SUMMARY: I am really enjoying this game, especially since I purchased a new force feedback joystick the same day. Graphics are A++ and the gameplay is fun and more involved than your average space sim. Edge of Chaos is of a slow pace when compared to other games because theres a lot of flying from system to system, often over extremely long distances. If your patient or you like that sort of slower pace and the ability to make your own decisions once you actually arrive then my guess is that you'll be happy. I was also hoping for a bit more complexity in the form of being able to enter the atmospheres of planets, as well as being able to tinker with the engineering of the ships a bit more. Im not complaining though, what is in the game is enough and its fun.
THE GOOD: Visually amazing! The dust clouds, rotating planets, this game is a visual dream.
THE BAD: Overall, there is less control of the ship in this game than in the previous game.
SUMMARY: I just got this game last night, and WOW! The graphics are dazzling, to say the least. When you LDS through that dust cloud and come out on top of that star... awesome. I played the first 2 I-War games thru multiple times, and I really got good at handling the Dreadnaught-class corvette, sans joystick! But this new interface, while pretty, is causing some problems. Is there no ship status display, where you can see the whole ship and it's systems? I see a box, thru which I can scroll thru systems... how does that work in combat? (I loved seeing all the damaged systems blinking in red on the old game's master diagram). And where is the heads-up damage indicator? That "HULL DAMAGE: 40%" HUD flash sucks.
Do I have to go to the ENG menu to set my TRI? (by moving those sliders! Ugh!) Remember how you co...
It could have been a good game but : First missions are boring and simplistic, I hope next ones are better. Could not play more than one hour, it was so boring. Space combat is maybe "realistic" but it lacks fun and real strategy in using different weapons. Using the "turbo" speed is way too efficient, turning any fight in your favor. Graphics are good but way too messy, it's hard to understand what are all those things displayed. The spheric radar is a bad idea, nothing's better than this old good V shaped radar introduced with Elite. Space map is also hard to use, it'll take you much time to find your destination. In depth game : none This game is a Privateer wannabe, just a wannabe. I enjoyed much more Privateer II than this game. Good old Elite game is even way much more enjoyable if you like freedom of action.
