THE GOOD: nice graphics, lots of strategy, nice atmosphereTHE BAD: kind of chaotic at times SUMMARY: well i dont have the game for long. so its just like a first impression what i write here. first, what the guy said earlier about defense: yes, there is only one type of tower. however you can put any unit of yours in it, so its like lots of different towers. about defending base: well the ai of the computer is nice. i build a base in a skirmish game on the upper part of the map, and build towers south of it to defend, but the computer instead attacked from right AND from left. and retreated at times too. really challenging ive to say. the towers aint really for defense either. more to spot an enemy early and deal consistant damage to him while having a long range. you cant build enough towers to secure ur base with them. instead you just rush with your "defense army" to the attacks and battle with them the battles are really nicely animated. the units dont have the same animations all the time but continue doing different moves. i personally like this, since in older realtime strategy games, like command and conquer, you could build an unbreakable defense with building walls and towers everywhere and noone in a multiplayer game dared to attack anyone. too i like it very much that to get a better unit you train a unit in a specific building and give it new ability or make a completly new type of it. this is nice because there is always something to do. there is always a unit left you can upgrade to something else, you assign a new place to, give a new special ability and so on. additionally i think the whole thing is thought very well out. while you have to train most units to get them really well, you have on the other hand access to buildings that give you units immediately (allies) however at a great cost. this is nice for emergency situations when your base is going to be overrun. at first the graphics didnt look that well for me. it looked empty. but after a short time i changed my mind because, well, it looks better now then at the first look. too i like the whole asian history style. no tanks or robots or whatever. really something different.
i dont know how the longterm motivation is but the first impression is really good. |

THE GOOD: [b]Four classes with entirely different units, abilities, and appearance, limitless strategies, great interactive environment/maps, great 3-D graphics, and cool character sounds and quotes.. these are just some of the characteristics that this game has that'll make you beg for a sequel. This will certainly make you think. Each opponent, each class has different styles and combos. In other words, it's a challenging game.THE BAD: The only thing that I can think of is the story mode. The stories are not that enticing to play, and doesn't have much twists to it. SUMMARY: You can play this game by yourself, over a Local Area Network, or over the modem. This makes it so versatile. You can play up to at most 8 players without sacrificing game speed and graphics, which are definitely specific factors that people look for. The animation of the units are really great! It's just like watching an adventure game on a strategy platform.
The units are not entirely polygon based and the rendering is smooth. This makes it more pleasing to the eyes. The environment is really interactive! You can cut down trees when you are fighting and you can push rocks over cliffs to land on your opponents. It's quite realistic..
But whatever you do, DON'T LEAVE THIS GAME ON THE SHELF! It's a definite MUST-BUY! I guarantee you, you'll spend several hours playing this game and you won't get tired of it. |

THE GOOD: It's cool to watch the units duke it out! Unlike other games there, their units don't fight, they shoot thier projectiles and take damage like thier moving stones or something. I love battle realms!!!THE BAD: The adventure part is only for the Dragon Clan. It should include the Wolf clan's. I like the wolf clan!!! SUMMARY: Battle realms show cool units. They are interactive and when they encounter enemy units they duel. This is what i like.
I like the wolf clan. I'm fond of attacking with WEREWOLVES!!!
They (liquid entertainment) should include a wolf clan adventure. (name it Gray Back's journey or something PLEASe!!!.) |

Too Hard, Too Frantic and Unbalanced | 3.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: The graphics are pretty detailed and beautiful to look at. The story line although somewhat weired is still catchy. The voice overs are pretty good somewhat if not slightly overdone.THE BAD: The later levels are just too hard to play, even in the easy mode. The cut scenes should have been rendered rather than use actual characters from the gameplay as the characters zoomed in looked pretty bad, this includes the backdrops. Limited peasant resource is a big no no. The interface when conducting a defensive and offensive manouvre is too labourious and not flexible enough to use considering the strength of the opposition. SUMMARY: I bought this game after looking at some cool graphics in their print advertising in some US based magazines. And yes, even when playing, the graphics are pretty good and the sound to depict the situation and environment on the screen is good. The music is pretty catchy for those moments when you get nervous from an opposition offensive on your base.
On the gameplay itself... Well there are many aras which let th game down. First of all, you do not really have the ability to build a good defense system for your base as the only thing that you could possibly use is the watch tower. Further more you can only use one unit for each tower and when the opposition come in force, you can forget about you defense. This makes it hard to attack enemy bases as you base is essentially "open" for an attack.
The fact that you cannot "buy" units also make the game hard as each unit will have to be trained in many aspects before becoming powerful enough to be used in an offensive. Ok, this is a challenge to all users but when your forces are decimated in battle and you have surplus rice and water, you still need a lot of time to train units up. This can be very unforgiving.
The opposition bases are well guarded with some really powerful units. When they come at you, you start to shiver as all you hard work in building an army comes to nothing. Most of your units will be destroyed or seriously hurt in defending th base. So each mission takes a long time to complete as you have to bite at their bases bit by bit until you wear down their defenses. Worst of all you normally only have a couple of entry points into opposition bases. You have to take their units head on and it is very hard to sneak on them, say using a flank manouvre to crush their forces.
Another weird thing about the game is that sometimes it is ok to let the main characters die, but then they turn up again in the cut scenes. Not really good logic there.
The battles are always frantic and you don't have any time to strategise in battle. Normally what happens is that you send virtually everybody into battle.
Battle Realms is certainly challenging, but may be a bit too much sometimes. The later levels are just plain illogical to handle at times and this makes you want to quit playing as you seem to be attacking the same targets (bases) all the time with countless number of units. It culd have been a great game if they introduce more defensive structures so that you do not have to worry SOOO much about your defenses at prepare for offensive movements. The usage of more trained characters always seem to be a waste of time as they too get slaughtered in the melee.
I still enjoy the game most of the time though. It's just that can somebody make it a bit easier and the opponent slightly less agressive? Sheesh. I spent last night building three armies who all got wiped out at my own base!! 3 out of 5. No more.
