"While The Shadow of Death doesn’t have as much to offer fans that already own the original game and it’s add-on, judged as a stand-alone game it represents an incredibly good deal. Despite any deficiencies in the "Shadow of Death" campaign, it’s still a superbly crafted role-playing strategy game."

"The graphics might be spartan, the eponymous heroes a little overpowering, the missions lengthy and the turn-based gameplay slow paced, but despite its flaws, Shadow Of Death is still a strangely addictive game. "
"There is no doubt in my mind that Heroes III is a great game. There is a tremendous replay value here and you will be entertained for a long long time. Unfortunately, as is the case with so many add-ons, Shadow of Death offers too little new material. Only the most keen of Heroes players will actually notice the new additions. Therefore this game should be targeted at only those people. If you want have another go at Heroes III just play the original again and save the money for Heroes IV."
"The graphics for the game have been slightly improved and 8 new terrain types have been added to make the world more varied, you get a map and campaign editor and dipite the combat being a hex affair, its really does look nice. "

"Do not misunderstand these comments to imply that there isn't anything interesting in HoMM3: TSoD. There are some nice things in the game and I enjoyed playing the campaigns especially. But I got the game for free. If I was going to spend my own money on the product, I would wait because there isn't enough there to justify the $39 - $10 rebate price. HoMM3: AB seemed a better deal because I used the random map generator and there were some game play enhancements that increased my enjoyment of the original title. "
