THE GOOD:
-- Great Graphics -- Incredible Sound effects -- 50 different Licensed Planes -- Nice Storyline, Including over 30 missions. -- Wingman Commands -- Nice Speical Effects -- Radio chatter -- Replay

THE BAD:
-- Wingman Commands could be better -- Possibly of each plane having diffrent fight models -- Needs Online -- Couldnt find 2 player or co-op mode -- Ablibty to buy weapons of your choice -- Campaign needs to be a lot longer -- Could have more Simulation Qualities

SUMMARY:
The 5th Installment to the Ace Combat series, by Namco will have you tearing through the skies in a nicely detailed landscape and high detailed aircraft. With more then 50 different aircraft to choose from, this arcade style flight game is sure to have your heart pumping. Complete in Arcade mode for all out blow em up, shoot em down action, or take to the skys in the story mode as you defend your native country of Osea from the forces of the neighboring country of Yuktobana in a immersive campaign. The overall game play is much like the pervious titles. It has some simulation, but it is mostly arcade style gameplay. The controls are easy to grasp, which is good for first timers to the series. The graphics and what I like to call spiecal effects were very good. From the highly detailed aircraft to the ships and landscape. Something that I noticed when I was done with my frist mission, was the replay mode. It was fantastic, you can change your views, and which aircraft you are viewing(your wingman and yourself). The one effect that I really liked was the Sound Barrier effect. If you have ever seen an aircraft in real life break the sound barrier, usually there is a vapor type mist that forms around the plane as they hit mach 1. In AC5 as you break it, there is acually a vapor that appears around your plane. That was neat for me, because I have played a lot of aircraft games, on PS2 and PC, and this is the first to date I have ever seen sound barrier effect implemented, its a nice touch to the game. The wing tip and g force vapor is also a nice touch. The sounds in the game are great. The jet sounds are perfect, and the explosions sound are dead on. However they could have made the afterburner sound better. The radio chatter was nice, but I would prefer more voices that sound like fight pilots who are dogfighting and not talking. Overall is this a game arcade flight game. I do not call it a flight simulation, because there isnt many simulation points. You get 99 missiles, unlimted guns, and each aircraft feels the same on the way it handles and turns. But it does have some simulation, as you have to lock on, and dogfight with the gunsight, and using the UGB Bombsight. If you are a hardcore Action gamer, and want some high speed action, this game is for you(buy the game). If your a hardcore fight simulation gamer, this game might not be what you want. However it does have amazing grahpics.(Rent first). Overall I give Ace Combat 5: The Unsung war a 4 out of 5

THE GOOD:
Wingman Command!
Tons of planes!
Awesome graphics!
Great cutscenes!
A lot of good voice acting!
Very interesting mission ideas!
Arcade had my knuckles white!
Sweeeet secret planes!
Cool unlockables!

THE BAD:
Some...odd...voice acting.
Some missions are too drawn out.
No 2-player feature.
No online feature.
Shouldn't have to buy planes for your wingmen.
Replays need to be more realistic.
Why isn't there an opening scene on start-up?

SUMMARY:
When I rented 'Ace Combat 5 The Unsung War', I was very excited. I played it for an entire week! I liked the menu ideas, and the music was good. Arcade Mode was the first thing I played on it, which, like I said, was very adrenalizing. I liked how it continued the story of Mobius 1, but should have included aircraft select. After that I continued to Campaign Mode, which had a jaw-dropping and slightly tear-jerking opening movie. When I watched it, I was eager to begin my play. The first mission was cool. The second mission was cool. The third mission was cool. So was the fourth, and so on...I got impatient waiting for Wingman Command to kick in, but it was worth the wait! I went on to play the entire game through. I absolutely loved the final scenes and music. So, in my opinion, it was a game to remember!
I may have left out a few things in 'THE GOOD' but you guys should know, eh?

Like the game said, Nothing Else Comes Close

THE GOOD:
Over 30 environments/Missions, each one the same size or bigger than the entire environment of GTA San Andreas! Gorgeous graphics that when flying in the clouds will amaze you. Digitally animated cut scenes that will blow you away with their vibrant colours and awesome audio.

THE BAD:
Still too short unfortunately, the game truly is awesome, but completing it was just to quick.

SUMMARY:
If you loved the previous games, there's no doubt you'll love this one.

If you haven't played any of the previes games, don't worry, you don't need to have played them to understand the storyline of this game. You'll find yourself engrossed in this games depthly storyline with truly stunning video scenes.

I recommend this game to any fan of the previous games and any person who enjoys flying games or who just want to live the "Top Gun" experience.

THE GOOD:
+ New Planes.
+ Wingman(Even though I take the kills).
+ Improved graphics.
+ Better Storyline.
+ Upgrading Jets.
+ Distinctive missions.
+ Longer than the original.
+ A and B missions.
+ I love the extra points for take-off and landing.
+ Smart Squadron.
+ Closest to real out of all aircraft games(second to Ace Combat 4).
+ Great with the Jet Game Controller(It costs $130 though)

THE BAD:
-Needs more detailed land graphics.
-Can't switch special weapon.
-Needs Sensitivity control for the throttle button because it felt like I was pushing my R1 button too hard.
-I would have loved Co-op mode.
-I really would like online tournaments, co-op missions, and just plane all-out huge dog-fights.

SUMMARY:
Not too far from Ace Combat 4 and not too close to it. Pretty close to perfect except for the graphics for the land but it is improved from the original. It is one of the best aircraft fighter game I've ever played. No the best, the most realistic jet game, ever.

THE GOOD:
Awesome Graphics
Loads of real planes
Well balanced difficulty levels
Good story
Decent Replayability
Unlockable paint schemes
Wingmen
Good AI especially on harder difficulty levels

THE BAD:
Mission variety, some seem a little too similar
Can't buy weapons
Wingman commands aren't very well executed, could be better and have more options/commands.
Could of added a few more levels

SUMMARY:
A really well designed game. The best in the genre by far. It has a story good enough to keep you playing your first time through, and then you want to play thru again for the paint schemes, unlockable plane, and finding all the aces to fight. Not to mention the challenge of a harder difficulty to test your skills.
Very large selection of planes to buy and all of them real. The gameplay is fast and furious as should be in this genre, and the soundtrack keeps the blood pumping. This game is worth buying for anybody who likes action and approachable for anyone who hasn't played the series yet engaging enough for skilled players of previous games and plenty of difficulty levels. Not only one of the best action games out right now, but one of the best games of the year.

THE GOOD:
*Wingmen can be controled now, and they are definetly less *bleep*ed as they used to be. They can be a big help in either doing the mission themselves or protect you so you can do it yourself.
*The ultimate plane selection of all time
*Great feel to the gameplay
*Graphics are insanely awesome

THE BAD:
*Studders when everything's going on at one; atleast on my PS2, the oldest version
*Mission styles for the most part are the same as the other games in the series
*No more costom loadouts

SUMMARY:
Don't believe them when they say the storyline is dynamic: there are two splits, one in the middle and one near the end. The first split makes two missions different while the second split makes one mission different.

Weather isn't dynamic either. It's beautiful, but it doesn't change inflight.
