General/Summary: Overall this game is pretty cool, when i first heard about this i was quick to get some money together and buy it but there were some flaws, like how long it takes to get the resources together to build anything and the length of time it is to train units. Empire Earth is worth buying but I would recommend Age of Mythology or something else. i thought the idea of a game that starts in the prehistoric age and ends up in the future would give me more hours of fun Gameplay: The game can be fun if you get good enough but for anyone who isnt a real master at these type of games will find this annoying and difficult. there is tons of upgrades and buildings you can make however the resources can take so long to build up on its just too much to handle before you're attacked by thongs of enemies. there is heaps of ages, you start off in the prehistoric age and go through each time frame until you get to the future. this is the best feature of the game but it can get you restless of gathering resouces. there is a deathmatch mode which means you start off with heaps of supplies but they can quickly run out and the ai attacks way too soon.
Graphics: The graphics are good, they could be better. They dont match up to age of mythology which i think is more dominant of this game. some of the buildings look the same and dont even serve any purpose, like houses or forts.
Sound: I cant badmouth the sound too much other then the prehistoric war boats. the rocks make way too much of an impact. |

Scissors Paper Stone Empire | 3.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Variety of units. Clever campaigns. Good tutorials. Decent Interface.THE BAD: Graphics are a bit raw. Resource gathering remains exactly the same throughout all eras of human history. Combat system is too simple and very very silly. As a result the AI is occasionally unbeatable due to its ability to manipulate the system better than a human player can. Propehts and mechs are asinine and juvenile. SUMMARY: Combat system is based on the old Panzer General A takes B which takes C which takes A system. The outcomes here are even more lopsided though with one swordsman able to butcher two or three elephant archers because "shock weapons beat missile weapons". The one sided combat applies through all eras and types of warfare, so galleys beat battleships (!) just as readily. Its as if there's no combat algorithm besides "A always beats B". Why bother giving the units combat factors if the outcome is always so certain? Age of Kings and Rise of Nations do it better, where Unit A may have an advantage over Unit B, but not to the point where A can crush indefinite numbers of B without taking any loss to itself. Probable mixed result outcomes are a lot different than certain fixed results in a combat model...
The AI knows this system well and if you're fighting it (or a good human player) combined arms tactics fail miserably as the computer always singles out your units with the correct match that can destory it without taking damage. Instead of mixed force groups, you need to send units into combat segregated into types and then need to try and insert and withdraw each type based on what you're fighting. Not only is this tedious and frustrating in an RTS,it is blatantly ahistorical, no small issue for a game which makes such claims towards military historical accuracy.
Besides Scissors Paper Stone ad nauseum, this game also suffers from the same silly "priest conversion" effects of the Age of Empires series and adds in the ludicrous Prophets who can wreck cities with firestorms and earthquakes until a fairly late era in the epochs. This overly powerful unit just makes the game seem all the more inane. Finally, the battle mechs you eventually develop are also ludicrous as they not only have the same simple combat results as everything else in the game, they also have magic spell effects to advance time, heal other units, etc. The future of warfare evidently holds some fairly unexpected nuances...
Sounds are well done. Graphics are decent, but show some animation problems and look rotten when zoomed in. The game system surrounding the combat is decent, but does not show as wide a range of detail as say Rise Of Nations does. (Your businessmen in the later ages will still be rummaging in the same pumpkin patch like your cavemen did...) The campaigns are clever and interesting and have clever plotlines, though all is marred by that infuriating combat system.
All in all, wargamers wanting a solid RTS game should look back to Age of Kings or forward to Rise of Nations. The flawed combat and fantasy land game elements in Empire Earth make it a poor game for anyone who knows or cares anything about the history being simulated, or for anyone who enjoys subtle balanced game design. |

THE GOOD: The Gameplay and the Capaigns.
THE BAD: Campaigns too hard and Scenario editor Triggers are hard to figure out. SUMMARY: Well, the game is very good for one thing. The random maps are very detailed, and the A.I. is very challenging. I like the scenario creator, except for the triggers which is too hard to figure out. The game does have a big downfall. The gameplay is very ahrd, which kinda takes the fun out of the game, but that is also what make the game good. It makes you want to come back for more. Overall, this game ROCKS! |

You can make movies with the trigger system in the scenario editor. Empire earth, strategy or fun? | 3.9 0 comments |

THE GOOD: SERIOUSLY in depth strategy is needed, you can't use rushes in this game loads of units and lots of epochs very realistic you can upgrade units to suite your taste i.e. take sniper and get extra range and damage or sniper with extra speed and health, with many choices for upgradesTHE BAD: this game can take to long, ive played a 16 hour game not all unit formations are useful it can get too complicated a few other things here and there that arent good SUMMARY: this is an indepth strategy game which is strictly for strategy fans, people who dont have patience and play games to take a break from thinking should avoid this game. otherwise if your a die hard strategy fan, like myself, with lots of time to waste playing this game is THE GAME! at the begining of a game you care gien the coice of choosing civilization bonuses each giving you an upperhand at one thing or the other. or you can use a civilization builder and build and save civilization so you dont have to waste time choosing the bonuses in game. downs are theres no rotation which is kind of a dissapointment scince the zoom worked so well. graphics arent the best, they are good, but strictly speaking some stuff are too crapy. terrain for example and grass and trees dont look to real. and a hero in the last epoch has guns which look like paper cutouts. and theres a few paper cutouts in several of the epochs. EE provides lots of new principles to strategy gaming the most outstanding one being populating, placing units in building to improve their economic value or placing units in fortresses to mark you teritory. sounds another dissapointment, ive heard better music played at my school by people whove no idea what theyre doing. and finally the difficulty, this game is VERY challenging. at even the lowest difficulty your not meant to lose, but winning isnt easy. and at the harder settings it can become insanely difficult. the campaigns are also challenging and consuming as theres cut scenes in them and stuff to help you follow along the story.
final word, this games a MUST buy for all strategy fans and die hard fans of age strategy games like AOE2. but for people who are newly into strategy or just looking for a game to waste time on without the need to think and plan, look else where. this game needs lots of planning and strategy. |

Empire Earth: Interesting or boring | 4.2 0 comments |

THE GOOD: This game has, on the average, fairly good graphics. Just like the other strategy games except for Battle Realms, the units, structures, and objects are quite small BUT the advantage is that you can actually zoom in on anything and view it in a 3-D way. Really awesome!THE BAD: In multiplayer mode, the game actually takes a long time to play. This is not due to the system requirements and tech trees in order to build certain structures, but you need a great deal of resources in order to build a particular structure and/or units/machines. SUMMARY: Overall, the game is quite addictive coz you have more than a dozen epochs to play which have different looking structures and gamestyles. You can choose an epoch where you would want to play with clubs and spears, or an epoch with swords and rifles, and even to an epoch where you can play with robots, cyborgs, spaceships, etc.
The only real setback to this game is that the number of resources to build the best structures is not proportional to the speed that they may be acquired. The units required to accumulate resources are quite slow.
The game also has a twist. At the beginning of a multiplayer game, you have the option of choosing certain bonus points that you would think would give you an edge over an opponent. For example, you can choose to add some points on the attack rating of your airplanes. You'll get the drift once you play it.
The single player games are quite long though and each mission is HARD, which is what I like coz they give you a challenge.
For short, BUY THIS GAME! You won't go wrong and you will not be sorry that you bought it. Enjoy! |
