THE GOOD: -Many different Weapons to chose from, including types such as Melee, Ranged, or Magic -A good variety of Spells to chose from -Over 700 monsters to battle -The Game is constantly updating -Several Stories going on at once -Never run out of things to do -You can own a house -Several characters with good humor -Great 2D Graphics -Turn based -It's completely Free, unless you want access to everything -Special benefits to those who pay $20.00 to become a GuardianTHE BAD: -No Player Versus Player capabilities -No walking around -You have to buy your rewards after completing a quest -Gold takes a long time to earn -Server Cap. If you're a free player, you may not be able to log in at times. SUMMARY: Adventure Quest is another one of those solid Web RPG's. This time, all you need is a web browser and the latest version of Flash Player. It's completely Free and still provides many areas of Exploration. For those who pay the $20.00, countless other things are unlocked. It's a good free game, but you unlock its potential by paying the 1-time-fee.
Gameplay 10/10
The gameplay is quite nice. You can't walk around, but you don't really need to. You start out in a Town, and you can go to a variety of places such as a Magic Shop, Pet Shop (which you can use to train and fight along side you) and the Inn. There is also a map you can click on and it will open the option to travel to many places. Guardians can go everywhere, while Free players can go to about half of it. The Battle System is put together well. When you get into a battle during quests, you're taken to a 2D screen. You have several options such as Attack, Weapons (For changing Weapons) Spells to Cast, Shields, Healing Potions or other Misc. Items that give you a boost in battle. Each monster has different weaknesses, and each of your weapons have different Elements. If a monster had 120% Weakness to Fire, you'd want to use a Fire Weapon. If you Die, you don't lose any Gold or Weapons. You just go back to the main town. When you level up, you can train stats such as Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, Endurance, Charisma, and Luck. Strength increases Melee weapon power and accuracy. Dexterity increases Spell Accuracy, Blocking ability, and Ranged Weapon Power. Intellect raises your MP and Spell Strength. Endurance increases your HP. Charisma raises your pet's strength, accuracy, and attack rate. And Luck has slight effects on everything, such as finding treasure chests during quests, or the accuracy of an attack. The only downside is that you have to pay to raise your stats, and you can only raise one for every level you gain.
Graphics 9/10
The Graphics are good for a computer game, and the 2D gameplay isn't really a downside. Most of the monsters are colored nicely, and there are several backgrounds when battling. There are a few monsters that don't really seem to be well drawn, but the graphics aren't something that should turn you away from this game.
Music 5/10
There's really no music. The reason Adventure Quest gets a 5/10 is because it still has sound effects when you or the monster attacks. You can toggle the sound on and off, but otherwise, there is basically no music at all. The good part about toggling the sound off, is that you can listen to music while playing and not be disrupted by the Battle Sounds.
Story 10/10
It's a perfect score because there's always a story going on. It's a huge Web RPG that gets constantly updated. There's so many quests, so there's so many stories. What's going on depends on what you do, but the quests don't really have an effect on each other. You just experience small stories within the quests, while the main game doesn't really have one.
Overall 34/40
Overall, this is a game with some decent graphics and a story that never ends. There's many things to do in it, and you can play it Free and still have quite a bit of fun. It's a good RPG in comparison to console RPG's as well, so if you're looking for something to spend hours and hours on, Play Adventure Quest. |

THE GOOD: For a 2D RPG this is a surprisingly good game. The graphics are nice and smooth and you have the option of playing it on low, medium, or high graphics, which most sites won't do for you. Even for a turn-base game, the fights move quickly. And it's easy to get surprised by a new opponent coming out of nowhere. The weapons are cool, the extras are fun and the quests are epic. This game is definitely one to play.THE BAD: This, like most sites, allows for free accounts and free play. But to get the most out of the game you have to pay. Even with a free account you can still travel most of the map, participate in the wars, join a clan etc. But you can't enter the guardian tower and you can't get quite a few high level items. Plus there is a server for free accounts. This server is limited to how many people can play on it at a time. With a free account you might get stuck refreshing for a few hours just to get in the game. Since out of 10,000 people, 9,000 could be guardians, this system is hard for the free player. SUMMARY: The really great thing about this site is the fact that to become a guardian you pay only once. This isn't a site where you have to pay a monthly fee. For only $19.99 I was able to become a guardian. In the long run, to make this game more fun this was a good deal. The enemies are truly original and some are pretty comical. Some are repulsive beyond belief. There are so many quests and different places to go it's hard to get bored. And of course there are always wars or battles going on. This game is fun to play. It's challenging, it's funny, it's horrifying, and it's constantly updating. My advice is to create a free account, enter the game, click on the little creature, and go talk to the frogzard hunter. That is the best way to see what the game is like. Plus you are already provided with a weapon and basic armor in the beginning. But the true RPG fan will love the amazing shops filled with weapons, shields, spells, armor, and pets. The selection is great. Plus there are extras in the game that are fun to find. Certain weapons or pets that require you to embark on epic quests.
As a cool extra to the game you can buy a house. Which can be decorated, guarded, can give extra potions. And since the site is always being updated new houses are on the way. Soon you could own your own castle with fierce guards, in your own kingdom. This game is a great way to sit back and just chill out while kicking some monster butt. I'd recommend this game. |

