: : : : : Republic: The Revolution

Republic: The Revolution begins many years ago in Novistrana, a former state of the Soviet Union, where you, as the Avatar, witness the violent arrest of your parents by the Secret Police. Some weeks later, news arrives that both parents have died in custody. From that moment you vow revenge on the man who caused this, the local head of the Secret Police Vasily Karasov.

Over the years, sweeping changes occur to Novistrana. As the Soviet Union and communism collapse, Novistrana gains its independence and to your horror, Vasily Karasov, experiences a meteoric rise in power to eventually become the President.

Soon after taking control Karasov's motives for power become apparent as millions of dollars are siphoned into offshore bank accounts and he begins work on his grandiose palace.

This is in stark contrast to the fortune of the citizens of the country, who are slipping further into poverty. Unrest is building, the people are growing increasingly unhappy at the growing gulf between the have's and the have nots... Criminals have free reign to do as they please, the hopelessly corrupt and bogged down law enforcement are as much involved in organised crime as the gangsters. All the while Trade Union leaders across the country are selling out their members and using their associations to launder money from drug dealing and black market trading.

The President's inclination to use force against his opposition is made horrifyingly clear when dozens of alleged dissident leaders and subversives are arrested. Amongst these are respected political figures and journalists - nothing is seen of them again.

As a result, riots and civil disobedience erupt across the country and all the while Karasov sits comfortably on his seat of power in the Capital Berezina, surrounded by his loyal guards.

However rumours begin to emerge that close advisors to the President are questioning his sanity and his ability to rule. Karasov may not be a man to cross, he has retained his powers within the secret police and is determined to hold onto power but his iron grip is certainly crumbling. No one close to Karasov is going to break ranks but others may and so could the people if the right man can persuade them...
