WWII Online - BattleGround Europe | 1.5 0 comments |
by angriff from , , | Apr 15, 2006 |
THE GOOD: Truly Large World War II European Battle Ground with a sense of producing an overall effort. Worth a test ride or a free weeks subscription.THE BAD: Extremely slow developement that at time seems Helter Skelter and unorganized. Hard to master and some leveling up factors keep you from enjoying all the weapons till you figure out how to keep from dieing by master players and Tanks fireing and bomes hitting your spawn in point. SUMMARY: While this game has been around a very long time it has never met the hype. It is truely the " wargammers dream" but without the developement team to pull it off. Having said that the game has it's addiction points. The ability to sense an enemy attack on a flank then setting up the ambush in a French Panhard Armored Car can make your day after destroying two Panzer IV's and three Infantry transports.
The difficult part of this game is having to wait so long for whatever it is going to be! Really no direction in its effort with a hodge podge of mechanics that mimic actual unit movements but doen't quite get there. "Soon" is the laughable acronymn for the question of when will this or that be done and in game.
Playing the game is something of a challenge even if you do have a fast machine you will be susceptible to changing code and continual patches that always have you looking for your tweaking manual. Yet somehow it keeps your interest if you are a die hard wargamming PvP type gamer.
WWII Online has it "all" air, tanks, infantry, antitank, antiair artillery, changing scenery to fight over. Oh and even a small naval aspect that is albeit a solo model for every country British, French and German. The navy is out of place and the developers have thought it too hard to tackle for over 4 years now. Luckily the Tanks and Planes are not all the same or you could just say forget it.
All in all the game lacks true tactical depth and while some units progress to 1943 such as planes and tanks everthing else seems to be stuck in 1940. This is somewhat disconcerting if you are a land stomper, because your ability to fight increasing faster and more deadly air and tank units that are upgraded through a rudimentary factory system over time, is stuck in first gear.
What this game needs badly is a shot in the arm from Sony or somebody like that with money. The shoestring development team has yet to figure out how to bail from a plane, bail out of a tank or lay a land mine to stop hudreds of tanks from rolling into the single spawn point and shooting you before you can even load the game. But Someday Soon.... you can hope at your 14.99 a month subscription level.

THE GOOD: none, there aint none, not anymore, use to be good points, but no mo no mo.THE BAD: nerfed 109 SUMMARY: Recently CRS has dipped their fingers into the sewers of game ballance, and severely nerfed the only german fighter in the game, THE 109.
Its firepower was reduced by about 90%, yes im serious. And since there are so many planes in the game (planes have more of an effect in this game then the USAF had in the Gulf War), it has seriously swung game ballance into the allied favor. And its been like this for about 3 months now.
This was the 3rd NERFAGE in 6-9 months the german planes have undergone, while allied planes get nothing but improvements to rate of fire, turning capabilities, armor and miscellaneous.
Its either for game ballance or CRS is full of a bunch of incompetant programmers. |

THE GOOD: No huge requiriments for the game, multi-player for up to 200 people.THE BAD: .Graphics suck, horrbie sound, speed, music. There is only like one huge mission avabable. The company plans to stop making all maps and , just stick with the France map. Thats right NO MORE MAPS WHAT A RIPE. The company only sold about 350,000 copies which is very very small in todays PC economy. If the grapichs WERE better, and the sound inproved then ,maybe i would give it a 6 out of 9. And one last thing, the messages take like an our to show up even though i have a 900mhz computer. The A.I in this game ARE THE WORST I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED SUMMARY: DO not, REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. IT costs 30.00 plus 10.00 bucks a month to support online play that 120.00 dollars a year!!!
GO buy: MAx payne, Red Faction, 007: agent under fire or others but please stay away from this low-life game which is s discruss to the PC world! |

