"OK, so Shivering Isles doesn't reinvent the fireball. But the impeccable design and construction of the original game breathes life into this expansion -- not, as you might assume, the other way around. If you're looking for more to do in (or an excuse to return to) the vibrant world of Oblivion, Sheogorath's kooky kingdom is well worth the $30 entry fee."
"Despite a few issues, Shivering Isles is still a great addition to Oblivion. The relatively short playtime and lack of new music or any major Hollywood voice talent are all a letdown, but the gameplay is great and the imagination that went into the Madgod's world really makes this expansion pack shine. If you weren't that impressed with the original game then Shivering Isles won't turn your opinion around, but fans of Oblivion will find this one to be worthy of the return to the world of The Elder Scrolls."

"This odd land is worth exploring, and its meaty questline worth bashing through. Whether it's worth £18 for the privilege comes down to your appetite for Oblivion's combat. You're going to be doing a hell of a lot of hacking here, and if you're happy with that then you'll get more than your money's worth."

"Another excellent game from Bethesda Softworks and fans of Oblivion are going to love this title without question. Highly recommended."

"I can't see anyone who enjoyed Oblivion enough to get through the main quest not buying this. There's lashings of new fighting and exploring, and it's more gorgeous than ever before. But maybe it was just the artist's turn to smoke the hookah of inspiration. There were plenty of people for whom the easily-broken game mechanics and problematic levelling system of Oblivion was too tortuous to contend with. This expansion does nothing to fix any problems these folk might have had - it's just the same game as it ever was, only this time with a slightly weirder backdrop, and less interesting questing."
