Civilization III is like it says, the third game in Sid Meier's great series Civilization. Civilization III is a turn based strategy game that allows you to take control of your own civilization and develop it over time to be the strongest civilization in the world. However doing this will not be easy as rival civilizations have the same goals in mind. This is where the fun begins...

There is no actual story in place here (wait till you get Conquests expansion) because you make the story basically with the civilization you control and there are many at your disposal. Each civilization you can pick from has it's own special strengths and unique units so you'll have to experiment in order to find your favorite to control.

When comparing Civ III to Civ II there are several differences both good and bad. Graphics wise Civ III improves greatly from Civ II with new 3D graphics sure to please. Some other things have changed like forming armies, after one of your ground units...

THE GOOD:
Deep gameplay, multi tiered diplomacy, strategy is a must

THE BAD:
Hours spent dreaming, thinking, and planning away from the game

SUMMARY:
I bought CivIII before any of the expansions. I played the game to death. I couldn't put it down. Night after night I would decide at 1am to play one more turn and then look up at the clock again at 3 and say the same thing. The game is addictive. It is not for everyone though. People who are in to instant gratification should look elsewhere. However; for those who want something deeper in a game, and wish to be rewarded for good stretegy, CIVIII is the perfect game.

Anyway I got away from CIV for a while and got back into the world of MMORPGs. My wife bought me the PTW expansion as a gift recently. And since then it is CIV every night.

I'd like to quickly mention that one of the biggest complaints on this game is the time for the computer to finish. This can be shortened by 85% if...

THE GOOD:
Improved graphics, more players, conquer using culture, all improvements

THE BAD:
NO FUNDAMENTALISM! CPU players take so darn long to complete a turn, not to mention it's difficulty became way more steep from Civ 2. No scenarios. Not for everyone.

SUMMARY:
I have played a lot of games, and a lot of them were good, and had good sequels. While Civ 2 was a top-of-the-chart game, Civ3 is weaker despite improved graphics and new ideas. For one thing, where's fundamentalism? The best government of Civ2 isn't on it at all. You know, the one that gives you lots of $$$$. Another thing, it's a lot modre difficult than civ2. The opponents will be tough on you, and will continuously send units during war. You will also have some time on your hands while waiting for your opponents to finish their turn. I did like the new units, but the whole resource thing gets a little annoying. I also like the ability to conquer cities culturally. With no...

THE GOOD:
Interesting theme..not just a fighting game and a teeny bit educational

THE BAD:
FREAKIN HARD !!!!!!

SUMMARY:
Civilisation 3.. mostly I'm a fan of RPG's like RA 2 and racing games like Midtown Madness 2 but for once I picked something different off the shelves.
Although, it did indeed take me some time to get the hang of it..it is surely not a game which you can just breeze through. With varying civilisations like the Aztecs, India, Egypt, Greece, Germany, etc it provides intriguing and fascinating gameplay. But oh boy, of you're lookin' for something that'll give u slack..i'm sorry but this is just not it.
Once the other civilisations started warring against each other..i have some advice..don't make any Mutual Protection Pacts..it will drag you into wars..and stagnate your economy. Just because you are not being dragged into wars doesn't mean you should relax you military spending..because once the stronger civilisations...

THE GOOD:
This game is extremly fun and somewhat educational. I like how you can be a lot of civilizations. These vary from America to the Aztecs to the Germans. You can also have war with people and to get upgrades you have to wait turns to get it. There are also no cheats expect for one that reveals the map. If you are a patient person this game it for you. The graphics are also extremely good and has good detailed land. Also there is a map edit so you can edit maps to make it easier or you can create your own map.

THE BAD:
The bad like I said is that it is a really long game. It also takes a while to understand. You may get frusterated because it takes hours and hours and hours and hours to finish a game. And when you do finish you might be ranked as Xerxes the Pathetic, or Bismark the Hopeless. But, all I can say it keep playing and you might get a good ranking.

SUMMARY:
You might think that this game would be really boring if it's...

THE GOOD:
-Better millitary units
-Many more things to do
-Lots of different outcomes

SUMMARY:
Overall, much better than Civ2. They took out the cheat list, which was great, becuase you cant really respect a game which encourages you to cheat. There are many more outcomes to the game giving it a more realistic feel, and your adversaries are a lot smarter.

But on the bad side it gets old. You can only play it all the way through 2 or 3 times before the whole routine becomes..well..routine.

THE GOOD:
Well I like the total control peace making and deals technology all that is perfect I like the unit system it isnt like any other things and the taxes making this game fun stuff.

THE BAD:
Games will take hours too finish and the fact that they include countrys like persia but not Canada.

SUMMARY:
Well I think this game is perfect its much better than any RTS even Empire Earth and I think that Civ 3 is the best TBS game so Id say civ 3 is the best strategy game ever. (until civ 4 that is)

Excellent game. Hours just melt away. If the computer opponents executed faster, it would be perfect.