THE GOOD: Well first off it’s an RPG, an online RPG at that, it is surprisingly addictive even for a 17 year old like me. I have been playing for a while now and have been witness to what seems like an endless amount of updates, the Artix Entertainment team are truly hard working, creating more equipment and monsters every weak, (X-)Guardians get even more benefits, apart from getting a nice array of extra weapons, shields, armour etc, we get more quests and fun things to do! The graphics are amazing considering it is a Flash Animation product, the amount of time and effort that has been put into scripting this masterpiece is incredible! What used to be a Lunch-break game has seriously evolved into an ever-expanding quality game! Don't miss out RPGers!THE BAD: No game is perfect. Although Adventure Quest is good fun and admittedly addictive, it’s limited in lifespan. How you ask? Well even though there are plenty of quests and things to buy and do, the monsters... can become, repetitive, although there are around 700+ monsters you will only meet certain monsters for a certain period of time, this is because of the leveling, you seldom meet the normal average Fire Zard once your level reaches the 80 boundary you only meet the Elite Zard's and Zard X3. I love this game but we need more things to do and the staff brings us that by working hard all week to bring us new quests, but these quests can only be done a few times before they become monotonous! SUMMARY: 1) 100's of weapons to choose from and they come in varieties of Melee, Ranged and Magic. 2) Spells, loads of them, look cool to cast and are great for monster slaying! 3) Armours are also wide in variety, including uber armours like Nightmare Plate and the now rare, Golden Armour. 4) Pets and Guests are fun and are almost essential to the game, making sure you have the right pets/guests for battle can make success that much easier! 5) Recently Items have been added, these great little add-ons can increase your stats and/or defences an example of this is the rare Amulet of Drakkonan, not only does it raise your intelligence by 10 it also gives 10 extra Fire Defence and 5% Magic defence, truly an elite piece of equipment! 6) There are over 100 different environments to choose from and in these environments come the 700+ monsters! 7) Wars and events happen on a regular basis so you never get immensely board!

THE GOOD: Not very taxing on a dial up connection, good variety of equipment, and is humorous.
Can't interact with players during game.THE BAD: gets tedious too quickly, (X) guardian ship fee, small servers, can't hold enough equipment, you pay for stuff you win in quests.
Can't interact with players during game. SUMMARY: Adventure Quest is an online rpg where you create your own character and participate in battles.
New users get 3 free play throughs and get to see a small part of the game, after this the servers are usually too full to play. after that you can pay a fee of $14.95 and get unlimited access
The game is played through turn based battles, which is actually fun if you play it only for a short time period however you feel no sense of progress and it gets very tedious, sadly this is one of the game's biggest weak points and drags it down because it's a core element.
The humor may evoke a chuckle at times, and some of the situations are truely funny, but this is unfortunately, a rare element.
The variety of equipment is one of AQ's strongest points, there is a myrad of equipment to chose from and each one has a unique feel, obtaining the equipment is another story.
In AQ, the only things you get for free are a sword and a piece of armor, everything (including stats.) has to be bought, and you have to be the right level to even think of buying it. This really drags the game down because of how expensive every thing is exp wise and gold wise.
Player interaction is a double-edged sword here, you don't feel like you make any impact on other players, but at the same time you don't have to deal with jerks, stalkers, and PKs like you do on runescape.
It pains me to give a low score to an rpg, but AQ omits the good elements. (feeling progress, getting that sought after item, regardless of wealth and experience.) and ends up feeling mediocre because of it. |

THE GOOD: Beautifully-drawn Graphics Large community of AQ fans Lots of secrets to uncover 500+ monsters to fight Regular game updates and events Variety of quests Unlimited Access for GuardiansTHE BAD:
Guardianship Fee Always full servers Pay gold to raise stats No interaction with other playersSUMMARY: First Impressions Adventure Quest is a fun Fantasy RPG game that you can play in your browser. Although, you play it online there is no possibility to interact with the other players in game.
Graphics If you are one of those people who like stunning effects and realistic graphic engines then this game is not for you. Everything in this game looks simple. Yet the graphics are a mixture of beautiful art and flash animation. The advantage of such games is that you don't need an expensive PC to play. All you need to play AQ is a browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and a fairly new version of the macromedia flash player.
Gameplay One of the best things in AQ in my opinion is the humour they have invested in everything. I for one, had a great fun doing most of the quests. The good thing is that the game gets updated every now and then and new quests, items and monsters are added very often. There are currently over five hundred monster in the game.
Everytime your character gains a level you receive 5 stat points and access to more monsters, meaning that you can encounter different monsters depending on your character's level. There is a tricky part though. To increase any of your stats you need to defeat a trainer and pay gold for increasing your attributes which are Strenght, Dexterity, Endurance, Intellect, Charisma and Luck.
The assortment of equipment is limited to armors, weapons and shields. You can also have pets to aid you in battles.
Final Thoughts Adventure Quest is a good way to waste your free time if you like this kind of games. Although it might not offer as much as other browser games such as RuneScape it is still a nice game and much cheaper if you decide to become a Guardian. Guardmanship costs only as little as 15$ and it is a one-time only payment. Becoming a guardian gives you access to more quest and items. If you for some reason can't afford or don't want to pay for the game it can be very annoying because the players limit is low compared to the number of people that are playing the game. If you are a Guardian you can access the server even if it's full but if you are playing for free then this could be a serious problem.

THE GOOD: Loads of monsters.
Great variety.
Loads of things to do.
So *bleep*ing fun.
Amazingly fun.
Good graphics.THE BAD: Only one thing - the server is too small, you can only get 5000-6000 free players on at a time. SUMMARY: This is a great game, even without guardianship(paying). You should play this game even if you don't want to give a one-time donation of $14.95 (£8.50). A load of my friends, play this game, and they all say it is amazing as well. If you don't believe any of us people, you have to play it yourself. But remember, make sure you have a couple of hours spare on your hands, you will need it. If you become a guardian, you double the amount of fun you can have, because as well as logging on whenever you want, you have extras such as different towns, extra weapons, the guardian town, and much more accessability and chance to have fun. |
