"The storyline of the game has not been officially announced, however the generally accepted story is that Duke Nukem's arch enemy, the evil cyborg Dr. Proton (from the original Duke Nukem game) has resurfaced and has taken over Las Vegas and the surrounding areas, including Area 51. Using alien artifacts from Area 51, Dr. Proton is contacting aliens from throughout the galaxy in an attempt to assemble an army bent on world conquest. Of course, it's up to Earth's alien-asskicker Duke Nukem to once again save the world from uncertain doom. As Duke Nukem, you can look towards battling the evil doers in such locales as casinos, strip clubs, Area 51, an old western ghost town, and even the Hoover Dam. Word is that Duke will once again find himself off the Earth as well, battling the baddies in an outer space setting."

"Along with the wonderful story line that will be included into Duke Nukem Forever there will be action galore. The gore level of Duke Nukem Forever will be near the top of "goreometer." Duke Nukem Forever will be have lots of gore as always but will incorporate it into the game a lot better. Taking the ideas of Raven Software, the guys making Soldier of Fortune, Duke Nukem Forever will have the "hit-zones" like Soldier of Fortune is going to be featuring. So whenever someone gets shot they will have a certain animation and reaction depending on where they got shot."
"The only features that won't be shipping with DNF are the classic Duke co-op mode and direct dial-up modem connections. This really won't matter to most of you, but to those of us who are old-time Duke fans, it's a glaring absence. "

"Initially Duke Nukem was to be given new life by the mighty impressive Quake2 engine. But newcomer Unreal was rapidly gaining popularity and more and more people started to see the advantages the Unreal engine had to offer. One major drawback of the Quake2 engine is that the level building is a very time consuming process. The Unreal engine can build the levels much faster compared to the Quake 2 engine and even though the switch from Q2 to U would consume a decent amount of time, 3D Realms would definitely save up a lot of time simply because building levels for Unreal requires far less CPU power (= less time) and on top of that, the editing system for Unreal is more user-friendly than Quake's is."
