What can I say to further glorify this amazing game? Well for one, the fact that we continue the storyline with the same character as in the first of this series; our nameless hero. Many old faces come back with new looks and skills. The newer characters become vital to the game play, giving information no one from the Penal colony could give and having a well understanding of the new region; which has now doubled in size to include the old penal colony and the new area that you discover to be the island of Khorinis. I was amazed at how well Piranha Bytes did on this magnificent sequel, going above and beyond my expectations. Bugs and awful glitches were no where to be seen in this game, where as many of you who played the first Gothic probably came in contact with a few rather annoying ones. They definitely stepped it up and made it run very smoothly. The Graphics are simply fantastic, giving the game a life-like appearance that I've never seen in another game! Even the AI of the NPC...
I'm one of those guys with patience and i love to explore huge areas with lots of things to do. I must stand for my actions and there will be no turning back if i do something wrong. That's Gothic 2 in a nutshell. Almost, there are just a lot of more things to say about Gothic 2.
You can say that this is a traditional non-linear PC RPG where you can go anywhere you want and almost do anything you want. Unlike other PC RPG:s you don't create your own character in the beginning, here you start as the character you were in the first game. Unfortunately I haven't played the first Gothic, so I am missing some parts of the story. The story of the first game is explained in the beginning of Gothic 2, so you will at least know a little bit of the events from the first game.
Graphics & Design The graphics are nice. They are not the best as it looks a bit old for today's standards, and some textures looks a bit blurred, but it's not that kind of graphics that annoys you.
THE GOOD: - has many of the characters from GOTHIC - You can go back to th prison colony, and the land there is almost the same as GOTHIC - GOTHIC 2 picks up where GOTHIC left off
THE BAD: - There are to many different attributes to learn
SUMMARY: This game is great! I liked how it picked up right where GOTHIC left off, so if you played GOTHIC you know a lot of old places and people. You can pick from three different guilds and you can have a choice about many things you want to do. The graphics in the game are so real! its amazing! There is now a lot more land to explore because you have all of Khorinis AND you have most of the prison colony, which is almost exactly the same as in GOTHIC. I would reccomend this game to anyone, but you should really play GOTHIC before you play GOTHIC 2, that way you get the whole story.
THE GOOD: Graphics are gorgeous. The vocals for conversation instead of text gives the game a unique feel. A large variety of monsters and missions.
THE BAD: Combat is extremely difficult. Enemies are very tough and the game doesn't provide you with any type of indicator on how to tell who will kill you instantly or not. The game is very broad but it is also very vague on the quests. The instruction book sucks. Leveling up isn't explained well.
SUMMARY: On the whole, I enjoy playing this game. It has a real old school feel to it so if you have been playing RPG's for a while (electronic and paper) then you should enjoy it. The game really is a lot of fun but there are some very obvious flaws with the game and they all fall into the playability category.
The first is the controls. The game is entirely keyboard based. You can only use the mouse for about two functions and you play better if you learn to get by without it. But we all like our mouses. You can't even navigate the me...
THE GOOD: Unputdownable, detailed Landscapes, great characters, good fighting for a RPG,2 play views and great use of creatures on route.when you kill them you can skin them, take their claws etc which you can sell for money which added a great touch to the game so your not just trying to level up .
THE BAD: errr once you chose a path you cannot change your mind. but thats it ,slight stuttering in parts.had to turn the music off to play without interferance.needs a patch when made as some grathical cliches encountered while exploring. Not bad enough though to spoil the game.
SUMMARY: After the mighty Morrowind i thought this would be a poor RPG in comparsion but its superb,in parts better than morrowind in others not. great missions and loads of side missions as well to keep you amused.i liked the day/night time effects which have characters in the game moving around doing different duties /actions depending on the time.ie a stall holder works at his stall during the day then at night you will ...
