Graphics whores will like it - it's a solid 30 frames per second despite the occasional explosive indulgence, delivering tons of detail and some natty lighting effects - but, again, there isn't anything new here, and there needed to be if TimeShift was going to leave any sort of mark. As it is, the things it does are rife with potential it doesn't really exploit, and the result is adequate but nothing more - worth picking up in the January sales when you've overdosed on the competition, perhaps, but otherwise unremarkable. So, to return to the original point: no.

An interesting time-shifting mechanic and fun-to-shoot weapons can't make up for the rest of TimeShift's run-of-the-mill first-person shooter gameplay.

A great deal of work was done to bring the look and feel of TimeShift up to date, though an equal amount of time should have been spent on the design and presentation. With games like Halo 3 and The Orange Box out and Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 on the way, those design shortcomings feel ever magnified in the face of such giants. That doesn't mean there isn't any fun to be had here and if you have a spare weekend in the midst of the intense gaming schedule this fall demands of hardcore gamers, then Timeshift wouldn't be a bad way to spend it.

"TimeShifts time control features are certainly unique for a FPS game and it does add a lot to the combat. Unfortunately, it seems like that was the only original idea that the developers of this game had. It's just too bad the developers couldn't press the rewind button on our time and release this before their inspiration."
