THE GOOD:
  • Another point of view for Half-Life: the guard
  • Some references to HL and HLOF
  • High Definition Pack included
  • Soundtrack
  • Graphics

    THE BAD:

  • Bugged released version (flashlight)
  • Too short
  • Nothing really new
  • Useless HEV devices

    SUMMARY:
Another entry in the Black Mesa Era

Half-Life was one of the first FPS to propose a complex story, with graphics still angular but with the best 3D for 1998. You were Gordon Freeman, a scientist turned hero for the Black Mesa staff, in a place where an alien invasion was happening, where Marines and Black Ops were the "cleaners". G-Man, mysterious man with a case, was monitoring you.

The game was a real success and an add-on was released in 1999. Opposing Force was shorter than HL (normal for an add-on) but with the return of the G-Man, with new weapons, new enemies. One big difference: you weren't...

    THE GOOD:
*New areas of Black Mesa and Xen are revealed
*graphics are okay with the high-def expansion (comes with it)
    *comes with Half-Life: Opposing Force
*Learn more about Barney Calhoun from Half-Life one and 2
*Still has all the great explosive gameplay and sound you can expect from a Half-Life title
*Final sequence is more exciting than you'd think

    THE BAD:
    *No bosses
    *Too short
    *Not that many weapons
    *Can't access H.E.V. suit chargers

    SUMMARY:
Ever wonder how Barney Calhoun (security guard in Half-Life and rebel in Half-Life 2) came to be in the Half-Life series? In the Blue Shift game, you play as him, trying to get yourself and some scientists out of Black Mesa during the alien incident.
Your weapon set, however, is drastically smaller than those in other Half-Life games. And unlike Opposing force, you get no new weapons to tinker with.
Another thing that's weird is that you can't...

    THE GOOD:
    The Definition Pack
    Another new perspective
    Good weapons
    Nice intro
In US it comes with Opposing Force

    THE BAD:
    Where are some weapons
    Boring character
    Dull environments
    Short
    A general rehash

    SUMMARY:
Half-Life: Blue Shift is the second offical expansion pack to one of the best FPS's ever, Half-Life. It takes another persepective and how does it do?

In Half-Life: Blue Shift you play as one of Black Mesa's security guards by the name of Barney Calhoun. He plays and controls exactly the same as the previous protagonists Gordan Freeman and Adrian Shepherd. Calhoun is a boring character. Like Gordy and Ade he doesn't talk but he should has plenty of people talk directly to him. There is something about being a security guard not being very exciting. Gordan was a scientist really running for his life and Adrian was a soldier commanding squads and getting hold of devastating weaponary. Calhoun never gets a...

    THE GOOD:
Graphics are not bad, and the weapoons are good.

    THE BAD:
Nothing specific, it is short but it is obvioulsly not a full length story.

    SUMMARY:
This is a pretty good game if you have played Half Life and loved it. Even if you have never played Half Life this is still an awesome game and you can get it really cheap too. It is in first person and you play a security guard at the Black Mesa place. I am not really a big Half Life fan, I like it but dont go into the stroy very much. The game is really fun as you need to just kill aliens and such. You gotta protect the scientists and help other security guards. Just walking around is pretty fun. I dont reamember the actual storyline but it is not much. I highy recommend it.

    THE GOOD:
    Level design
    Comes with opposing force
I got it for three dollars

    THE BAD:
    Way too short

    SUMMARY:
I got this game because I found it at a thrift store for three dollars. I though "What the heck, its only three bucks" and went ahead and bought it. I've had a lot of fun with the game. There were times where it reminded me of Deus EX, and then there were other times were it reminded me of Unreal. Those are definately two of my most favorite games. There isn't much to complain about this game (especially for the price I paid for it) but there is one major problem. The game is way too short. I beat in under 6 hours almost in one sitting. Still there is opposing force that comes with the game (I have yet to play that though).

    Bottom Line:
It's not that bad of a game even though it is really short.

    THE GOOD:
Get the definition pak and you got the best grapics i ever saw in half life

    THE BAD:
    Very very very short

    SUMMARY:
Some people say that your flashlight [fl] dosnt work just pause the game press [fl button] then your fl works.
I don't have any problems but mabey you guys do so good luck on fixing it.
If you get the chance to get this game get it.
If you dont have half-life still get it becouse you dont need half-life to make it work.
Well there it is all good exept its a little too short so good luck [gl] on playing the game
oh yeah i forgot last part is so easy just dont worry about the soldiers [unless you have less the 63 hp and 5 armor] just run into the portal [only 14 soldirers 6 with shotguns.]
last thing promiss you will transport but dont worry you get tranportanted back [transportaed like 5 times don't worry i did and i quit by accident]

    THE GOOD:
Half-Life like you've never seen it, the best single player.

    THE BAD:
The best single player, but only while it lasts, it took me four and a half hours to complete. Also, no new things are added. No new weapons, or any new enemies, which is a pity.

    SUMMARY:
Unlike what most people think, Blue Shift isn't an expansion set, it is a (deep breath) New stand-alone episode in the half-life universe. In other words, you don't need Half-life to play it. Also, it comes with the high definition pak, which updates all weapon skins, most human and alien skins, boosts the graphics and expands the AI. In its Half-life of just about 6 hours on average, it features some of the best maps ever designed and has a great buddy bit (when you help a scientist). Although very short, its a welcome return to black mesa and was well worth the money.

    THE GOOD:
Nice graphics, includes HD Pack and Opposing Force.

    THE BAD:
Short and little levels, a little pricey for a short expansion and annoying bugs.

    SUMMARY:
Hi guys! Half-Life: Blue Shift is the latest expansion pack for Half-Life after Opposing Force. In Blue Shift, you play as a security guard in blue.

The good points when buying this game and playing it are the graphics, the HD Pack that enhance Half-Life, Blue Shift and Opposing Force game textures and weapon models. Install it if you like but I would recommend you people to install it. It will spice up you HL experience.

The bad points which includes the short gameplay and annoying bugs. The bug that most gamer MIGHT experienced is the flashlight problem. The default key for flashlight is f but when you press f, you will only hear the flashlight sound but not the lights. To fix this, press Pause/Break button and pause the game then press f to turn on the lights...
