F1 Championship Season 2000F1 Championship Season 2000 is one of the seemingly endless supply of racing games to be released this year. The only real question is: How will it differ from, or even compete against Gran Tourismo 3? The simple and obvious answer is.... It won't
Being released as one of the first racing titles for PS2, EA Sports had to do an immaculate job in all aspects of F1 Championship Racing. The graphics are very well done. When you drive you will rarely see any glitches pop up, or major polygons appear then disappear like in many racing games. Although the tracks seem too smooth to be realistic, they are still wall made. The background seems a little bit 2-D like in many PSX titles, but overall F1 Championship Racing is very well put together.
There is no real different between F1 Championship racing and every other racing games sound system. There is one pretty neat feature that I liked, during the game the two British announcers will give historical information about F1 racing. The only real problem is the British announcers voices get kind of annoying to my American ears.
The only real thing that is a downfall about racing games today is the fact that the controls will undoubtedly match the controls of every other racing game. Basically you choose from one of 22 racers and keep racing yours through one season consisting of 17 tracks.
If you are a racing fan, you should be able to adapt to this game pretty easily. If you are not a racing fan, the controls are not too hard to learn. Like many of the racing games the controls are pretty good and well done.
It is really hard for me to get into this game. It could be due to the fact that I am not an F1 racing fan. If I was, then I suppose that I would have a different opinion. Since I did not have too much fun playing F1 Championship Racing, I feel that the replay value will only suffer from that, even more so that most racing games would.
If you are just looking for a great racing game then I would recommend that you buy Gran Tourismo 3. Unless you are an F1 racing fan, there is no real reason to get this game.
