"Arxel Tribe has bravely taken on a weighty set of topics in Faust instead of cautiously sticking to more conventional adventure themes. Everything in the story develops so that you become emotionally involved. While I cannot say playing through Faust had no effect on me, as indeed it did, I can say I did not enjoy the effect it had. The best way I can describe the overall impact is that it is the exact opposite of a feel-good experience, and leaves gamers disturbed and unsettled."

"Faust is not a masterpiece; it's a bit too flawed for that. But it's a compulsively playable, beautiful, sinister and complex game that is bursting at the seems with creativity. For me, the game's problems, while not inconsiderable, were very much overshadowed by its enormous strengths. I had a wonderful time playing it. It's a huge leap forward for Arxel Tribe, and makes them truly a studio to watch. Bring on Pompeii and Jerusalem!!"

"Overall it's hard to recommend Faust to anyone except the most non-discriminating gamer. While it may have an excellent story and theme as well as superb sound, the dated gameplay simply cannot hold up to more modern adventures such as the remarkable Gabriel Knight 3 which surpasses Faust in every concievable way other than the music. This just goes to show that even an interesting premise and incredible musical score won't save a mediocre title with dated gameplay from obscurity."

"So, all in all we have a dark yet delightful adventure that should appeal to the more mature crowd. Of course, there are some whimsical moments too... but the humour is mostly of the black variety. Brilliant music, a compelling story, excellent voice acting... what more can I say except to put it on your Christmas list and make some adventurer happy this year. Oh yeah, better buy a copy for yourself too :-)"
