Stranglehold

For as long as it lasts, Stranglehold delivers a satisfying, if somewhat derivative action game experience.

It may not be the best PC action game this year, but it's got more style than all the other shooters combined.

"Apart from the single player storyline, we also found out that there will be up to 8 players in multiplayer matches (with all the classic multiplayer modes that you know and love). But, one thing that the developers wanted to particularly stress was that there will be no difference between the PS3, 360 and PC versions of the game. In fact, they're going out of their way to make sure the game is exactly the same regardless of the platform. That sounds fine, considering that Stranglehold seeks to put a new cinematic spin on environmental destruction."

There are a lot of mindless shooters on the market, but none of them immerse you in John Woo's world. And that's where Stranglehold stands out. This is the true sequel to Hard Boiled, which means Stranglehold is more about style than substance. So, not surprisingly, the story is melodramatic and forgettable and the adrenaline-pumping action is the star of the show. Stranglehold could use two more chapters and a little more visual polish, but it is an otherwise exhilarating experience. There are plenty of "Oh my God" moments and just enough challenge to sustain anyone's interest from start to finish.