Being an extreamly large WWII buff, I was able to get into this game in no time whatsoever. Basically, you will battle your opponents, which can number well into the dozens upon dozens, in an all out war filled with everything from infantry men to tanks. Yes sir, it is a battle of the strategies when it all comes down to it. Be a good general and you will command the winning team, if not, you will loose much more than your rank...
As the era a online game starts to unfold rapidly in front of our eyes, there will no doubt be many games that just throw a shoddy online feature into their game in hopes that people will buy it. WWII Online is not one of these games, there is a well designed mode of play and a very real to life setting and mood that develups during gameplay. Do to the somewhat akwardness of the keyboard the controls can be a bit hard to learn and even harder to master. But they are by no means bad.
Graphically, WWII Online can hold its own against any of the big guns that you hear about, and do to the lack of intrest in it, WWII Online has much less slowdown than that of a Red Faction or a Tribes 2.
If you are in the market for a good action/strategy game that you can match your skill against those of people all around the net, then WWII Online is just the game that you are looking for.

| For the moment, what's saving wwiionline is the fact that it is one of the most immersive game ever. Wanting to run like a madman with one of your friends in a place full of enemy soldiers, hearing the grenades exploding and the rifles firing. Just after that, to take a plane and see the battle going down just below. Moreover, the ambiance is generally good. BUT, it definetly still needs a lot of tweaking and bug-freeing. |

This may be the last game I ever buy (until Metal of Honor; Allied Assult) | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Just plain fantastic!!! I'm having a blast (no pun intended). Action and gameplay are incredible. Must get the game dispite the bugs.THE BAD: Appearantly some folks are having more problems than others. Some people seem to have no problems at all. Some of the bugs mentioned in the review have now been fixed with the new patch 7/25/01. Can't wait for all the little kids playing the game right now to have to go back to school soon. They gripe, are profane, play bad jokes and confuse many with their antics! SUMMARY: You much learn to work together to win. Some folks are clearly better, more organized and lead better than others. The dynamics to this game are too much to mention here. Great, addictive fun that never ends. I have spent several night up unlit 4 or 5 in the morning attacking or defending towns. |

THE GOOD: Crack in a box! This is the most addictive, fun, and engrossing game I have ever played.THE BAD: Steep system requirements, bugs and glitches. SUMMARY: I'll state right now that I'm a WWII buff and have been for years, but this game has me completely hooked even with it's faults. I have been playing PC games for years but not one of them has made me want to do multi-player, this one has in spades! This game forces you into co-operative play and it really works. Halftracks and trucks tow anti-tank guns and carry infantry, planes give you ground support and dogfight in the skys overhead, tanks roll across the map but can't take over cities (only infantry can take over the town capture points). Infantry can hitch a ride on tanks though. You begin to care about what happens to the other players, you want to help them, to win it has to be that way, no one can do it alone. There are play issues. When you run out of ammo you have to respawn, sometimes the capture points won't convert to your side, tanks will take an insane amount of damage. There are numerous clipping problems, the dreaded spinning spawn, driving/running underground, flying tanks, and others. Though there are problems the people at Playnet and Cornered Rat Software are busting their butts to solve problems and add features on a daily basis. World War II online is such a huge undertaking that it is and will be a work in progress. I believe that though the intial launch was a fiasco huge strides have been made and the game is VERY playable! I don't believe that the developers could have ever gotten to a point where the game could have been call complete, ready to ship. There is just to much content to be constantly added and the virtual battlefield constantly expanding to have and end point. There is so much that can and will be added you feel like your part of something bigger, you get to watch the metamorphosis of something not attempted before. The virtual battlefield does exist! My recommendation is buy this game! If you like FPS, co-operative play, war games, and long hours at your monitor you will love this game! Just be patient it's only going to get better and better, then you will be able to say you were there at the beginning. |

THE GOOD: Excellent Game play. Lot's of action, all within a realistic model. Lot's of fun fighting over towns and bases.THE BAD: Lot's of bugs. (TO be expected with such a large venture) SUMMARY: Bottom line: World War II online rocks!!!! It combines 3 of my favorite games into one. Flight sim, tank sim, and first person shooter. Each, not highly complex, but not just a morons game either. Have the option of jumping in and fighting or planning attacks into enemy towns and bases.
Also, although I would agree that $10 a month is a bit high, it is no rip off. It takes an extremely large set of resources to put a production like this on. And remember. They are a business. They are trying to make money!!!!!
If you don't like that, move to a communist country!!! |
