Back when it was first released and I was still too young to know what the *bleep* was actually going on, Max Payne was definitely one of my favorite games. I just couldn't get enough of going into bullet time and capping mobsters. That's all it was to me back then. Years later, I understood everything and it started to hit more at home for me. Now, this can mean one of two things - either the game will kick more ass, or it will suck ass. This falls into the former. Oh sure, it doesn't make the gameplay any better, but the gameplay was awesome anyway and the story is like that side dish that is just as satisfying to eat as the main dish.
The story is that Max Payne comes home one day from his job as a policeman and finds his wife and daughter murdered. From there, he lives his life wanting revenge on those who killed his family. Three years later, he has to work undercover with the Punchinello mafia family, who the DEA believe is trafficking a dangerous drug known as Valkyr. Remember...
THE GOOD: Great story. Great gamelay. Great sound and voice-over acting. Nice graphics. Easy controls.
THE BAD: Single-minded enemy A.I. Short game.
SUMMARY: A few years ago, I wasn't much into personal computer gaming at all when a friend told me about a game developed by Remedy Entertainment and 3D Realms which played just like the movie, The Matrix. It was supposed to be a cool action game, with great story, never-before-seen game-play, including bullet time and shoot dodge, and many other things to go with it. I went forward and tried the demo. And that changed my whole video-gaming habits and converted me into a pc gamer. I was bitten by the Payne!
Welcome to the wonderful and brutal world of Max Payne. The protagonist of this game, Max Payne, lives in a world full of hundreds of mafia members, drug addicts (known as junkies), government assassins and officials, who combine their forces to make your life as difficult as a hellhole. You, as Max Payne, go through an incredible journe...
THE GOOD: The gameplay, the storyline, the guns, the bad guys, the Atmosphere.
THE BAD: ...Searching...
SUMMARY: This game is the ultimate in the action/shooter catagory. The storyline to the game keeps you involved and excited, the graphics are some of the best I have seen, even to this day. Nothing you look at is pixilated or looks unrealistic and the detail on the buildings, characters, weapons, floor, infact everywhere, is just top notch. There are loads of weapons for you to jack off bad guys or find laying around, they range from handguns, such as the Desert Eagle, to the Grenade launcher. If you like great atmosphere in a game then it is hard get better than this. The music perfectly fits into the gameplay. The special effects such as slowmo when nailing a bad guy with the Jackhammer is something you have to see. The game physics are amazing and not to be missed. Although this game is old, you should still have a copy in your games collection.
THE GOOD: Weapons are pretty good. Bullet time adds alot to the game that you dont find elsewhere.
THE BAD: Nothing really bad really stands out, but there are some small things.
SUMMARY: The gameplay for this game is awesome. The weapon selection is really great but the storyline is mediocre. Having bullet time really adds to the game and when I played diff games after this one they seemed harder as I was not able to slow time down.
All in all I would defineltely recommend the game. I am not going into detail about the storyline since most all people know it already. The gameplay is fantawstic as are the graphics. There are many mods you can get including the lobby gun fight in the first Matrix. Get this game now.
Visuals: the visuals are good but you need a decent graphics card. I don't like how it is very dark in most places of the game, so you cant see, so you have to turn up the brightness. 7/10
Audio: Not much good music but the gun sounds are good and the voice acting. There isn't much music though, like I said. 7/10
Gameplay: The story is told nicely but I wouldn't play it with a mouse and a keyboard. it is much easier with a controller. Other than that, bullet time is cool, although it isn't the matrix and you can't do triple spin backflip trip kicks whilst firing a shotgun. Oh no sir. Just running around in slowmotion, shooting. also you have very little bullet time. 7/10
Longevity: Me and my friend completed this in about 10 hours totalled up. It would have been a shorter time but the loading times are dire. 4/10
SUMMARY: this will be a different kind of review ive read about all the user reviews and a few things before i begin ive seen half life mentioned in a few reviews and halflife has nothing on this game for anyone to even compare halflife to this is crazy.halflife well good in its own right had its day in the sun.i got a few other issues someone said the shot gun is not good from a distance on max payne well son shot guns are not good from a distance in real life thats why they put the sniper rifle in the game lol.i will be the first to admitt the game is short and i seen where a guy said he beat it in six hours on fugitive well your not going to beat it that fast your first time through the game.i also seen another guy that said his 1.2 ghz struggled with the game and the speed of your processor has not alot to do with how the game runs as long as you got the minimum requirement processor speed and a good solid graphics card you will beable to run the...
THE GOOD: the storyline, selection of weapons, the cool gunfighting, the slow motion action sequences know as "bullet time".
THE BAD: A bit short, some of the graphics a bit basic.
SUMMARY: Max Payne has got to have one of the most in-depth storylines ever in a game. It is another twisting/turning conspiracy game, but this time with even more of a twist!
You'll play as Max Payne, a cop with nothing to lose. In this third person game, you'll have make your way through each level, shooting out in gun fights and collecting items as you go. Sound familiar? Well, that's not all what Max Payne is about, the game's main feature is fantastic and unique...
"Bullet Time" as it is known in Max Payne. In action movies, you'll always get sequences where the action is in slow-mo, to make the scene more dramatic. In Max Payne, a simple click of the right mouse button (providing you have enough Bullet Time, which is collected by shooting enemies) will slow the action right down, and apart from looking imp...
THE GOOD: Bullet Time, Graphics, Gripping Storyline
THE BAD: New York Minute Too Hard?
SUMMARY: This game was awesome and it was definitely worth the wait. Bullet Time is a revolutionary aspect in gaming and will change shooters forever. The storyline is very well written out and it's pretty gripping. The way some parts are layed out with the comic strip type of story was really awesome.
There is an amazing array of guns in the game and the next level guns are pretty well spread out. Guns range from a pistol to a sawed off shotgun to a pair a high powered uzis.
The graphics in the game are really well done and lots of stuff is interactive. Only 2 levels are annoying and those are the levels where you have to follow the blood path and it's really annoying and confusing.
THE GOOD: Gritty graphic novel storyline, realistic weapons, bullet time, cool bullet hits.
THE BAD: Too freakin short! Ending could have been better (Probably good for a sequel though).
SUMMARY: Finished the game in 6 hours flat. At "Fugitive" level the game was really quite easy. The game is about an NYPD cop, Max Payne, whose wife and child were murdered by a bunch of junkies high on a designer drug called Valkyr. Max kinda loses it and after going undercover for 3 years finally gets a break in his investigation and goes on a Chow Yun Fatt style suicidal bloodbath to bring down the bad guys. In the course of the carnage he unearths information leading to the highest corridors of power as the name of the Aesir Corporation rises to the murky, blood stained surface.
Hardly original right? But the grittiness, harshness and realism of the presentation greatly appealed to me. It kind of gives you a perspective on what happens to a man when he's pushed to the max and hasn't anything left to l...
