Background

Might and Magic 10 Legacy is a fantasy RPG set on the Agyn Peninsula, in the world of Ashan. The game was released in January of 2014, but is is a 90's style turn based dungeon crawler adventure similar to Eye of the Beholder (1991) and with some of the classic feel of Ultima Underworld (1992).

The M&M X Legacy storyline follows the events of Might & Magic Heroes VI (2011), but focuses more on combat, exploration, and hack'n slash than complex and deep background and storytelling, a huge departure from the epic RPGs of modern times such as The Witcher, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. The game is intended to bring back a simpler type of RPG with modern graphics.

Gameplay

Gameplay is where Might and Magic shines and most resembles throwback titles. The player controls a party of four adventurers, each of which can be built at the game's onset using the character builder. The perspective is first person, but movement and where you look is "grid based", meaning you can move forwards, backwards, side to side, or turn left or right, one "block" at a time.

Combat is also turn based, with each of the four characters in the party taking turns to attack, cast a spell, use an item, or an ability. Because of the grid nature of movenent, gamers familiar with classic turn based grid games will recognize opportunities like luring creatures down corridors or using dungeon layouts to their tactical advantage. If you are familiar with that, you'll also find comfort in the constant need to return to town to restock or rest.

Features

  • "traditional" Might & Magic style turn based movement and combat, from a first person perspective.
  • A total of 12 character class and race combinations: The races are Humans, Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, and there are 3 classes within each race.
  • Explore the totally new Agyn Peninsula
  • No limits to where you can explore: the game does not have artificial region limits that prevent you from entering based on your level or how powerful your group is. You can stumble into areas where your adventurers will be easily wiped out by high level monsters. This brings back some of the challenge from earlier era RPGs of this type.
  • Several modes of difficulty, from easier "Adventure" mode to the difficult "Warrior" mode.
  • Build your own, custom team of adventurers or use the included boilerplate group.
  • Recruit followers including lore keepers, soldiers, and even chefs that give bonuses or other perks to your group (but do not participate directly in exploration and combat as additional adventurers)
  • many side quests and non linear missions, play as many or as few as you like.
