During an era where you have to be titled Final Fantasy or Zelda to be considered a great RPG, it is hard for a good new game to be excepted into the gaming realm. It has been under these unfortunate circumstances that Vampire the Masquerade was released back in the middle of 2000, which happened to be right as the newest extension in the Final Fantasy series was starting to get some serious hype.

With all of the pressure on Square to create a perfect PRG for a whole new generation of systems, Nilhistic got almost no attention drawn to them when the release of Vampire the Masquerade finally occured, creating a double edged sword so to speak. With no pressure on them, it allowed them to create a good game, and not be forced to create on the best games. It also, however, took away some of the coverage that would be drawn to it, and to this day, not many people have even heard of this excellent Role Playing Game.

Graphically, VTM allows the player to excape reality fairly easily and make their way into a beautifully designed game. The darker background allows for a more somber mood that the developers wanted. While getting into a battle, you will notice that the enemies are just as well designed as any of their Final Fantasy counterparts.

The point and click method that Nilhistic installed into Vampire the Masquerade is just about as good as you can get with a PC game. Going through the battles, it won't take long for you to master the controls in mere minutes.

There are a few drawbacks to Vampire the Masquerade, the most notable being the not so great replay value. With many of the RPG's released replay value is a must, but sadly most can not live up to those expectations placed upon them but video game players. Vampire the Masquerade is one of those poor games that was not able to stand strong against the pressure. By the end of the game, you will be enthralled, interested, and you would have enjoyed the game very much. This is also about the time that you will be getting quite tired of the game.

On a whole Vampire the Masquerade is a great game that any Role Playing Game fan should play, but, unfortunatly, almost none of them actually will. It may be because there are just better games out there, or it may be because it is on a system that is not very popular to say the least. Whatever it is, many people are missing out on a very good game, which is unfortunate.

THE GOOD:
It's a bloody vampire game! For once YOU get to be the Fiend instead of stalking and staking these lovely creatures! White Wolf (nearly) did the impossible.

THE BAD:
Mercurio. Nuff said. And the camera is crappy. Your partners are more of an extra care rather than aid. The items look nice though...

SUMMARY:
Yeh, it's a game worth having. But boost up some cheats just in case.

well, you can guess from the almost perfect score that i LOVE this game!
Beautiful graphics, facinating, involving story, wonderful background music and realistic sound effects make this game a unique experience (although i still can't understand why french knights and czech civilians speak elizabethan english...).
but with all of the great things i got to say about this game there are still some things i don't like:
first, the camera is utterly horrible, you can set it anyway you like but i find myself moving the camera angle almost constantly, i move the camera angle more than i move Cristof!
second, the game crashed every two minutes until i found this tip on activision's website that says that i should set the desktop to 640X480 and restart before playing the game, that resolved the crashes but is still annoying.
bottom line, if you like good RPGs, you'll like VTMR
