like FMV's
~Nice cars
~Music
~Thats it
~Well story is ok

THE BAD:
~In game graphics are horrible, makes you feel like youre playing Driver 2
~Ultra lame car physics~
Tanners body dosnt flow well with the motorcyle, or most veichles, makes him look like a doll on wheels
~Horrible and boring cities
~Shooting is boring
~Missions are repetitive
~Extreeeemly glitchy
~Seems like a lame attempt to match GTA

SUMMARY:
The game
I got back from blockbuster, after fighting over the tv I pop'd the game into my PS2. At first glance the game looks really good. The main screen and menu setup is very well done, very clean and tighty. I then go to undercover and new game. An FMV comes on and I'm awed at the amazing graphics. So first mission comes in, I have to go to the police station, but as soon as the screen showes Tanners house it feels shady, messy and Tanners horrific walking dosnt help it any. So I get in the car thats in the garage, gun it and when I'm slightly turning out of the alley the car makes a crazy and exagerated fish tale. So I get there, after driving for a bit the cars on the street feel repetitive; saw no more than 5 kinds of cars. Go to the shooting range and pop out my niner... I try aiming at the figures but the crosshairs and the feel of the analog feel horrible, kinda like using an SNES directional pad.

I only got towards the end of Nice but I was frustrated with the game at that point.

Sound and Music
I thought the music in the game was quite good, thing is there is no music during the actual game, so driving from one point to another feels boring and tiresome. The car sound effects were done quite nicely, but needed more variety

Controls
Controls are awfull in the game, they feel like you are using one directional pad instead of two analog sticks. The handbrake button was placed in an inconvinient position. Other than that the controls are very familiar to GTA's

Worth buying?
No, its worth renting but defenitly not a buyer. Your better off paying 20 bucks for the latest GTA:VC than 50 for a game that not so mutch tried to imitate it but to rival it
