Background
Poor Recette Lemongrass has it hard. She is awoken one morning by a fairy called Tear with the most shocking news. Her father, who had been off adventuring for some time, has not only disappeared but also has ran up a debt that Tear is now trying to get paid. Fortunately, Recette has a chane to hold onto her house as Tear suggests turning the place into an item shop. So the pair go into business and Recette must work hard to pay off her father's debt.
Game Play
Recettear is primarilly a shop management sim. Players must get hold of items, either by purchasing them from wholesalers, buying cheap off customers or scavanging them from dungeons. Then these items are sold onto customers at prices decided by the player. Be careful though - charge too much and you risk driving customers away, but charge too little and you might not make the next debt repayment. By making successful sales you'll gain more trusting customers and an increasing merchant level that lets you do things like redecorating or even expanding the shop.
Players can also hire adventurers in order to explore dungeons. In these areas players directly control the adventurers and defeat numerous enemies while hunting down treasure. Boss fights are also common. Adventurers have a basic attack and access to multiple special attacks that use up SP. Equipment can be temporarily provided to the adventurer or they will permanently equip goods purchased from your shop.
