THE GOOD: 1. Ability to create a character. 2. Ability to choose a girlfriend 3. The many match modes available. 4. The songs you unlock are a rap fan's heavenTHE BAD: 1. Extremely short storyline. 2. User cannot create a girl in Story Mode. 3. Inability to change girlfriends more than once. SUMMARY: This game is one of the only games I did not get bored of. Many game modes including Window, Subway and demolition modes are included. Ability to play with up to 4 players. This game has a great storyline and potential for much more. Any hardcore gamer could have finished this game in 1-2 days easily, I however took a month to finish it.
The game overall is amazing, easily a unique and one of the best console fighting games for Playstation. The Storyline is basically that you rescue a gang leader called D-mob from the police and join his crew, from there on things get a little more complicated and I will not spoil the fun for you. The only thing that I did not like about this game is that the story mode is extremely short and that there were not enough FMVs, other than that this game is almost perfect. |

Def Jam is da shiznit | 4.6 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Lots of rappers Violent Brawling Brilliant graphics Great voice-overs Good story mode Create a wrestler at last Plenty of customisationTHE BAD: You can complete story mode quickly Some annoying people No DMX SUMMARY: Def Jam: Fight for NY is one of the best fighting games on the PS2 machine. It feature some bloody, violent fighting from the offset.
Remember Def Jam Vendetta, that generic wrestling game with a few rappers at it's side? Well Aki have taken a different approach to it and made it that you fight in underground fight clubs and there is more interactivity with the environments. The actual fighting mechanics are very simliar to the last game but you really need to do the brutal stuff to KO your opponent. You can now let the crowd have some action by whipping your opponent into them and unleash some double team moves. The crowd also hand you weapons like bottles, bats, metal bars or even snooker cues. They all feel like that they're doing some serious damage. Using the environment is also key to winning. If you grapple while you opponent is on a wall you can do some damage. The Blazin' moves return. They are basicly the rappers finshers. They look really cool.
That isn't the only thing that looks cool. The whole game looks great! To the rappers actually look like their real-life counter parts and the twinkles on the bling or ice you might call it.
Most of the rapper from Vendetta are still here (Apart from DMX. Tsk.) but there are accompanied by even more. Warren G, Flava Flav, Sticky Fingaz and even the Doggfather Snoop Dogg himself are all in here and a lot more.
The story mode is good and you can also create your own character to take part in the brawlin'. You can complete it quickly if you are dedicated.
Def Jam: Fight for NY is what you call a great fighting game and is a bit different from all those other generic beat 'em ups out there. |

THE GOOD: The characters all have really cool moves, awesome finishers, great storyline, features a wrestling/street fighting type of gameplay, grapics are excellentTHE BAD: same storyline for every character, storyline gets rather boring when you are trying to complete it with everyone SUMMARY: Def Jam Vendetta: FFNY is a fighting game like no other. You could say its a mix of Tekken, Smackdown, and some elements of The Bouncer. It revolves around the main Def Jam characters such as N.O.R.E, Method Man, Redman, and Ludacris (as featured in the first game). The gameplay, or fighting I should say is phenomenal. There are many cool and interesting moves to use, and not to mention the finishers, which every character has. The graphics never failed to look amazing since they were made almost to perfection. I love every aspect of this game because of the fact that its really fun to play with your friends, or if you're just playing one player mode for the fun of it.
I would definetly say to buy this game, because its really fun. There are lots of unlockables and other stuff that you can get, so it will keep you entertained for quite some time. A very fun game, I must say. |

Def Jam Fansite! | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: First-Ever Def Jam Fansite: http://www.webquad.com/defjam
From Robert Thomas: From what I have seen from the venue, "The Foundation," there is actual real time damage, crowd interaction, crowd reactions, polls get destroyed at different levels, and at the worst stage of a polls life span a chunk of debris can be used as a weapon. This game is absolutely incredible. Even crowd members can hand you ball bats, stereo equipment can be smashed, and smashed again! Flood lights can be shattered with a fighter's skull and the entire lighting of the foundation suddenly changes - that's called real-time lighting folks! Crowd members allow you to do double combos and the moves are limitless. I haven't seen a repeat in the crowd combos yet! Well done EA! The fighters of Def Jam, to say the least, are some of the roughest, cruelest, and dirtiest seen in the fighting games. And that is definitely a good thing. Who would have thought that such a world of rap artists mixed with various fighting styles within interactive venues would work? Well, it worked beautifully. There are a total of 70 fighters in Def Jam Fight For NY, not including the Create-A-Street-Fighter-Feature."
Scattered around the city are 20 clubs and out-of-the-way locations that include everything from destructible objects to rowdy spectators who hand you weapons like bats, bottles, and pipes. At 125th Street Station you can throw your opponent into trashcans, newsstands, and soda machines. Even better, you can toss him onto the subway tracks. In a venue like The Foundation, there are breakable support-beams and spectators that hold your opponent back while you pummel him or join in on a double team.
Yes, Def Jam is so popular that it has made it in such magazines as the "Official Xbox Magazine." Such exposure means that this game simply ROCKS! And the graphics...the graphics...oh my they are the best seen anywhere! THE BAD: To be bluntly honest, there is nothing wrong. This game, however, is for skilled players. You have to know what the styles are, what your doing, and you'll be fine. This is a HUGE game! Just Plain Awsome!! | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Ever seen a rapper on MTV u just wanted to beat the crap out of? Well this is your chance!! Just straight up street fighting, with blood, weapons, music, girls and bling bling lol. The Story mode is awsome, a hell of a lot more freedom than the first one.THE BAD: The combo thing is kinda tedious from time to time. Having to remember the right combination etc. isn't something u could really give a crap about when ur smearing some rapper's brains onto the canvas. SUMMARY: The 2nd instalment to one of EA's most original beat'em ups. After playing a few hours of this game, its quite obvious the 1st game isn't always the best in the series. With the additional venues and fighters, theres more ways of wasting ur time in front of the television. The added Create a fighter option may not be original in this genre, but the way u can edit them is! From Headgear to rings u can fiddle around with almost everything, possibly one of the best use of the create a fighter option within the beat'em up genre. Its nice to also see that ur fighter isn't a mute for once and with a choice in how they sound, adding to this games originality. The simplicity of the controls makes the game more enjoyable, as you can pick up a controller and start beating away without browsing through the manual to find how to move. I may not be the first to say it, but this game is great!! If you wanna get a beat'em up this year make this your first choice, you will not regret it!! |

An Excellent Stress Reliever | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: well whenever I have a rough day I just play Def Jam to make my rought day into an excellent day cause my stress is gone!SUMMARY: straight up street fighting and it's like the real world. I would have to say one hell of a great game for everybody over 18. Survival of the Fittest is what the game is about just like the streets of Real Life. I mean you have choices to make and you also increase your fighter during the story I mean hell they got alot of excellent rappers there and there are some that I don't like so what I would do is beat them down quickly and fast. The FIighting scene is tough and I'm enjoying the challenge of the fights. Using enviroments as a weapon is extremely great and the crowd jumping in that's even excellent. I just Simply love the game congrats EA Games you still have me as your fan. |
