: : : : : Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Background

The year is 1715, at a time when pirates ruled the Caribbean. In Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Edward Kenway is one such pirate, living by his own rules as he chases a long-forgotten dream of becoming his own man. His world is forever changed however after a chance meeting that leaves Edward without a ship and holding an important delivery, thus thrusting him into the ancient Assassin-Templar conflict.

As a respected pirate, Edward works closely alongside historical legends like Blackbeard, Calico Jack, and Benjamin Hornigold. With their help, Edward strives to become a legend in his own right, while also discovering his place in the grander scheme of things. His greatest asset -- and the biggest gameplay addition to Black Flag -- the Jackdaw. The Jackdaw is a fully customizable ship that serves as a base of operations and floating fortress, with fully upgradable weapons and defenses. Players can traverse the open ocean and partake in naval battles, while hunting for treasures and doing much of the same activities offered on land.

Black Flag boasts an open world very similar to that of Assassin's Creed III, consisting heavily of wilderness regions and smaller urban settlements. The world opens up much faster to players this time, and the returning hunting system now entails fishing in addition to hunting on land.

Similar to previous games, Edward can eventually become a leader and command a loyal following, who are integral to maintaining a strong fleet and acquiring new ships. Unlike before, the player can't rely on these friendly NPCs in combat or to pull off long-range assassinations.
