THE GOOD: -Creative storyline -Fluid gameplay -Solid map design -Cinema-worthy cutscenesTHE BAD: -Storyline seems almost cheaply broken from past titles -Music, though good, sometimes seems unfitting SUMMARY: Ah, the Twisted Metal series. As of now the longest-running Playstation-only series, revives on the Playstation 2 in the form of Twisted Metal: Black, a much darker, and surprisingly more insane re-imagining of the game.
Where there were once light, reality-based maps, there are now dark, almost gothic fictional maps. Where there were once comedic, ironic, stereotype characters with amusing background stories, there are now psychotic inmates from an asylum. The best part of all this is that none of it is tacked on, and it is an effective re-imagination. Every aspect of this game feels frightening and dark, from the meticulous and creative storyline, to the screams heard in-game, to the choice of music. It is much darker as a whole than any other title in the series and more so than most games in general.
One thing this game does have in common with previous titles is the great map design, each map being full of secrets and little things to do, traps, effective weapons, new characters, etcetera. Another thing is that the characters themselves are actually from previous title, but simply re-imagined. While this is done effectively, it does bring me to the point that it seems a bit cheap, and though I may be a bit biased (I am), it's disappointing to those who have been fans of the series long before playing Black. In general though, it's quite interesting and effectively adds to the dark atmosphere.
As for the aspects that have considerably less impact on the quality of a game (But are often give much importance anyway, hence why they are mentioned), graphical quality and music; for its time of release, this game had top of the line graphics, the best so far in fact. The best part of this is that they feel so unmistakeably 'Twisted Metal' in presentation. The music is also very nice, and I particularly enjoy the creepy menu music, but on the other hand it is also a bit distracting and feels misplaced in-game. It probably will not bother you much, but I feel it is worth mentioning.
Gameplay-wise, TM:B is arguably more solid than ever, presenting a wonderfully fluid and fast paced style of gameplay that is true to the series. The game, though presenting more difficulty in each level than previous titles, is fairly easy due to having your lives restored at the beginning of each level. Still, at the highest difficulty you may still have some trouble.
Overall, a great game that presents very much entertainment and will give you some good hours of fun, preferably with another play. 4.4/5 |

THE GOOD: Great multiplayer mode. Fun game. Good sound and tracks. Best graphics for a Twisted Metal game.THE BAD: Fairly short lifespan. Average single-player mode. Lacks of extras or unlockables. Average graphics. Game is quite dark. SUMMARY: Twisted Metal makes it's debut on the PS2 with Twisted Metal: Black. Twisted Metal: black lets you choose a car, and then battle it out with other cars, using all kinds of weapon mayhem, including rocket launchers, machine guns and level based weapons to help you destroy your opponents.
The single player mode consists of 8 levels and although fun, the mode wears off rather quickly. However, it's the multiplayer mode where Twisted Metal: Black really shines. Battle with your friends in twenty different arenas, or team up with a friend with Co-op mode. It's a fun mode and gives TM: B a longer lifespan.
The sound in the game is great as well. The sounds of the explosions and fire are loud and really capture you attention.
Ameer's Final Score - 82%
A great multiplayer game for all, though the single player mode is short and lacking in lifespan. If you're interested in the pure multiplayer aspect of the game, buy Twisted Metal: Black Online. |

THE GOOD: Great selection of characters, from the vile Sweet Tooth, to the child-controlled Yellow Jacket. Nice to see a mix od old and new faces in terms of the cars themselves Gameplay - Second to none. Second to none. I have NEVEr played this great in all the Twisted Metals I have played, that being all the original 4. Weapons are varied, have different but equally gut-wrenching effects & damage. Cutscenes are absolutely incredibly realistic, and are better than some films, just for the fact they get their point across plain and easy. Nice soundtrack which accompanies the action. It enhances the battlefield experience.THE BAD:
No sequel after 3 years -_- Not much replay value. After you beat the game with all the characters...just shoot and destroy? Without getting out of your car?
SUMMARY: Well, I am and will always be a huge fan of the Twisted Metal Series, which was actually my first series in my Playstation history. Anyhoo, this particular one was also my first PS2 game ever, so I embraced it with wide-open arms. And I wasn't disappointed. The whole game is a lot more darker and sninister then the other 4. The other 4 had a degree of childish fun in it, I mean the last one had Sweet Tooth running a Carnival. Nice and all, but not exactly Resident Evil Material. With this one. Sweet Tooth is a vicious killer. Yeah. Carnival Clown to Serial Killer is how I state the game in general. Incog said in it's previews I remember, that they were aiming to make this one of the scariest games on the market. They did that and then some. The cutscenes will have you in shock, as you see gratitous violence, your heart rate will go up, and it will haunt you. The sagas of all the characters are simply unbelievable.
But a game is not ridden on solely presentation. No, no no, look at Devil May Cry 2. Good layout but disgusting gameplay. Twisted Metal Black not only has gameplay, but it also has the zigginess that was missing from Twisted Metals 3 and 4, but was in 1 and 2. The environments are simply astounding. They capture the essense of the level, per say the Suburbs level has exactly that - Suburbs! Small houses, signs and empty roads. Same with the city. You'll see skyscrapers, some of which you can go into.
The game truly is a masterpiece. I strongly recommend even casual violence fans of the GTA world to have a peek as what has unfortunately become one of the underlooked gems of the PS2 Crown. |

