Ah, the review for the game of a forum I've moderated for years, World of Warcraft may very well be the best MMORPG that has ever been released. With a rich tradition from the Warcraft series and elements taken out of other Blizzard games, such as Diablo, World of Warcraft came about with a lot of fanfare from the fans of the series. However, the game itself quickly transcended the Warcraft and Blizzard fanbase and has now gone on to be one of the best selling games of all-time.

As with most other MMO's (massively multiplayer online games), there are so many details to go into that there's no way this review can be less than gigantic and still be helpful in determining whether you wish to purchase this original WoW game or not. I'll start with an overview before I go into my usual review format since there are so many...

THE GOOD:

SUMMARY:
Gameplay

Very easy to use, I was a first time player of this type of game and I found it quite easy to control the character and look through the menu's at the same time with ease, as well as chatting in-game. At first when I heard about this game, I thought that it wasn't going to be my type of game and that I'd get bored of it quickly, but the simple gameplay and easy to use menu's got me interested.

Graphics

I'm not an expert on this genre of game, so I can't compare it's graphics to other games. But I can say that I am realy impressed with the graphics of the game, especially for an online game. Also the style of graphics in my opinion totally suit the game, almost cartoon like. But it...

THE GOOD:
Amazing graphics
Great sound effects and soundtrack
Thousands of quests to do
Customizable characters
Excellent quest system
Add-ons

THE BAD:
Not free to play
Many identical quests

SUMMARY:
Graphics
World of Warcraft has the best graphics I've ever seen in a MMORPG. The environment's quality contributes to the general feeling of the warcraft universe.
Graphics Score 5/5

Sound
The sound effects in this game are simply wonderful. As for the soundtrack, what else could you expect of a Blizzard game? Every tune, every melody, everything has its place and everything fits together perfectly.
Sound Score 5/5

Gameplay
The thousands of quests can definitely keep you busy for a lot of time. The bad thing about them is that many quests look the same, meaning, you have to do similar tasks. For example, many quests involve killing monsters in order to get specific...

THE GOOD:

THE GOOD:
The graphics are very well done and the gameplay keeps you interested.

THE BAD:
Servers often crash, terrible lag, lack of promised upgrades/updates, bugs that go unfixed, new content added before fixing outstanding bugs.

SUMMARY:
After playing this game for a few months, I think it has the potential to be the best online RPG game available. Unfortunately, the servers are frequently down, questions go unanswered, and most importantly, Blizzard lies to their customers about downtimes and bans people when they complain too much about the problems with the game. Not something to look forward to when you're paying $15 a month to play...

If you become one of Blizzard's customers, no matter how upset you get, be sure not to complain. They'll get rid of you in a heartbeat and cover their butts by claiming that you've violated their "Terms of Service". Apparently I missed the line that said "failure to kiss up to Blizzard may...

THE GOOD:
Too many to mention, graphics, sound, music, gameplay, the whole setup is simply amazing

THE BAD:
Lack of a general story, potential unbalance, monthly fees

SUMMARY:
I came to WoW from playing Final Fantasy XI (another mmorpg) and I have to say after spending a single day playing WoW I felt I had wasted an entire year on FFXI. World of Warcraft is so well designed and thought out that there is simply no comparison to any other game of its kind.

To write a full review on this would be like writing a small novel, something I simply don't have time for. So instead I'll get right to the point.

PROS

  • You can solo or you can group, each class has the ability to effectively solo itself right to level 60 (current cap). Classes that decide to party up benefit from faster experience and potential better item drops from more difficult quests

  • The music is fantastic, not a single track has disappointed me....

    THE GOOD:
The good news is that World of Warcraft is already shaping up to be far more than a tacky second-rate spin-off or an attempt to cash-in on the latest buzz word, and if nothing else the game's visuals should help it to stand out from the ever growing online crowd. Like Warcraft III, it has a stylised cartoon-like feel which is eye-catching without being overly cutesy. From curvaceous half-timbered medieval villages and farms to lush jungles and wide sandy beaches, everything is beautifully detailed while still looking like a twisted caricature. This world basks in the glow of the now traditional dynamic lighting, shown off in the demonstration we saw by a lighthouse casting its beam into the night as waves gently lapped on the shoreline below. The result is a nice middle ground between the extremes of overhyped photo-realism and gimmicky cel shading. The character models are equally impressive, with humans, orcs and bull-like taurens all intricately detailed and...

    THE GOOD:
Great Graphics, good music, helpful clan features, and excellent gameplay

    THE BAD:
The cost per month nearly ten bucks! And parties of only five together

    SUMMARY:
This will be one of the best MMORPG's out there for quite some time. Blizzard's high standards really shine in this game. The way the graphics are, really give you a sense of life in the game. Birds fly over head while a rabbit hops from bush to bush. Some neater features are riding mounts like horses and wolves and rumors of owning buildings for clans and such. If your looking for a great MMORPG I highly recommend World of Warcraft. The price might burn a few people's pocket money but it's well worth it.
