Oh, That Old Game? | 4.1 0 comments |
by RedFoxBandit from Central, MN, United States | Dec 22, 2004 |
THE GOOD: - Great Gameplay - Easy To Learn - Gets Ya HookedTHE BAD: - Low Replay Value - Hard to Beat Levels SUMMARY: Roller Coaster Tycoon seems like a very addictive game if you haven't played any games like its genre, and you will be hooked as soon as you play it. Money is an issue here, and you must manage it wisely. You must build hundreds of rides, hire tons of staff and open many side attractions such as bathroom stalls, food, drinks and balloons to bring in as much cash as possible.
However, once you've beaten one level, you've beaten them all. It's the same old crap - build this, destroy that, adjust the price to this, profit of that; it really becomes more of a hassle, and unless you like building small buildings for small cash for a long time, you'll lose interest in this game real fast.
I lent this game to my friend; he returned it and said he was hooked for about a week, then he got bored...I guess he knows the feeling. Meh, pick it up if you're bored, if you must; otherwise get another one.
Overall = 4.1/5 Grade: B- |

THE GOOD: You can design your own roller coasters and pick the layout of your park, there are lots of parks to chose from, an all-around fun game.THE BAD: If you get negative money and you can't increase your loan you pretty much can't do anything except wait for it to increase, it can be boring after you meet your goal and still have time left. SUMMARY: It's fun to design your own roller coasters, and easy to build a pre-made one. The controls are easy, symbols are self-explanatory. This is a great game to play while trying to reach the goal set for the park. But it can become tedious if you've completed your goal and there's still time to kill. Even with the bad things though, I would recommend this game. And no, this is not a game for "math geeks" as some may say. Just because it has a little to do with managing money doesn't make it that. It's for anyone who likes a good building game, who is creative or inventive. |

THE GOOD: ---THE BAD: --- SUMMARY: This game is alot like Sim City. You create the park with rollercoasters, kiddy-rides, haunted houses, swinging ships, merry-go-rounds, and go karts. You need to design your park appropraitely or the guests will leave. You need to provide them with food, drink, bathrooms, and even cotton candy stalls. That isn't what is amazing though. It's the ability to even reate your own rollercoaster or even go kart ride. Not that you would want to, though, there are dozens of rollercoaster to choose from alone. Then you'll need to hire mechanics, janitors, and giant fuzzy animals to maintain your guests and park. There are a variety of levels that all have objectives to complete like "Have $100,000 by the end of August, year 3". It's an incredably fun game. Did I mention that you get awards based on your parks cleanliness/safeness? There are "Most Cleanly Park", "Most Disgusting Park", "Safest Park", and "Least Safe Park". Thats what mechanics are for. If your rides brakes fail, and a carload of passengers are hulred into another carload of passengers or even straight into the sky, people will surely die. Make money from rides, food, drink, park admission, and if you are that cruel, the bathroom. |

Classic Management Game | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Basically everything about the game was great when it was first released. But I will divide it up for you..
The graphics werent terribly impressive, but they got the job done. They were clear and smooth. All you basically need. Alot of detail too.
The rides, dont start me on the rides.. Well at the time, there was basically the opportunity to build any rollercoaster or ride imaginable, and in turn, kill people by building it with hostile intent. Again, the graphics were basically the same for each ride, but still. The rides are prised, imo, the realistic range ( ), and can easily keep you entertained, even watching the exit.
Shops and stalls, numerous, simple facilities and the odd Drive-Thru type of thing. Bugers, Drinks Popcorn, some of the few. Quite good and essential to the game. I would have liked to seen them a bit more numerically but what you going to do?
The guests, all the same except for the shirt, money and tolleration of rides. Not much to say, I just gave you their life story.THE BAD: Addictive. SUMMARY: A classic in its own right. Cheap now compared to when I bought it. And well worth the money too. I believe it is still ranked the best managment game by some PC Game magazines, after all these years.
Extreamly addictive. I have spent too many hours sitting and playing this game. Once you get into it, you wont be able to get out.

THE GOOD: The shops and rides! There is a nice selection!
THE BAD: Not too big into the 3D thing! SUMMARY: This is a great game! You get to make your own rides, shops, themes, and more! Just wait till you get the expansions! More rides, more themes, and more shops! This is a game for people who want to make a theme park in a game! I have played all 3 and they are all great! I really like the third one though! |

THE GOOD: A standerd game, Fun, Nice Replay Value.THE BAD: Sometimes messes up your computer, Outdated. (Need the Expansion Packs to be at the same area your friends are) SUMMARY: This is a standerd game. It is okay. You build rides yourself, though there is actually very little customising being done. You basically get to pick the color of about half your items.
This is a basic Theme Park Games. You own a Theme Park and such. There are better Theme Park Games out there though. This doesn't get boring for a while and sometimes messes up your computer. |

THE GOOD: Large Selection of rides, shops/stalls, park theming and also features.THE BAD: It's not true 3D, there's no "sandbox mode" (meaning the ability to - or not in this case - build a park without restrictions), no night and day - just day. SUMMARY: Roller Coaster Tycoon is the best (and only) theme park simulation since Bullfrog's Theme Park. This game has alot more depth than that game, and the graphics are much better. Alot of features have been taken from Theme Park. But this game is better in so many ways.
First off, you'll be able to rotate the map 4 directions. It's not true 3D, but it helps you to look around objects and see where you're building. In RCT, you'll be able to elevate terrain and even build underground. These features were not included in games like Theme Park.
One of the main downfalls of the game is that there's no "sandbox mode". This means that there isn't a level in the game where you can just build at your desire. This is a feature I'm sure alot of people would have loved. You must complete scenarios in this game in order to finish it, and the business element also makes the game stutter somewhat.
But all in all, you should love RCT. If you do, it would be wise to buy it's add-on packs, Added Attractions (or Corkscrew Follies as it was known in the US) and Loopy Landscapes. RCT, even though it is a relatively old game, still has a HUGE net following. |

THE GOOD: Everything, this is THE BEST GAME EVER.THE BAD: None. SUMMARY: I bought this game over two years ago, yesterday I went out and spent over £40 buying a game, when I came home I turned on the pc and played roller coaster tycoon for 2 hours before playing my new game! That says it all!
Value: At less than 20 pounds, unbeatable, 10/10. Levels: More levels than imaginable, decades of gameplay! 10/10 Grapics: Although 2D, they are better for this type of game. 9/10

| This game is definatly one of the most popular games that has been made in a long time. I would reccomend buying the expansions if you have the game because they give you more levels and ride types/designs. This game is worth every penny. |