THE GOOD: This game will completely amaze you compared to the other TM games for PS1. It adds so much onto an already great video game series. Cool characters, great storylines, fun levels, great special attacks, and much more. This game is not an easy one to beat also, so you will get well worth your money. For example, to unlock the final character, Minion, you must beat the storyline with all the characters. And beleive me, there are many. THE BAD: -After awhile you may get bored of this game, but when you return to it, it is just as fun. -There isn't a lot about this game that is bad, which makes it that much better. - So hard
SUMMARY: Twisted Metal Black is the best Twisted Metal game by far. You should buy it as soon as possible, and it has been out for awhile so it should be cheap. You will have so much fun with this game as I did and many others have. I can't wait for a sequel, if there will be one. |

THE GOOD: Good graphics, solid controls, cool vehicles, tough computer A.I.THE BAD: Levels are sometimes a little too big and makes it a chore to try and track down your enemies, some vehicles and their specials could have been improved upon SUMMARY: It is nice to see the Twisted Metal series getting back on track. After TM2, everything started going downhill from there. Now with TM:Black, the darkest, most sinister installment of the series has found a home on the PS2 with solid gameplay and creepy characters who have even creepier backgrounds. Most of the old weapons have returned and there are some new cool ones as well like environmental attacks and satellite missiles. Whether you play against the computer or friend you're up for a good challenge since the computer A.I. is pretty well done and the bosses are tougher than ever.
Any fans who were getting discouraged with the direction the series was heading will definitely need to pick this game up as it everything you are looking for in a Twisted Metal game. |

THE GOOD: Great story, erases TM3 and TM4 from the Twisted Metal universe(thank god), and is the darkest most sadistic game in a LONG time...THE BAD: It gets tough, real togh SUMMARY: The Twisted Metal is back, back in black(you knew it would be said eventually) and in all it's glory. the story line is pulled off wonderfuly and creapely. worth every cent. THE GOOD: Great selection of cars, 4 unlockables (Axel, Warthog, Yellow Jacket, and Minion), great interactive settings, and also a VERY good use of the Rolling Stones' song.THE BAD: No Hammerhead (i loved that thing), and just a tad disturbing with all the weird characters. SUMMARY: although there were a few problems in this game, i would recommend anyone who loved the old Twisted Metal series (1 & 2, 3 & 4 just sucked) to buy this game NOW. you won't regret it. |

THE GOOD: Cars have pros as well as cons, to figure out stratagys to keep your car alive picking up health packets and such is nice. Alongside 4 hidden vehicles.THE BAD: Specials on some of the cars could use some help. SUMMARY: Picking up the old fashioned, fire, power, homing missiles is always the buaety but there is the best part when they put in some more additional items including gas tank, gun upgrade, SAT, Reticle, Zoomy, eviormental pick ups and the special on the car adds to the fun alongside the cars storylines, sweet tooth is still his old self while minions is still in the game as he has been for a long time. This game is fun and should be even better online. Give it a try! |

THE GOOD: Its not kiddie anymore like the others Lots of vechicles Lots of arenas Lots of actionTHE BAD: Story is a little too dark So dark its almost scary SUMMARY: Welcome back Twisted Metal! How so long I've waited for a good game like Twisted Metal:2 World Tour! This is the real Twisted Metal 3. Screw the others. This game has what you like about Twisted Metal and more. More arenas, and more levels. This is the best Twisted Metal I've ever played. I would recommend this for every PS2 owner out there. |
